MESSAGE

I am so happy to be communicating with you all from my new position as President of the Alumni Association. Regardless of when you graduated from the University Of Utah College Of

Pharmacy, you are the recipient of a degree that sets you apart from many other pharmacists. The University of Utah has been known for many years as a leader in pharmacy education. If you are not aware of the work done by the Alumni Association, I would like to challenge you to become more involved. The Alumni Association exists to support the academic mission of the College, provide scholarship support for students as well as educational support for practitioners.

We try to introduce a bit of recreation into the mix from time to time as well, as represented by the annual College of Pharmacy Alumni Golf Tournament and the upcoming Shakespeare and CE opportunity in Cedar City. These are opportunities to network, learn and have fun. The golf tournament, even with some challenges presented by Mother Nature, was a great opportunity to see old friends and colleagues and enjoy the company of other pharmacists. The only problem we are encountering is getting enough of you to join in the fun! I challenged those who attended the tournament to make an earnest plan to invite one team per person to join the tournament next year. Our goal will be to fill out the participant list to 36 teams next year. Please, if the mid-week schedule makes it impossible for you to attend, or if you have other suggestions that would make your participation easier, please let me know. We would like to accommodate the majority of those interested in supporting the event.

And you still have time to sign up for the Shakespeare and CE. There will be a couple of great educational offerings by experts in their fields, Abby Atherton and Dave Young. I hope to see you all there. Registration is available on-line now!

There are a lot of Alumni out there. The College has been educating the highest caliber pharmacists for many years. Please make this the year that you get involved, and participate in giving back to the institution that made your professional life possible! I look forward to seeing and hearing from many of you in the near future!

Annual Golf Tournament A Great Success

The Alumni Association Annual Golf Tournament was held at Stonebridge Golf Club on Tuesday, June 5th. The tournament was a success despite Mother Nature and

her awesome winds and temperature drop midday. Forty-three golfers participated in the tournament. The course was challenging particularly after the winds picked up. A continental breakfast was served during registration and then a great luncheon was provided for the awards part of the tournament. Tina Aramaki, Alumni President, was Master of Ceremonies for the Awards.

The first place team winner, with a score of 58, included Jason Dunn, Paul Dunn, Dave Bjornn and Ron Andrus. The second place team winner, with a score of 59, included Jeff Gatzemeier, Jameson Rice, Tyler Faux and Cruz Edgington. Congratulations to both teams!! The longest drive winner was Travis Snow and the closest to the hole was Darrell Clarke. Congratulations to both of you.

The raffle prizes continue to be great! There was a golf bag won by Mark Munger, Jeff Lewis won the Odyssey putter and Tina Aramaki won the Titleist pitching wedge.

Plan on attending next year for a great round of golf, camaraderie, good food and great prizes! Watch the Alumni Association Website for date and details.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

13 Alumni Newsletter March 2012 www.pharmacy.utah.edu

Only You Can Help Us! For those alums who graduated in the last five years, the College needs your help. By now, you should have received an email for an AACP survey. Usually, this survey is used internally to make changes to the PharmD program or help the alumni association in their endeavors, but this year, it will be used for the College’s accreditation. This accreditation process essentially keeps us a school of pharmacy or not, so your

input is very important. The AACP alumni survey should take around 20 minutes and will remain completely anonymous. We encourage your honest feedback, whether good or bad so that we can improve our PharmD

program and our services to you. Thank you in advance for you participation. If you have any questions, please contact Meagan Rockne ([email protected] or 801-581-7046).
