INTRODUCTION

This Almanac is intended to be used by students to record their schoolactivities and homework.

Parents are requested to refer to it daily to keep in touch with theday-to-day progress of their wards. The homework set must be doneby the students unaided. Parents and tutors may guide their wardsand help them overcome certain difficulties but spoon-feeding shouldbe avoided. It is being emphasised in school that homework shouldbe set on topics with which children are familiar and the unknownshould be explored in the classroom with the help of teachersthemselves.

This Almanac will establish a valuable liaison between the teachersand the parents with regard to the quality of work being attemptedby the students in the school and at home. It will be good to rememberthat any comments made herein must refer only to the student’swork and conduct.

The purpose will not be served if any criticism of the teaching methodsor condition at home enters these pages bringing the home and theschool at variance with each other. Such criticism can be conveyedin a separate letter addressed to the Principal, who will go into thesematters personally.

The school reserves the right to add, alter, amend or cancelany of the rules / regulations given in this almanac at any timeat its discretion which will be binding on parents / guardians.

WHAT IS EXPECTED OFTHE STUDENTS OF DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL

1. They should take good care of their health and be robust andstrong.

2. They should always be friendly with others in and outside theschool .

3. They should not be vulgar in their talk and behaviour.

4. They should accept whatever work is assigned to them astheir rightful share. They should face difficulties courageously.

5. They should always be ready to lend a helping hand at hometo their parents, brothers and sisters, and in school to teachersand companions and any unattended visitor they happen tomeet on the school premises.

6. They should never cheat or be unfair at play.

7. They should stand up when a teacher or a visitor comes totalk to them.

8. They should be truthful whatever be the cost.9. They should never be cruel. They must know that cruelty is

the trait of a bully while kindness is the mark of a gentleman.10. They should respect the beauty of the classroom and of the

school premises and report any damage they may observe.11. They should never hesitate to say ‘no’ when asked or tempted

to do a thing which they know to be wrong.12. They should respect the liberty and the rights of others.

13. Instead of lamenting and grumbling over the evils of the world,they should try to contribute their share to make it a betterplace to live in.

14. They should look upon people from all parts of the world astheir brethren, irrespective of their colour and creed.

15. They should not waste their time in idle gossip.

16. They should take pride in wearing the school uniform.

17. English being the mode of instruction it is expected of allDipsites to interact in English.

18. Students are expected to be ready to pick up good habits anddiscard the bad ones; learn social manners and preparethemselves for healthy citizenship in a democratic society.

GENERAL GUIDELINESFOR PARENTS / GUARDIANS

The school believes in discipline and in firmness. Slackness,disobedience and disregard of rules will not be tolerated and anywork or action likely to lower the image of the school is regarded asa breach of the school discipline.

The School reserves the right to expel students whose diligence orprogress in studies is considered unsatisfactory or whose conductis harmful to other students. Immorality, insubordination or contemptof authority and breaking bounds are always sufficient reasons forbeing expelled or rusticated immediately.

1. Parents are urged not to change the phone / mobile number ina session. If at all there is a change in the address or phone /mobile number the information should reach the schoolimmediately through the Principal. All intimations regarding thechange in the students’ profile must reach the school office inthe month of January itself.

2. Parents must ensure that the mobile number given for SMSalerts is functional in order to facilitate communication.

3. Parents must check the school website periodically in orderto remain updated with the school activities.

4. Children, when sick, should not be sent to school to attendtests / classes.

5. Children must avoid going home during school hours. Parentsare requested to avoid making any social engagements ormedical appointments during school working hours.

6. Leave for 1/2 day should not be asked for security reasons.On emergency, written permission must be taken from thePrincipal and the class teacher and the bus in-charge shouldbe informed accordingly. Students will be handed over to theparents only or in case of any difficulty, they may be handedover to the guardian only after he/she submits an authorisationletter from the parent.

7. Attention of parents is drawn to the fact that criticism of theteacher or school in the presence of their children should bescrupulously avoided because it causes them to lose respectfor their teachers with the consequent failure to learn fromthem. It further retards his/her progress.

8. Parents are advised to grant pocket money very judiciously to theirwards. The pocket money should not exceed Rs. 15/- to 20/-.

9. Should there be any legitimate complaint, please meet thePrincipal at once or write in a separate letter addressed tohim/her. He/she will look into these matters personally.

10. Any communication made by parents / guardians should beaddressed to the Principal and not to the class teachers andall correspondence from the school to the parents must bethrough the Principal.

11. Parents must keep the Achievement record, if issued in safecustody. If the record is lost, a replacement will be made onpayment of Rs. 100/-.

12. The name, admission number, class, section and house ofthe student should be clearly marked on his/her belongingssuch as bags, blazers, jerseys, etc.

13. Parents are requested to co-operate with the school andensure that their wards speak in English, as defaulters areissued demerit slips which may lead to marks deduction inthe exams/tests.

14. The School conducts educational trips and tours to nearbyplaces as well as to places of interest outside the state. Theseprogrammes are necessary for the holistic development ofthe child and as per the prescribed norms. Parents are urgedto send their wards as these programmes are part of the projectwork. 15. Parents are requested to co-operate with the school in itsattempt to help in the progress of their ward(s) by payingattention to the regularity, punctuality, discipline and by takinginterest in their performance in scholastic as well as co-scholastic activities. 17. Care must be taken of all school property and any damagecaused by a student will be made good by the studentconcerned. In addition, a fine will be imposed for the offence.

18. Parents are requested not to give the children valuable articleslike expensive watches, pens, tape recorders, calculators,cameras, cell phones, CDs, I-phone and jewellery etc. to bringto school. In case of any loss of valuables or other articles,the school authorities will try their best to trace these but shallnot undertake any responsibility for the loss.

19. All Students are expected to join the school on the notifieddate at the beginning of the school term. A fine of Rs. 30/- isimposed for absence on the reopening date, unless thePrincipal is informed before the beginning of the term andshe is satisfied about the reason. Students will not leavebefore the end of the term which officially ends after the flagassembly on the last day. Parents and guardians willappreciate that absence during term is not in the best interestof the student. They are asked not to apply for leave if it canpossibly be avoided. Leave may be granted to a student onlyon the following grounds :-

SCHOOL RULES

1. The Almanac and ID Card (Bus Pass, if applicable) should becarried by students to school every day.

2. Parents are requested to avail school bus facility fortransportation of their wards. Students who come to schoolby their own transport, should arrive at school before thestart of the Home Room period.

3. Parents are urged to inculcate punctuality in their ward(s).They must be sent to school on time (refer to page 21). If late,they will be allowed to attend classes but marked absent onrolls (remark will be written in the Almanac).

4. It is advised and suggested to all parents that whatever theprivate mode of transport in which they wish to send theirward(s) to school, it must be ensured that it is not overcrowdedand the children are comfortably seated.

5. The bell before the assembly is a signal for the students to gofor the assembly. As soon as they are back in their classes,the students should get their books ready for the first period.They should maintain perfect discipline.

6. Change of classrooms between periods should be done insilence and in an orderly manner.

7. Students should be habitually clean and always neatlydressed. The school uniform should be worn on all workingdays and for all school functions. Students who are not inproper uniform will not be allowed to enter their classrooms.

8. Non-Sikh boys should get their hair cut at regular intervals.No student is allowed to have stylish haircuts. Only generalhaircut is allowed.

9. Only English should be spoken in the school premises.Non compliance will be reflected in the CCE/Assessments.

10. Shouting or whistling is not allowed in or around the schoolbuilding.

16. Bicycles must be locked. Students must not ride around onthe school compound on bicycles.

18. Students are required to go straight back home after school.If found otherwise they are liable to be punished.

Theymust ensure that if their ward is coming to school on twowheelers he/she has a valid license, helmet is worn by him/herand he/she does not indulge in pillion or triple riding.

25. Students must come to school in uniform only. This ruleapplies even when they come to school for any purposeother than attending classes or even after school hours.

26. Students who borrow uniform, from the school infirmary mustreturn it after cleaning it on the next working day. If the borroweduniform is not returned on the due date a fine @ Rs. 10/- perday will be charged. If a student takes crepe bandage, a newcrepe bandage has to be given to the infirmary.

27. Parents are urged to monitor the use of internet espcially thesocial networking sites, if at all used by their ward(s).

SWIMMING POOL RULES1. Swimming costume is compulsory for all users and without

proper kit (swimming costume, swimming trunk, cap etc.) noone shall be allowed to enter the pool.

2. All users have to bring their own costume, towel, cap, goggle etc.3. In case of suffering from any communicable diseases, skin

ABSENCE AND WITHDRAWALABSENCE

1. Students are responsible for making up all work missed duringthe period of their absence.

2. No student will be allowed to leave the school campus duringthe school hours. However, in case of any emergency, theparent(s) / guardian should come to the school with anapplication, explaining the reason to take the ward(s). If thePrincipal / Vice-Principal / Headmistress is satisfied with theexplanation, the ward(s) may be allowed to go after filling theproforma concerned in duplicate.

3. No student who was absent on the previous day will be admittedto the class without the permission of the class teacher.

4. No leave of absence is granted except on medical grounds.

5. Reported absence without granted leave or unexplainedabsence for six consecutive working days will result in thestudent’s name being struck off the rolls. Re-admission maybe granted at the discretion of the Principal, only on paymentof fresh admission fee.

6. Attendance on the re-opening day after each of the vacationsis compulsory.

7. Unintimated absence for 3 consecutive working daysimmediately after a vacation, session or a term will resultin the student’s name being struck off the rolls.

8. Those absent without granted leave will be fined at the rate ofRs. 5/- per day. If on any day the attendance of a particularclass becomes less than 85%, all students remaining absenton that day shall be charged a special fine as decided by theschool. The students already on sanctioned leave would beexempted from this fine. Those absent because of sicknessmust present the medical prescription along with medical reportson diagnosis. If required the school will get the medical testsconducted. (The leave will be sanctioned subject to confirmationof the tests) and it is mandatory to submit the fitness certificatefrom the doctor on the day of rejoining the school.

9. Every student must have atleast 85% attendance to appearin half yearly / annual / pre-board examination. Those who failto fulfil this criterion for any of these examinations, will bedebarred from that examination and marked zero for the same

in the mark sheet. Request from the defaulters in this regard willnot be entertained. 85% attendance criterion is applicable to eachof the two examinations separately. Benefit of having moreattendance for half yearly will not be given to the annual. Therelaxation in the attendance may be granted subject to the fullsatisfaction of the Principal on any of the following two grounds :

— Medical grounds : In case the child is seriously sick andremains absent for two or more than two consecutive workingdays he/she will have to produce the medical fitness certificatefrom a competent authority.

— Any mishappening in the family

Under both the above mentioned conditions it is the duty ofthe parents to inform the school well in time.

10. A student returning to school after suffering from an infectious/contagious disease should produce a doctor’s certificate offitness to attend classes. Students suffering from the followingdisease must observe the prescribed period of quarantinebefore returning to class.

a) Chicken pox : Till scabs fall completely

b) Cholera : Till the child is completely well

c) Conjunctivitis : Till redness in the eyes completelydisappears

d) Measles : Two weeks after the rashesdisappear

e) Mumps : Until swelling has gone(about one month)

f) Whooping Cough : Six weeks

A discharge slip alongwith the other related documents will berequired from the hospital in case a student has been hospitalisedfor any disease (e.g. jaundice, typhoid, malaria etc.)

11. No re-examination will be held for the students who remainabsent in any of the examination.

It is compulsory for all the students to appear in the assessmentsand examinations in order to get promotion to the next class. MondayTests and performance in the class during the entire year is alsotaken into account. Monday tests will be part of the regularassessment and will be given one exemption. The regularity inattendance and work is imperative. The general criterion for promotionto the next class is that a student should get at least 40% in eachsubject.

For classes XI and XII wherever practicals are a part of the subject,a student should pass (i.e. get at least 40% marks) separately in thepractical and theory.

TRANSPORT

The school has its own buses which are available for its students asper the availability of the seats. For details of bus route please consultthe transport in-charge. The following rules will be observed :

1. The charge per pupil per month or any part of the month thereofis Rs. 570/-. The school does not entertain any request forchanges in bus stops or bus route to suit individual conveniences.

2. A notice of one calendar month is required for dis-continuationof bus facility by a student.

BUS RULES

1. Students availing bus facility are expected to be on the properside of their bus stop at least five minutes prior to the scheduledarrival time of the bus.

2. Students waiting for the buses should stay away from the mainroad until the bus arrives.

3. The buses will not wait for late comers.

4. No bus rider should come near the entry door of the bus untilthe bus has come to a complete stop.

5. All bus riders must occupy vacant seats immediately afterboarding their buses.

6. The front door of the bus is the only authorised entranceand exit.

7. The drivers are authorised to stop buses at the designatedstops only, unless otherwise directed by the bus teacher. Thelist of stops will be prepared keeping in view the convenienceand satisfaction of bus riders and is subject to change.

8. When the bus is in motion, students must not move aroundthe bus. The riders must not have any part of their body out ofthe windows.

9. Object of any kind must not be discarded inside or thrown outof the bus.

10. Students will be held responsible for any damage to busescaused by their negligence or deliberate act.

11. No student is allowed to eat in the bus.

12. Shrieking, shouting or any unruly behaviour is never expectedof the students. If they are found to be indulging in anyindisciplinary activities in the bus, the bus services may bewithdrawn.

13. The driver should not be distracted for any reason.

14. The bus teacher(s) and student bus monitors are responsiblefor maintaining discipline in the buses and any violation ofrules should be reported to the Principal.

15. Students availing bus facility must carry their Bus Passeveryday.

It is with the belief that the core component of everychild is goodness and reformatory measures would reform the childand bring him into the mainstream of the class with a better standardof conduct.

So instead of punishments, we have reformatory measures. This isa complete charter of wrongs that have time and again beencommitted by students and their reformatory measures areimplemented. For example; If a student destroys school property,the child is assigned the task of cataloging or covering of books inthe library, cleaning of a specified area on campus, preparation of‘sorry’ or ‘get-well’ cards and so on.

HOUSE SYSTEMThere are six Houses in the school - Ganga, Jamuna, Raavi, Chenab,Sutlej and Jhelum. Every student, on admission is placed in one ofthese Houses.

Each House is headed by a student designated as House Captain.A member of the staff, assisted by several other teachers (tutors),acts as the House Warden. Points are awarded to the studentsthroughout the year for their performance in extra curricular activities,games and sports. Points are also awarded to individual studentsand groups for their performance in competitions.

Inter-House competitions are organised and trophies are awardedto Houses for their performance in literary, cultural and sportsactivities. Every outstanding student is given a certificate for his/ herperformance in these competitions.

SPORTS

The school provides adequate games and sports facilities to itsstudents. Participation of the students in sport activities is essential inthe Physical Education periods. 6. Students can borrow books on their own cards only. Referencebooks will not be issued to students.

7. Books are issued for seven days and periodicals for two days.A fine of Rs. 5.00 per book or periodical per day will be chargedfor returning books and periodicals after the due date.

8. Apart from the books in the library, the students have accessto information through several educational CDs which areavailable on all subjects, topics and different scientific projectsand experiments.

9. P. Kalyanasundaram - A large E-library, well equipped withinternet accessibility, study materials and a number ofmagazines and journals for competitive examination has beennewly structured in the ‘B’ Block of the school.
