Board Recruitment: Waco is a small urban city with limited
businesses – it was important to be creative and think outside the box when creating an Advisory Board.
Began with three career academies- Engineering, Business & Finance, and Information Technology. Targeted businesses that supported these
academies and invited them to meet concerning the school and assisting with its growth.

Board Recruitment (cont’d) Explained the NAF Advisory Board Model and
opened it up for guests to give feedback on what we could do to get a Board started.
Positive feedback and core group got under way in creating the beginning of the Advisory Board as we know it.
As academies were brought on, businesses were targeted to be invited to join.

Board Retention: Key to retention is having members be a part
of the committee structure which allows them to feel that they are contributing to the Board’s goals.
Provide opportunities for members to assist in planning and supporting activities; especially fundraising
