What Am I Supposed to Learn from Joshua?

Joshua:“My plan is working when

you begin to hate your selfishness more than your

unhappiness.”

• Hoshea:• Yehoshua: (Numbers 13:16)

Joshua 1:8 “Do not let this book of the Law depart from your mouth, but meditate on it day and night that you may be careful to do everything written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success.

KEY WORD: CONQUEST

9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."

Joshua 11:23 So Joshua took the entire land, just as the LORD had directed Moses, and he gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal divisions. Then the land had rest from war.

1.Preparation to cross the Jordan (1-5)

KEY CHAPTER: JOSHUA 24

Joshua 3:14 So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant went ahead of them.

15 Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water's edge,

16 the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away,

at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (the Salt Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho.

17 The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.

Joshua 5:11 The day after the Passover, that very day, they ate some of the produce of the land: unleavened bread and roasted grain.

12 Manna stopped the day after they ate this food from the land; there was no longer any manna for the Israelites, but that year they ate of the produce of Canaan.

Isaiah 55:2 “Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.”

2.Conquest: taking the land (6-12)

•Central Canaan (6-8)

•Southern Canaan (9-10)

•Northern Canaan (11-12)

Joshua 6:2 The LORD said to Joshua, "See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men.

3 March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days.

4 Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams' horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets .

5 When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have all the people give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the people will go up, every man straight in."

Joshua 7:20 Achan replied, "It is true! I have sinned against the LORD, the God of Israel. This is what I have done:

21 When I saw in the plunder a beautiful robe from Babylonia, two hundred shekels of silver and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them.

They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, with the silver underneath."

We make an error when we

prefer blessings over battle.

Lessons:• Entering the land: Trust• Taking the land: Battle

3.Settlement of the land (13-24)

Joshua 24:14 "Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.

15 But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River,

or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."

1.Don’t mistake the Promised Land (any land) for heaven.

2.Don’t mistake outward enemies as your greatest enemies.

3.There is a call to fight the real battle.
