A.  This campaign hopes to: •  Identify the root causes of violence

•  Increase Awareness about every form of violence

•  Build a culture of love, respect and appreciation

between all men, women and children, communities and religions.

As we glance through the news in the media, we can notice an increase in the incidents of violence

among nations, in society – the shocking increase in violence against women has hit us all.

More alarmingly, we are witnessing a great increase in the magnitude of dysfunction and

violence within the family itself, the very basic unit of society.

IF WE WANT A STABLE SOCIETY

WE MUST BUILD STABLE FAMILIES

Pope John Paul II – “the future of humanity passes by way of the family”

“The  Family  is  the  building  block  of  society.  The  Family  is  an  in8mate  communion  of

love  and  life"      (Familiaris  Consor8o,17)

Jimmy is a small-built child, very shy and a bit slow to do things.

a situation?

× Paying back with interest – doubling the damage

× Walking away now – postponing your revenge

× Taking it out on your own family

23

Thought 1 : How Do I React ?

What do you think of ?

Can I choose the Non Violent Alternative?

- Assess the magnitude of the situation feel empowered to resolve the problem - Seek legal recourse where required - Seek medical recourse where required - Separate the person from the action

How Do We Help Each Other to Build Non-Violence? COMMUNICATION

My Faith and Non-Violence

Do we choose to see what our

CHRISTIAN faith says about this ?

or Do we choose to build and propagate

our own interpretations? 27

What does our faith tell us?

This is the Golden Rule of Conduct – mutual tolerance which gives us a key to a non-

violent existence.

The Fruits of Non-Violence

ü A Peaceful Mind ü Health of Mind , Body and

Spirit..

ü Role model for one’s society

ü A New Attitude & Culture – A NON-VIOLENT CULTURE

29

Teaching our children non-violent behaviour

builds a culture of non-violence for the next generation

PARENTS

Let us help our children see themselves as skilled problem solvers ...

Empower them with the ability to transform

conflicts into peaceful and gratifying situations.

Teach them what to say and do when

conflicts arise.

CHILDREN NEED TO BE CONVINCED THAT POSITIVE CONFLICT RESOLUTION IS POSSIBLE

My Commitment to Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.!

32

My Commitment to Peace !

O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; it is in dying that we are born again to eternal life.!

33

Be part of our campaign and create a
