You will need:1. Science comp book2. Pen or pencil

Claire Fagin, a distinguished nursing educator, scholar, dean, and leader, became the first woman interim president of the University of Pennsylvania (June 1993–July 1994) and the first female to achieve this position in any Ivy League university.

Here is what we are doing today:1. Earthquake shaker table opportunity

Community Service Opportunity!

• Would you like to make an earthquake shaker table to donate to the science department?

• Due the week of January 4th or sooner.

• If you are interested, please let me know. We only need one or two.

Goals

1. Review your goal for the first trimester. Did you meet your goals? Were you close?

2. What are your new goals for the 2nd trimester. One academic and one social.

Goals for the 2nd Trimester

1. My academic goal for science is….

I plan to achieve this by…..

2. My social goal is…..

Procedure

• Come in quietly and take your seat.

• Write down homework. Do the warm-up. Keep it out until we are ready to go over it.

• Be ready to start with all materials: your planner, a pen or pencil, and your comp book everyday!

Greenhouse Effect

Think about (without talking) a definition for the greenhouse effect.

Write down your definition.

Share with your partner and then combine your definition with a partner.

12/7 Greenhouse Effect p.

• Greenhouse gases ( examples are carbon dioxide and water vapor) trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere and prevent it from escaping to outer space.

Graph Analysis

1. How has the global temperature changed since 1880? By how many degrees has it changed?

2. How has carbon dioxide levels changed? When was there a sharp increase? What may have caused this?

3. What are the effects of these changes on sea level and snow cover?

4. What are other ways global warming will impact the earth and its inhabitants?

I wonder….

How the world’s climate could change over the next 100 years if humans do nothing to limit the levels of greenhouse gases. What effect would this have on humans?
