Dear Fellow Alumni:

Homecoming 2015 saw approximately

350 people at the luncheon, and 165 in

attendance at the dinner/dance. For the

first time in many years, our Homecom-

ing luncheon and tent meeting were

held on the Library grounds. Class re-

unions were held for the classes of 1955,

1965, 1970, 1975, 1980, and 1985.

There was also good attendance from

alumni from the 50’s, 60’s 70’s and 80’s.

Homecoming for 2016 will be held on

Saturday, October 8 coinciding with

the annual Columbus Day weekend.

The location for the picnic luncheon will

be on the grounds of the Rutherford

Parks Library and our dinner/dance will

be at the Lebanon Country Club.

Currently, in addition to the $100,000 in

the investment account, we have a bal-

ance of $1,857.79 in regular checking,

$54,197.65 in the Library account, and

$30,434.77 in the LTA account. In July,

we will be funding five scholarships for

$1,500 each for a total of $7,500.

As of the end of April 2016, we have re-

ceived donations of $24,514 for the gen-

eral fund and $45,153 for the library

fund. A total of 399 donors contributed

to the fundraisers. These figures are

from the beginning of our June 2015

fundraiser through April 28 of this year

and includes scholarship contributions.

This year we had three scholarships

funded by individual donations. We are

very appreciative of the generosity of

these contributors. If anyone is interest-

ed in funding a full scholarship in honor

or in memory of a classmate or anyone

else, please contact me at 615/451-0468

or email me at [email protected].

The Scholarship Selection Committee,

chaired by Carleton Thackston ‘67, com-

pleted the selection of this year’s 5 recipi-

ents for the $1,500 scholarships. We have

now completed the 16th year of the Alumni

scholarship program. The list of this year’s

recipients are on page 3.

The endowed J.B. Leftwich CHMA Editors’

Scholarship at Cumberland University (in

its 5th year) was awarded for the second

year in a row to Elizabeth Marie Jones for

the academic year of 2015 - 2016 in the

amount of $1,000.

For this year’s Homecoming, plans are being made for

reunions for the classes of 1956, 1961, 1966, l971, 1976,

1981, and 1986. Jerry Anderson is working on getting

his 1956 class members together for a 60 year

reunion. Gabe Ayala and Larry Suciu do not have any

formal plans for the 55 year reunion for the Class of

1961, however, more information from them will be in

the August newsletter. Richard Hosier will be contact-

ing the members of the Class of 1966 about their 50

year reunion. Charles LeMaire is working on the 45

year reunion for the Class of 1971. At the present time,

we do not have information on who may be planning a

40 year reunion for the Class of 1976, or the 35 year

reunion for the Class of 1981. Joe Evins will coordinate

the 30 year reunion for the Class of 1986. Please call

us at 615/451-0468 or email me at [email protected]

if you need information on your class members. We will

be happy to provide you with a roster of names,

addresses, phone numbers, and email.

Our next Board of Directors meeting will be on

Saturday, July 16, at the Ingram Alumni House, start-

ing at 11 a.m.

Currently, work is continuing on the Library to include

the completion of an ADA restroom, janitor’s closet, and

an archives room. This will be at the rear of the

Library where many of you may remember there was a

second story landing that housed books and periodicals.

At our January 2016 Board of Directors meeting, a

Museum Committee chaired by Ken Hall ’71 was

formed to better coordinate continuing work on the

Library. Tom Clemmons ‘75 and Chuck Lowe ‘74 have

been most helpful in coordinating all of the work that is

currently underway. We continue to encourage contri-

butions toward the renovation and improvements on

the Library to make the building the CHMA Archives

and Museum.

Please be sure to reserve the weekend of

Saturday, October 8, for the 2016 Homecoming.

We hope to see many of you back for Homecoming this

year. We have been fortunate over the years to have

good turnouts from both individual class reunions as

well as others who return to campus on a regular basis.

Speaking for the Board of Directors, I want to sincerely

thank all of you for your continued support of the

Alumni Association and the preservation of the history

of Castle Heights.

Best Regards,

Rob Hosier ‘63
