Chair’s ColumnChilly mornings, frosted car windows, college bowl games, family members visiting for the holidays to raid your pantries, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and the Clemson Tigers in another football playoff. It must be December! 2017 is coming to an end and WEASC is heading down the home stretch.
With December here, WEASC Capital District is focusing its efforts on the annual awards meeting in January at the Lexington County Municipal Complex. We hope to have another exciting awards banquet to recognize the members who have gone above and beyond in their career duties. I would like to congratulate the award recipients and good luck towards the state awards.

The Capital District of the Water Environment Association of South Carolina (WEASC) held their November Meeting in The Community Room at the Chapin Town Hall in Chapin, SC. The total number in attendance for the meeting was 89 people.
The meeting and the delicious meal from Parklane Seafood was sponsored by the Town of Chapin Utilities, P&S Construction, and Pascon, LLC and co-sponsored by American Engineering Consultants, Inc., Carolina Lift Stations, Inc., ClearWater Inc., and Pete Duty & Associates. The meal was blessed by Jimmy Wigglesworth. After dinner, Chair Clint Riley called the meeting to order and recognized the State Executive Committee members in attendance, as well as the new members. A motion was made by Joe Desroches to approve the September meeting minutes and a second was received. Chair Riley then thanked the meeting sponsors and co-sponsors for their support and presented plaques for the night’s sponsors. Chair Riley announced that the Nominating Committee has posted their
June 30th. Chair Riley introduced the new acting Secretary for the Capital District, Liz O’Sell. Next,
Chair Riley made a couple of announcements regarding SCEC. SCEC hotel reservations are open. Also, SCEC sponsorship opportunities are still available. Visit the SC Waters website for more SCEC information. Chair Riley reminded members that State and Capital District Award nominations are open. Visit the Capital District webpage or see Chair Riley, Bill Davis, Jay Nicholson, or Jimmy Wigglesworth for more information. Henry Gibson then encouraged members to invite new members, apply for the DHEC Facility Excellence Award, and thank our armed forces in the spirit of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. Chair
stepped down from the Executive Director position. Skip Johnson is the acting Executive Director, and applications for the position are being accepted. The next district meeting will be January 18th at the Town of Lexington Municipal Complex.
With no further business to discuss, a motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Joe Desroches, and a second motion by Bill Davis followed to conclude the November 2017 Capital District Meeting.

Awards & Operator Recognition Committee: The Awards & Operator Recognition Committee shall be responsible for soliciting nominees for potential District, state and national awards, obtaining plaques, and presenting awards. The Committee is also responsible for developing other potential methods to recognize Capital District members. operators for consideration by the District Executive Committee.
