A Step by Step Illustrated Tutorial to create a Curriculum Page using Netscape Composer.

Launch Netscape Communicator which contains Netscape Composer.

At Netscape Communicator click on the Communicator command at the top of screen.

At the drop down menu, click on Composer.

Netscape Composer is a web editor which is similar to a word processor.

Press Enter once to be on the 2th line and type the words seen below.

Press Enter twice to be on the 4th line. Type the words below. Press Enter after each line.

Press Enter twice to be on the 11th line. Type the words below. Press Enter after each line.

After typing all of the words below & check spelling then Click & Drag to select all words.

With all words selected, click the Format command at the top of the screen.

On the drop down menu, click Align then click Center.

All highlighted words, should still be selected and centered on the screen.

Click anywhere in the white region to deselect the highlighted words.

Click and Drag to highlight or select the word Google.

At the top of the screen, click on the icon with the word Link below it.

These URLs or Web Addresses will be needed.

Microsoft Network http:// www.msn.com

Netscape Network http://www.netscape.com

AOL Anywhere http://search.aol.com

The Link widow will appear. Type the URL for Google in the long small rectangular box.

After typing the URL or web address for Google in the Link window then press Apply button.

Notice the URL or web address for Google is selected. Now click the Close button.

Now click anywhere in the white region to deselect the word Google..

Now continue to create hyperlinks of the other search engines using

the same procedure as described and illustrated in the previous slides.

Below is the step by step procedure to create search engine hyperlinks.

1. Click & Drag a search engine to highlight or select it.

2. Click the icon at the top of the screen with the Link below it.

3. When the Link window appears type the URL for the search engine.

4. After typing the web address for the search engine, click Apply.

5. After clicking Apply, notice the URL is selected then click Close.

6. After clicking Close, click anywhere in the white region to deselect.

7. Now proceed to create hyperlinks, of the other search engines.

Now that all of the search engines have become hyperlinks. Proceed to next slide.

Now Click & Drag to highlight or select all of the title and instructions.

We are going to increase the size of these words. Click on the small black arrow next 12.

Click on the size 14 then 14 should appear in the small window and words increase.

Click on the small black arrow next to Black. Click on RED second column third down.

Notice Red is in the small square instead of Black. Click anywhere in white to deselect.

Hey, so far everything should look great and just as it appears below.

Now to apply a background color. Click on Format and a drop down menu appears.

At the bottom of the Drop Down Menu, is Page Colors and Properties. Click this Option…

At the Page Properties window, click on the small white rectangle in front of Background.

A color palette should appear. In the third column & fourth down is yellow, click it.

Yellow should appear in the small rectangle and big rectangle in the window.

Now click on the Apply button at the bottom and click on the OK button at the bottom.

Yahoo! The search engines are Linked, the words are Red, and the background is Yellow.

Now to save this simple but powerful Curriculum Page. Click on File at top of screen.

Click on Save As… Save As…allows a user to determine where the file is to be saved.

When the Save As… window appears make sure it has Desktop at the top of it.

Enter an appropriate file name for the Curriculum Page. A suggested name is secp.

After entering an appropriate name or “secp”. Click on the Save button. Bottom left.

Close Netscape Composer and Netscape Communicator by using X top right.

On Desktop should appear a small icon with a file name on it and Netscape.

Double click it and it should launch itself by finding Netscape Communicator.

It should appear and you should be able to check your “external” hyperlinks.

This simple but powerful web page can be sent to via Email or posted on WWW.

but should on be the beginning to creating of many

other beneficial curriculum pages for your students.
