What is Advent?

Advent is a special time of waiting for Catholics. It is also a time to get ready for the birth of Jesus. Advent starts on Sunday 29th November and ends on Christmas Eve.

How do Catholics prepare for Advent?

Catholics prepare for Advent in different ways. One way they prepare is by praying to God to help them become better people. They also put on fun Christmas plays. Many people buy presents and make food for their family to share.

What is an Advent wreath?

Catholics often make Advent Wreaths. The wreath is a circle to show that God’s love goes on and on. It is green to show new hope. The Advent wreath has five candles. Four are for the four Sundays of Advent. One is for Christmas day.Three are purple for hope, peace and love. One is pink for joy. One is white which is lit to celebrate the birth of Jesus. The flame reminds Catholics that he is the light of the world.
