Maintaining the highest standards of patient safety is a constant issue for all healthcare providers, none more so than the issues relating to any situations that call upon the need for a blood transfusion and the clinical management of blood products.
A key factor for patient safety within blood transfusion is the integrity of the blood stock supply, from entering blood stock refrigerators to patient bedsides, with the duty of care lying with the healthcare provider. The biggest contributor to errors in blood transfusions have been linked to human factors withdrawing the wrong blood from the refrigerators and not maintaining up to date patient observations records, and this is why Blood360 has been developed.
Blood360 - developed in consultation with healthcare professionals for healthcare professionals. The Blood360 system deals with the fundamental requirements of blood tracking and guarantees the integrity and security of clinical blood products entering a healthcare provider’s premise.
Right Blood, Right Patient.Blood360 is a truly unique blood tracking system. At its core is a fully secure access and computerised audit, reporting and stock management solution - allowing for cross-matched issue, remote issue,
tailored reporting and auditing through to bedside transfusion management, patient observations monitoring and reporting with real time alerting and communication.
Blood360 consists of a central server application (Hub) allowing for full communication between laboratories, devices and ward staff. Supplemented by next generation Blood360 kiosks providing controlled access to blood stock & issue refrigerators and agitators and the latest in healthcare standard PDA’s* with barcode scanners extending patient safety to the bedside.
But Blood360 is more.Blood360 gives you the ability to build your own blood tracking solution to suit your needs with Blood360’s numerous modules and application solutions - a truly configurable solution to meet your needs.

Using the Blood360 Kiosk to control access to blood fridges, Blood360 has been developed with intuitive usability in mind and as such the system process is easy to follow with visual prompting at every stage - it really is as simple as using a kiosk at the supermarket!
You can determine how the kiosks are accessed. Blood360 is fully compatible with Barcode & PIN Access Cards or with ‘Anti-Card Swap’ technologies such as Biometric fingerprint technology as well as NHS SMART cards, CHIP & PIN cards and Active Directory Single-Sign-On Hospital wide systems.
The kiosk and Bedside PDA’s talk in real time to the server based application (Hub) ensuring end to end blood tracking integrity. The system also knows how long the blood products have been out of the
refrigerators and how transit occurred, by hand or even RFID tagged blood transit boxes - it will even alert the user when a unit is about to expire in transit.
An Emergency Blood Access button is provided
on the kiosk and can be configured to either
allow access after login or access without login
- This is completely configurable by the system
administrator for each kiosk.
Any time the Emergency Access button is used
the kiosk sounds an alert and an audible & visual
alert is sent to the laboratory. A Full Audit of who,
what, when and where is recorded at point of
access.
Blood360: Issue Fridge Management
Blood360 is the leading Electronic Blood Tracking System because it simply harnesses the latest technologies to ensure Patient Safety.
RFID is one of those technologies and Blood360 makes use of the technology in a very novel approach - we call this approach the Blood360 Triple Check.
RFID is a very complex technology and it is important to understand the technology and its application before choosing the correct type of RFID Tag and RFID Reader. RFID is often thought of as the replacement for Barcode Technology - you will be shocked to know that it
is not. This is because RFID can not only replace
Barcodes but compliment and extend the simple tracking provided by a Barcode and take it further by continually updating the data stored within the Tag itself as it progresses on its journey to the Patient - this is at odds with a traditional Barcode because once a Barcode is printed it cannot be added to or amended unlike its RFID Tag cousin.
RFID Tags can contain the Donation Number, Blood Product Code, current Crossmatch Patient Identifiers, Cold Chain Information and even who took it out of the Fridge last.
RFID and Barcode Technologies can co-exist on exactly the same Label - this allows older technology investments in some areas of the operation still to be used whilst harnessing the newer RFID technology in other areas. This forms the basis of the Blood360 Triple Check.

Blood360: Remote Issue - Hub & Spoke Blood Management
Blood360 expands blood stock management to a new configurable level.
One of the unique aspects of Blood360 is that it allows for blood stock management and blood product issuing remotely. Not constrained by local networks or hardware limitations, Blood360 allows for a true “Hub and Spoke” approach to blood stock management.
This approach is ideal for remote community hospitals, private hospitals or Pathology Labs looking to expand further into the community - it allows Pathology Laboratories to have a campus wide view of blood stock levels, as well as giving the same secure controlled access to blood fridges from a remote location.
Blood360 also gives a greater granular control over fridge access and user guidance by only unlocking the correct compartment for the correct blood in multi-compartment fridges.
Remote Issue saves money by reducing blood waste, reducing transport costs and bringing warehouse style stock management to the blood stock - This cost saving aspect of Blood360 Remote Issue means return on the initial investment is achieved over a shorter period of time.

Blood360: On WardThe web interface allows Ward staff to check if
blood is ready for their patient in an instant and
where it currently is - on its way or in a fridge.
As a web based system, Blood360 gives
its users the freedom to determine which
hardware is used on the ward and
where.
Whether an iPad, Tablet, Laptop or
PC, it’s the user who decides.
Ward staff only see the options
they have access to, making
the system easy to use,
highly configurable and
safe.
Ward staff can simply
access patient and blood
unit history, blood unit
location history, ward
receipt a unit of blood,
fate a unit of blood and
view patient observations
if using the bedside
module - they can even
self print collection cards,
observation charts and
even patient wristbands.
All administration is performed
via the web interface giving lab
staff a vast amount of control over
how the system is used.
The Blood360 system can track any special
requirements for a patient. These are shown in a field
on the web interface next to the patient name and the
product cross matched for them - they are specially
encoded to stop accidental viewing of sensitive data.

Other blood tracking systems would finish once delivery of the blood products have been received at Ward but it’s at this point Blood360 moves beyond a simple blood tracking solution and becomes a patient safety solution.
The Bedside module is the final key piece in maintaining the integrity of the blood products and the safety of the patient.
Utilising unique scanned patient identifiers from the wristband and then cross checking that these identifiers match the patient the unit of blood is matched to helps with final safety checks and acts as a critical tool in blood transfusions.
Blood360 Bedside becomes the logical third person in a standard two person transfusion verification process or in some circumstances allows Blood360 Bedside to replace the second verifier freeing up valuable resource on the Ward.
The bedside module consists of a number of programs to provide the following functions:
• Ward Receipt - time stamps delivery of blood to ward and checks blood is still valid
• Begin Transfusion - guides nurse through checking blood is safe for that patient
• End Transfusion - includes ability to state why transfusion ended with either a positive or negative end
• Take Observations - including mandatory taking of 15 minute and/ or 1 hour observations - fully configurable questions including (M)EWS
• Sluice Receipt - blood unit disposal/ wastage monitoring - reporting back directly to the LIMS if a bi-direction interface is available
• Charts - can view observations per patient in either chart or table format

Blood360: ApplicationsCommunity Hospital Site Suite
This unique application suite allows the extension of blood patient safety right into the community without having to worry about a huge cost burden.
Designed exclusively for sites with low volume blood usage, the application allows 100% patient safety without the huge overhead of a kiosk and
associated installation. Blood360 is available in two versions - a PC based version and a unique to the market PDA version.
Both versions control fridge IN and fridge OUT and the PDA version can be further extended to manage transfusions with the Blood360 Bedside suite - a true ‘all in one’ cost effective solution.
Both versions can also print wristbands.
Military VersionThe Military environment is a unique arena for blood patient safety - MSoft have designed the Blood360 Military version to provide the perfect solution for this arena.
The Military variant of Blood360 operates on standard Military issue server hardware infrastructure and Military grade Tablets and PDA’s. By working in harmony with existing Military spec hardware means Blood360 can be taken right to the front line without modification.
The unique Blood360 Military version manages the cold chain of the blood products with simple and quick to use blood IN and blood OUT controls, cross matches blood products in the field via a unique remote issue system and permits the printing of wristbands on the fly based on dog-tag information to hand.
The product has been designed to be easy to use with close attention to speed in the field - a full audit is also stored of who did what and when.
