What is the difference between Spider Veins and Varicose Veins?Surface veins including spider veins are smaller

versions of varicose veins. Although surface veins are

part of the same network of varicose veins, these

are smaller branches of the network of veins that are

visible on the surface of the skin. You’re more likely

to have spider veins and underlying varicose veins

if other members of your family have had them.

Standing or sitting for long periods of time, age,

trauma or pregnancy makes you more susceptible.

How do I know if I have Varicose Veins?Varicose veins are symptomatic, including the

underlying venous insufficiency. Varicose veins

may present as spider veins, bulging veins, edema

(swelling), hyperpigmentation (discoloration), ulcers,

or they may not be visible at all.

How do you treat Spider Veins?We have many tools available and one of our

Board Certified Providers will see you to determine

which would be ideal for your individual needs.

Frequently we use a combination of tools since

surface veins come in different shapes and sizes

and they have variable sources. Typically we like

to identify the source either using ultrasound or a

special light that allows us to see deeper into the

skin. By nailing down the source, we can get you

better, long term relief in fewer sessions.

How many treatments will I need?One of our Board Certified Providers will see you

and make the determination. Typically more than

one session is required and will depend on your

individual condition and also your expectations.

Treatment of spider veins is considered cosmetic,

hence cannot be billed to insurance.
