Our mission is to provide veterinary

services to pets and their people

in rural Alaskan villages:

▪ Spay-neuter surgery

▪ Rabies and core vaccines

▪ Deworming

▪ Wellness exams

▪ Nail trims and basic care

▪ Humane euthanasia

▪ Education

ARVO is grateful to have the endorsement of:

• Dr. Robert Gerlach, State Veterinarian

• The Alaska State Veterinary Medical

Association

• The Interior Veterinary Medical Association

• A growing number of private veterinarians

• Many other Alaska animal

welfare groups

4

The problem?

…too many puppies,

not enough homes …

5

The consequences?

1. Too many hungry strays

2. The highest rate of dog bites IN THE NATION

3. The spread of parasite infestation and disease

> to humans, especially children

> to owned pets

> to wildlife

4. Difficult and unpleasant means to control the

overpopulation of unwanted pets

5. Lack of education about responsible animal care

6. Lack of resources to help pet owners

6

The Solution?

Veterinary care.

7

What has ARVO done so far?

From Oct 2012 thru 2014

we have conducted 10 clinics

276 Pets rec’d spay/neuter surgery

239 Pets rec’d non-surgical services

515 Total rural pets helped

We are proud, but there is much more

to do. There are more than 200 rural

villages that need help.

8

Where do we go?

ARVO travels to rural villages

located off the road system that

have no veterinary care.

So far, we have conducted clinics in:

Kokhanok Nondalton

Tyonek Galena

Nome St. Mary’s

Dillingham (2) Togiak

Iliamna-Newhalen

9

How much do clinics cost? Costs vary widely, depending on caseload, size

of the medical team, cost of drugs, and transportation.

Usually $2500 to $5000 per clinic.

Where does our revenue come from?

Donations

Small grants

Fees paid by pet owners

Discounts from local businesses

10

Where are we going in 2015?

Our preliminary plans include:

Aniak Iliamna-Newhalen

Dillingham Kokhanok

Nome

Nondalton

Other villages have inquired, and will be scheduled

if resources permit.
