  1. 1. All You Need To Know About The New Texas Vehicle Registration Sticker
  2. 2. A new law updating the vehicle registration process was passed in the Texas 2014 legislative session. This new law affects every Texas driver.
  3. 3. We will still need to get our vehicles inspected and pay the State for our vehicle registration yearly, but both will be displayed as part of one sticker on your windshield; thats the short version.
  4. 4. As it is with any law, the practical part is a bit more complicated.
  5. 5. Vehicle Registration Renewal Is Still The Same. As of March 1, 2015, you will have to get your vehicle registration renewed when it is due; that doesnt change.
  6. 6. The only difference is that your vehicles inspection must be up-to-date before they will allow you to renew your vehicle registration.
  7. 7. So, if your state inspection is due after your renewal, you will be able to renew the vehicle registration normally.
  8. 8. You will then use the sticker to replace both stickers (vehicle registration and safety inspection) that are on your windshield.
  9. 9. Your next state inspection is not due again until right before your next vehicle registration renewal, so you might be able to save a few bucks.
  10. 10. What If Your State Inspection Is Due Before Or At The Same Time As Your Vehicle Registration Renewal?
  11. 11. If your state inspection is due at the same time your vehicle registration renewal is due, simply renew your inspection.
  12. 12. You will be able to renew your vehicle registration once the inspection record is in the state's databases.
  13. 13. If inspection is due before, things are only a little more complicated.
  14. 14. Have your vehicle safety inspected in the month that it is due.
  15. 15. You will not receive a sticker, so save the safety report in your glove compartment.
  16. 16. You can use this to show a police officer that you have a proper safety inspection if you are stopped for something else.
  17. 17. When your vehicle registration is due, register your vehicle as normal and use the sticker to replace both of the previous ones.
  18. 18. You then follow the new process of inspection, then renewal in the month your vehicle registration is due.
  19. 19. The State of Texas has set up a website to help answer all of your questions about the new vehicle registration system.
  20. 20. The website address is TwoStepsOneSticker.com.
  21. 21. In the long run the new vehicle registration renewal system should help everyone.
