Pour sa 10ème Edition, le Music Chapel Festival à Flagey rend hommage à Eugène Ysaÿe, artiste extraordinaire qui a inspiré le projet de la Chapelle Musicale auprès de la Reine Elisabeth. Du 4 au 7 décembre, le festival illustre les différentes facettes de cette personnalité surnommée The King of violin, à la fois virtuose, pédagogue, chef et compositeur. Eugène Ysaÿe fut une célébrité musicale de son vivant, avec à son actif des centaines de concerts en Europe et de nombreuses tournées en Russie et aux Etats-Unis, témoignant d’un succès phénoménal. Aujourd’hui, il est une figure emblématique de l’école franco-belge du violon et a inspiré plusieurs générations de violonistes à travers le monde.

En dignes héritiers de cette école francobelge du violon, Joshua Bell, Renaud Capuçon, Augustin Dumay, Lorenzo Gatto ou encore Yossif Ivanov seront à l’affiche de ce festival, accompagnés par l’ensemble Métamorphoses, l’Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège et le Brussels Philharmonic dans une nouvelle coproduction avec la Chapelle Musicale.

Du côté off, le festival propose de nombreuses rencontres et live talks autour d’Eugène Ysaÿe : sa vie, avec Marie Cornaz, ses oeuvres, avec Xavier Falques, et son environnement esthétique, sa rencontre avec la Reine Elisabeth, racontée par Michel Stockhem. C’est aussi l’occasion de visionner en avant-première le film documentaire sur Eugène Ysaÿe à travers les yeux de son arrière-petit-fils, Marc Ysaÿe, célèbre rockeur de la scène belge. Le salon d’Eugène réunit quant à lui les jeunes artistes de façon informelle autour d’un verre et d’un piano, pour des soirées musicales détendues, comme à l’époque d’Ysaÿe.

Voor de 10e editie van het Music Chapel Festival in Flagey staat Eugène Ysaÿe centraal, een uitzonderlijk artiest, die het project van de Muziekkapel bij koningin Elisabeth heeft geïnitieerd. Van 4 tot 7 december toont het festival de diverse facetten van deze figuur die ook wel ‘The King of Violin’ werd genoemd, zowel een virtuoos, pedagoog, dirigent als componist. Eugène Ysaÿe was bij leven reeds een muzikale beroemdheid, met een honderdtal concerten in Europa en vele tournees in Rusland en in de Verenigde Staten op zijn palmares, die regelrechte successen waren. Vandaag is hij een emblematisch figuur uit de Frans-Belgische vioolschool en heeft hij meerdere generaties violisten wereldwijd geïnspireerd.

Als waardige erfgenamen van deze Frans-Belgische vioolschool treden Joshua Bell, Renaud Capuçon, Augustin Dumay, Lorenzo Gatto en Yossif Ivanov in dit festival op, vergezeld door het ensemble Les Métamorphoses, het Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège en het Brussels Philharmonic Orkest in een nieuwe coproductie met de Muziekkapel.

Wat de randprogrammering betreft, organiseert het festival talrijke ontmoetingen en live talks rond Eugène Ysaÿe: zijn leven, met Marie Cornaz, zijn werk, met Xavier Falques, en zijn esthetische omgeving, zijn ontmoeting met koningin Elisabeth, verteld door Michel Stockhem. Ook wordt er in avant-première de documentairefilm getoond over Eugène Ysaÿe, door de bril van zijn achterkleinzoon, Marc Ysaÿe, een beroemde rocker van de Belgische scene. En in het salon d’Eugène komen de jonge artiesten op informele wijze samen rond een glas en de piano, voor ontspannen muzikale avonden, zoals in de tijd van Ysaÿe.
