1. Read the verse.

2. Read the verse in context: read the preceding and following verses or whole chapter. Seehow it ties in to the verses before and after it.

3. Write out your verse. (in this box, leave plenty of space around it, between the lines andbetween the words.)

4. Personalize it:  replace words like “you”, “we”, “us”, “them” with your name.

5. Mark, circle, underline, highlight words and phrases that stand out to you. Any words makeyou want to dig deeper? Look up and define any words that need clarification.

6. Read the verse in other translations: note which words or phrases help you understand orapply the verse.

7. Cross‐reference the verse: find, list and read other verses which speak about the sametopic.

1. Fill in the word being studied.                 Look up the original Hebrew or Greek word.

2. Using a Dictionary or app, look up theword and notate a few of the definitionswhich apply to the words usage.

4. Compare the meaning o the English word with the original Hebrew or Greek word andtranslation. Notate any similarities or differences. (Always select a meaning for the Englishword which best matches the definition of the original Hebrew / Greek.)

5. Using a Thesaurus or app, look up the word and notate some of the synonyms and/orantonyms for the word. Circle the words which stand out. These may lead you to furtherinvestigation.

6. Using BibleHub.com or similar app, look up the designated scripture in parallel translations.Notate the word(s) other translations use in place of the specific word.

Repeat steps 2 and 4 if the different translations seen out of sync.

7. Look up cross‐referenced scriptures which include the same word or topic. Notate anysimilarities or differences.

3. Using a Hebrew / Greek Dictionary orapp, look up the word and notate thedefinition(s).
