Welcome
e welcome you and thank you for your interest
in learning more about the Rosicrucian
tradition. Your reading of this booklet indicates diat
you have felt an urge from within, a special somethingthat drew you to the Rosicrucians. Perhaps you have
already explored the vast sea of metaphysicaJ and self-
help books, programs, lectures, and semináis, and
you may have found yourselí wondering how to make
sense of it all— how to put it all together in a way that
is practical and truly relevant to you.
You can acquire a lot of information from books, lectures, and classes, and you may even discover somevery useful techniques for improving certain aspectsof your life. Yet this approach to self improvement is
often incomplete, because most books, seminars, andstudy groups have a limited focus, such as personalprosperity, improving relationships, meditation, spiritual attunement, or developing psychic abílities. And focusing on one area oí study doesn’t providebalanced development.
The Rosicrucian system provides a foundation thatties together all of the different aspects of metaphysicalstudy, and demonstrates their interconnectedness. To our knowledge, its the only system that doesthis. Understanding the natural laws that govern allrealms— physical, mental, emotional, psychic, andspiritual— leads to true prosperity and peace of mind. This is exactly what the Rosicrucian system provides—an ancient and time-tested systematic approach to thestudy of higher wisdom that empowers you to findthe answers to your questions about the workings ofthe universe, the interconnectedness of all life, yourhigher purpose, and how it all fus together.
Much of the material found in the Rosicrucianteachings cannot be found anywhere else. If you’vealready spent many years studying metaphysics, you’U find that the Rosicrucian system organizes this
information in a comprehensive way and acts as aunique catalyst of skills and accomplishment. The
knowledge you’ve already acquired attains a higherdimensión of meaning when you can place it in the

context of a powerful whole. Further, this knowledgealso translares into increasingly focused, skillful action
and attainment in life.
If you’re completely new to this area of study, you'Il
find that this comprehensive approach makes your
learning easy. As yon progress step-by-step dirough the
Rosicrucian course of study, you'Il see how each subject
relates to ail die rest, giving you a sense of completenessand confidence in your understanding.
Through simple weekly lessons that you study
at home, you'Il have the opportunity to learn usefultechniques which you can use on a daily basis to
awaken your higher faculties, leading to improvedhealth, better life situations, more harmonious personalrelationships, and an increased sense of happiness and
peace. These goals can be achieved through a process
which Rosicrucian students cali self-m astei'y.
What exactly does self-mastery mean? It meanslearning how to chart your own course through
life— how to find the means to make the right
choices and decisions. It means seeing your presentcircumstances as unlimited opportunities for growth
because you do have the ability to change your
situation. It means being able to take charge of your
life and help those around you to achieve a happierand a healthier existence.
The Rosicrucian teachings are not based on the
ideas of any one individual. Unlike many New Age
movements, the Rosicrucian philosophy has beendeveloped over centuries from the combined efforts of
many great minds. Ancient truths are incorporated
into practical and time-tested techniques which you canbegin to ase immediately. The lessons are structured in a
sequential system to provide safe, gradual developmentof your natural psychic and spiritual abilities. This is a
school of practical mysticism which encourages you to
be open-minded, questioning, and to test the valué ofthe principies you are learning by actively using themin your daily life.
Benefits of Membership
THE SYSTEM OF STUDY
Each month you will receive a packet of weekly
lessons, called monograpbs, to read ¡n the privacy
of your own home. The lessons, about six to eight
pages each, introduce certain ideas and experiments
in a straightforward and simple manner. We ask diat
you devote about one and a half hours once a week to
study that week’s lesson and perform any exercise or
experiment given. For the remainder of the week
we encourage you to periodically think about the
important ideas contained in that lesson, and makerepeated eftorts at accomplishing the exercises. We ask
you for this simple commitment because the lessons
are not just a body of knowledge, they are a way
of life. If you only read them and don’t attempt the
experiments or practice the techniques, then you re only
learning theory, just as though you were only reading a
book on how to play the piano, without ever practicing.
It takes a special sort of dedication to quest for theknowledge of die Universe. It is essential that you test the
ideas and experiments, prove their validity to yourself,
and then incorporare them into your life. As you do
this, gradually mere theories will be replaced by real
knowledge, solid skills, increased confidence, peace of
mind, and an ability to successfully meet the experiences
of life and to create the kind oflife you want.
HOW IS THE INFORMATION STRUCTURED?
New students begin with a series of three introductorydegrees comprising an overview of the Rosicrucian
course of study. This is followed by nine additionaldegrees, each having its own particular emphasis.
For instance, the Fifth Degree deais primarily with
ancient philosophies, the Sixth with the health of
physical and psychic consciousness, and tht Sevenrhwith the aura and the projection of the psychic body.
The teachings are continuously updated to reHect ourmodern world, while keeping true to the Rosicruciantradition. Underlying this changing language and
formal is a code of natural law which forms the core of

the Rosicrucian teachings and which remains constant
over time.
PROGRESSION O F THE TEACHINGS
The Rosicrucian system does not promise instant
enlightenment. To complete our hasic program oflessons, from the introductory courses up through
the end of the Ninth Degree, takes approximatelyfive years. Although in five years you will have
achieved a high level of mastery of self, our teachings
continué past the Ninth Degree for many years, supplementing the hasic lessons and continuing to
stimulate further development.
The uniqueness of the Rosicrucian teachingsdoesn’t come simply from the body of knowledgeit offers, it also comes from the way it is organizedand brought to life through practical exercises and
experiments to produce a genuine evolution in
consciousness. Each degree covers an important step
you need in order to benefit from the next degree.
Each exercise supports, reinforces, and builds upon
the preceding exercises and techniques, leading tobalanced, full development.
The Three Elements of
Rosicrucian Membership
As a Rosicrucian student you are not simply
purchasing a course of study. In fact, we do notsell the Rosicrucian lessons at any price. In the
true tradition of the ancient mystery schools, the
teachings were never sold, but were extended tosincere students. In keeping with this tradition,
the Rosicrucian teachings are made available tostudents as a benefit of their active membership.
Your membership dues support all aspects of the
organization’s activities, not just the lessons. The diree main elements of Rosicrucian membership
are the system of home study lessons, the Rosicrucianiniriatic tradition, and the local activities of Rosicruciangroups. Additional benefits of membership are describedlater in this booklet.
ROSICRUCIAN HOME STUD Y LESSONS
The Rosicrucian teachings are presented in booklets
called monographs, and the lessons are divided into
two main sections, the Neophyte Section and the
Temple Section.
Neophyte Section
Right from the start, the introductory monographs
present Rosicrucian concepts that you can apply in
practical ways. One of the first things you learn as a
Neophyte is that you are a dual being. In addition
to your five physical senses, you also have a psychic
sense. Exercises in these introductory lessons are
designed to gradually awaken and develop the psychicfaculty. Exercises presented here and throughout theentire Rosicrucian system allow you to discover
for yourself through direct experience how theseprincipies work.
Temple Section
Having completed the lessons of the Neophyte
Section (this takes approximately 15 months), youstand at an important milestone in your progress
along the mystical path. No longer a Neophyte,
you are now ready to leave the Atrium and enter
the Temple. Your studies in the Neophyte Section
have established the foundation for the lessons of
the Temple degrees. You have been introduced to
the various elements of the Rosicrucian system
and had the opportunity to practice many of theprincipies presented through simple experiments.
The Temple degrees will further develop rhese
elements, providing additional depth and practical
applications of the principies.
The Rosicrucian tradition is not just a course of
study; it is a way of life. While the essential Rosicrucian
teachings are covered in the first five years, the
exploration of universal laws is truly a lifelong study. Aslong as we live, we never stop learning. Therefore, the
Rosicrucian lessons continué for many years, providing
you with even greater insights and exploration of the
Rosicrucian principies and techniques.

THE INITIATIC TRA DITION
As a Rosicrucian student, you are not just taking
a course of study. You are passing through degrees
of study, rituals, ceremonies, exercises, and demonstrations
that have a long historical background with new
information constantly being added.Rosicrucian initiations are rituals designed to mark
the milestones of a students progress on the mysticalpath. In these beautiful rituals, mystical laws and
principies are demonstrated in dramatic form, in order
to both inform and inspire the Rosicrucian student.
All the degrees of Rosicrucian study are preceded
by an initiation ceremony, written in an impressive
and brief form that can easily be performed at home
during your study period. You also have the option
of receiving these initiations in a more elabórate
form in affiliated Lodges if you like. You 11 find thatthese initiations, when conferred in the Temple of a
Rosicrucian Lodge with all officers participating, are
even more impressive to the psyche. Both the home
ceremonies and the Lodge initiations are specially
prepared to introduce to you in an impressive, symbolic, and dramatic way the importance of each
new degree into which you are entering.
ROSICRUCIAN GROUPS
The Rosicrucians maintain a sysrem of local
Rosicrucian groups to supplement the home study
program. As a Rosicrucian student, you have theoption and privilege of attending an affiliated Lodge,
Chapter, Pronaos, or Atrium Group if there is one inyour area. Here you can enjoy the company of other
Rosicrucians, hear inspiring lectures, engage in mysticalexperiments widi odier students, and particípate in
beautiful ceremonies and stimulating discussions. Inaddition, you’ll have the opportunity to attend a
variety of special events, seminars, and conventions.Rosicrucian members are not obligated to associate
with a local Rosicrucian group. This is a special privilegeoffered to you, and provides an unique opportunity toenrich your membership experience.
Many local groups offer regular open meetings, where members of the public can attend a brief
lecture and meet Rosicrucian students in an informal
setting. To find out if open meetings are offered in

Our Traditional and
Chronological History
The Rosicrucian Order is known internarionally by
its traditional and authentic title, Ancient Mystical
Order Rosae Crucis, from which is derived theacronym “AMORC.” This Latin form of the
organizations ñame Iiterally translates into AncientMystical Order of the Rosy Cross. There is no religious
connotation associated with this symbol; the Rosy Crosssymbol predates Christianity. The cross symbolically
represents the human body and the rose represents the
individuáis unfolding consciousness. Together, the rose
and cross represent the experiences and challenges ofa thoughtful life well lived. Tlius, by our ñame andsymbol we represent the ancient Rosicrucians, perpetuating
the true traditions of Rosicrucian movements fromcenturies past to the present day.
The history of the Rosicrucians may be divided
into two general classifications: traditional andchronological. The traditional history consists of
mystical allegories and fascinadng legends that have
been passed down for centuries by word of mouth. The Rosicrucian chronological accounts are based 011
specific dates and verifiable facts.
