INAUGURAL TRANSPLANT ANGEL AWARDS

TRANSPLANT GAMES OF AMERICA: HOUSTON

The Transplant Games of America was an important event for the American Transplant Foundation. We engaged athletes and supporters with our presentation entitled “Being a Transplant Champion in Your Community” and recruited mentors and mentees from 26 states!

The American Transplant Foundation’s inaugural Transplant Angel Awards took place at the 2014 Transplant Games of America in Houston. The Transplant Angel Awards honor outstanding professionals in the field of transplant, and nominations and voting were done through Facebook. Four winners were chosen: Susanne Hollister, Social Worker at the Uni-versity of Minnesota Medical Center, Ray Gabel, Community and Professional Education Coordinator at St. Luke’s Hospital, Carmen Nolan, Living Donor Coordinator/Advocate at the University of Texas at San Antonio, and Christine Fricke, Financial Coordinator at the University of Michigan.

Thank you Novartis for sponsoring the Transplant Angel Awards!

OUR MISSIONTo save lives by reducing the growing list of women, men, and children who are waiting for a transplant.

WE BELIEVEThat maximizing living organ donation is the most effective way to fulfill our mission.

THE NEEDToday, more than 123,000 people are waiting for an organ transplant that can come from a living donor. In 2014, 4,177 people died before receiving an organ that could have come from a living person─4,117 deaths that were utterly preventable.

THREE TIERS OF SUPPORTWe proactively reduce the transplant waiting list by enabling living donation through EDUCATIONAL, FINANCIAL, and EMOTIONAL SUPPORT.

LET’S DO EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER TO SAVE THE LIVES OF THE 123,000 AMERICANS

AWAITING A LIFESAVING TRANSPLANT

In 45 states and counting, we create opportunities for people to become living donors.

MENTORSHIP PROGRAM MAP

Testimonials

“My mentor is doing a great job by providing feed-back when I don’t feel very optimistic about the whole transplant process. She told me her story and I have faith because of her.”-Schannon, a kidney recipient mentee

“The support I received for my [search party] event was amazing. I’m so grateful for this Foundation. I too would love to support ATF any way I can.”- Michelle, a kidney recipient mentee

“Having her as my mentor really made a huge difference. It made [living donation] that much more of a viable thing for me to do. I think it’s a great service that you provide.”-Bev, an altruistic living donor mentee, now an active mentor

Within its first nine months, the 1+1=LIFE Mentorship Program spread to 26 states!

1+1=LIFE MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

In April 2014, the Foundation launched its pilot 1+1=LIFE Mentorship Program. The Program’s first nine months were a success, resulting in 5 successful transplants around the country. Two mentees received kidneys, and three mentees donated kidneys to complete strangers! 12 mentees in need of transplants had at least one potential living donor begin testing.

The American Transplant Foundation was a lifesaver for me. I really ap-preciated the help because I didn’t know what else to do. I did a lot of calling and searching the web, and I couldn’t find any help. Thank you to the Foundation for helping to save my kidney.-Idelua, Kidney Transplant Recipient

Thanks to your financial assistance, my sister Brooskey is no longer on dialysis after living with kidney disease for many years. Because of your grant, my husband and I did not have to worry about expenses throughout my recovery course from surgery.-Argette, Living Kidney Donor

This organization came to my rescue with such kindness and compas-sion as well as quickness. They saved my children and I from losing the only true home that my children have ever known. Without their help I do not know what I would or could have done. I have found very few organizations that actually help donors.-Lisa, Living Kidney Donor
