DIVERSITY PROGRAMS
Evidence based Diversity Management: Why diversity programs fail & what can we do about itKey events in 2016 have shown that advancing diversity and equality at work and society has become ever more urgent. Corporations seem well equipped for the task yet, equality isn’t improving. Glass ceilings haven’t been shattered and discrimination lawsuits continue to cost corporate leaders. The reason is simple: most diversity programs don’t increase diversity. My talk will show which diversity programs work to increase workforce diversity in good jobs in over 800 U.S. corporations, and which fail to do so and even harm diversity. I will describe common features of diversity programs and use social science to explain why they don’t work. I will also describe the features of successful programs. At the end of the talk the audience will have a clear and concise list of principles for building an effective diversity program.
