From Fr. Joe Happy, Joyful & Glorious Easter!!!
The following excerpt was part of my first
Easter bulletin article, three years ago, here at
All Saints Parish. It was part of an Easter homily
found in HOMILIES, Sunday and Weekday
Masses published by FAITH Catholic-Publishing
Communications, Catholic Diocese of Lansing:
[T]he Easter mystery we celebrate today
has not changed for more than 2,000
years. We read the same story about
the same people, with the same out-
come, year after year. Yet we keep
coming back; and next year we shall do
it all over again. The question is: If
Christ’s resurrection from the dead was
such a breakthrough in human history
and in the story of our salvation, why do
we need to celebrate it over and over?
The answer is simple: the story may not
change, the outcome may always be
the same, but it is we who are to change
each time we gather to celebrate the
mystery. Hopefully, each time we do so,
we grow just a little bit more in our ability
to live the mystery and to become the
Easter people we are called to be.
For us, as Christians, Easter is not just a
story we tell once a year. It is a way of
life. [bold emphasis added]
The new life of the Resurrection of Christ that
we celebrate isn’t just from the physical death
Jesus had died three days earlier; it is also the
promise of resurrected life for us. (At the end of
the Nicene Creed we profess: I look forward to
the resurrection of the dead and the life of the
world to come.) Just as Easter should be a way
of life for us, it was Jesus’ way of life too. He
didn’t just die on Good Friday—throughout his
life Jesus was dying to himself for the sake of
those around him, and he brought new life to
all those who allowed him to touch their lives.
When Jesus said: There is no greater love than
this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends
(John 15:13), that doesn’t just mean physical
death. While some might be called to actually
physically die for someone else, as Jesus
certainly did for us, we are all called to die to
ourselves for the good of those we love. That
can seem hard – no, it is hard – but maybe, just
maybe … yeah … I can probably do that for
my spouse, my children, my family, my ______.
But here’s the real test — can you do that for
people you really don’t care much for? For
those you disagree with? For your enemies?
Yes, Jesus died for everyone, and that also
included his enemies! And he told us: Love
your enemies (Matthew 5:44).

Rev 1:9-11a, 12-13, 17-19; Jn 20:19-31
From Fr. Joe—Continued (Continued from page 2)
That sounds nice, but what if I just can’t do
that? What if the hurt, or whatever it is that
makes them my enemy, is just too much? For
one thing “love your enemies” doesn’t
necessarily mean to have warm, fuzzy,
pleasant feelings for them. Can you wish what
is best for them? Can you pray for them? To
pray for your persecutors” is also part of
Matthew 5:44. And if/when we don’t always
get it right, or do it right, then ask Jesus for help
and allow him to touch your life, and he will
give you new life.
Yes, as we go through this cyclic celebration
of Easter yet again, keep in mind that Jesus’
resurrection is not only about life after physical
death; it’s also about new life after dying to
ourselves, about how to live, here and now,
again, and again … and, yes, yet again!
I hope you have a Blessed and Holy Easter!
P.S. The Angelus prayer is prayed throughout
most of the year and traditionally at the hours
of 6 AM, 12 noon, and 6 PM, though it can be
prayed any time. Here at All Saints Parish, it is
prayed before the 12 noon weekday Masses,
before Morning and Evening Prayer of the
Liturgy of the Hours, and other times. During
the Easter Season (i.e. from Easter Sunday
through the Feast of Pentecost), the Angelus is
replaced with the Regina Caeli. The Regina
Caeli prayer can be found on printed handouts
near the church entrances, and in the little blue
booklet entitled “The Catholic Devotional”
(on page 41).
Stewardship in Our Readings In the second reading today, St. Paul reminds the Colossians that they
have been raised with Christ, exhorting them to “think about the things
above rather than things of earth.” We, too, have been raised with Christ.
Let us rejoice and be glad!

The Sunday after Easter is Divine Mercy Sunday!
During his homily at the canonization ceremony of St. Faustina
Kowalski on April 30, 2000, the Servant of Good Pope John Paul II
highlighted the message of mercy manifested to that well-loved
Saint in the course of her short life. He declared, moreover, that
the Second Sunday of Easter would hence be known
throughout the Church as “ Divine Mercy Sunday.” As
Providence would have it, just five years later, Pope John Paul II
would pass from this life into the next after praying first Vespers
for Divine Mercy Sunday.” To ensure that the faithful would
observe this day with intense devotion, Pope John Paul II
established that Divine Mercy Sunday be enriched by a plenary
indulgence so that the faithful might receive in great abundance the gift of consolation of
the Holy Spirit. The plenary indulgence is granted under the usual conditions (sacramental
confession, Eucharistic communion and prayer for the intentions of Supreme Pontiff) to the
faithful who, on Divine Mercy Sunday, “ in any church or chapel, in a spirit that is
completely detached from the affection for sin, even a venial sin, take part in the prayers
and devotions held in honor of Divine Mercy, or who, in the presence of the Blessed
Sacrament exposed or reserved in the tabernacle, recite the Our Father and the Creed,
adding a devout prayer to the merciful Lord Jesus (e.g. Merciful Jesus, I trust in you!).” For
all who cannot leave their homes for a just cause or who carry out an activity for the
community which cannot be postponed, the plenary indulgence on Divine Mercy Sunday
may be granted if, totally detesting any sin and with the intention of fulfilling as soon as
possible the three usual conditions, those faithful recite the Our Father and the Creed
before a devout image of Our Merciful Lord Jesus and, in addition, pray a devout
invocation to the Merciful Lord Jesus (e.g. Merciful Jesus, I trust in you.” ). A partial
indulgence was at the same time granted to the faithful who, at least with a contrite heart,
pray to the merciful Lord Jesus a legitimately approved invocation.
Background on Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska Sister Faustina was a young, uneducated, nun in a convent of the Congregation of Sisters
of Our Lady of Mercy in Krakow, Poland during the 1930’s. She came from a very poor
family that struggled on their little farm during the years of World War I. She had only three
years of very simple education, so hers were the humblest tasks in the convent, usually in
the kitchen or garden. However, she received extraordinary revelations or messages from
Our Lord Jesus. Jesus asked Sr. Faustina to record these experiences, which she compiled
in notebooks. These notebooks are known today as the Diary of Saint Maria Faustina
Kowalska and the words contained within are God’s loving message of Divine Mercy.
Though the Divine Mercy message is not new to the teachings of the Church, Sr. Faustina’s
Diary sparked a great movement and a strong and significant focus on the mercy of Christ.
Pope John Paul II canonized Sr. Faustina in 2000 making her the “first saint of the new
millennium.” Speaking of Sr. Faustina and the importance of the message contained in her
Diary, the Pope called her “the great apostle of Divine Mercy in our time.”

Parish Vision All Saints Parish is a spiritual and faith-filled family,
embraced by God’s love. We are centered on the
Holy Eucharist, inspired by the Communion of Saints
and empowered by the Holy Spirit to enliven and
ignite a community bound by love. We are united in
vibrant service under the leadership of the Trinity.
Parish Mission We, the members of All Saints Parish are called as a
sacramental people to grow in our faith and
participate fully in the one Body of Christ, centered in
the Eucharist. We value each other’s gifts and talents
as we serve the needs of our community while living
the truth and love of the Gospel.

Authority to provide
a ride for those who
are in need.
Those who need a ride will need to call TBTA
(ph: 989-356-4596) two hours before you would
like to be picked up to schedule your ride. If
you wish to have it charged, you must tell TBTA
dispatcher you are charging it to All Saints
Parish (we will not be doing reimbursements as
we would have no proof of a ride).
The parish will cover the ride only to/from
Church for the 4 PM Saturday Mass and the
11 AM Sunday Mass (based on the hours of
operation for TBTA).
