The main recognizable difference for non native speakers is the /r/ sound. In British English the final /r/ sound is mispronounced however in American English you can recognize it clearly.

It is said that Bt. English is more “polite” than Am. English this is because Bt. English hasn’t had many changes and it’s considered “pure English”.
