Yorkville Sound was founded in 1963, in the back room of the original Long & McQuade music store in downtown Toronto. Co-founder Pete Traynor, then a young customer with a knack for fixing friends’ and bandmates’ amps, offered to assist Jack Long with the growing backlog of broken rental units in need of repair.

Pete quickly developed a reputation for providing quick and solid repair turnaround, as well as developing and creating rugged and reliable amps and speakers. His first Traynor design was the Dynabass – a rugged and reliable bass amp that was designed and built to withstand the rigours of rentals and the road.

In 1963, it was decided that they would name their venture “Yorkville Sound,” after the coffee house and live music hub that was located across the street from the store.

Soon after incorporating in 1965, Yorkville Sound expanded its product line and has since become a highly respected international brand.

Yorkville has continued to be a product innovator in live PA and instrument amplification. The current production facility employs over 250 people and is located in Pickering, Ontario.

In a time when many companies have moved their production offshore, Yorkville continues to design and manufacture world class audio gear in Canada.
