The last month of the school year is upon us and it has been a rewarding year for all of us. We would like to thank all of our staff, our students and you, our parents for continuing to share in our vision as a Catholic Learning Community. We have accomplished so much this year and we should take pride in the challenges and opportunities that we successfully conquered. To all of our students, remember, our year is not over yet. Our teachers have noticed much growth and success in each and every one of you and therefore continue to work smart till the end of the year. The month of June is filled with many exciting activities and events. We would also like to extend our best wishes to all families who will be leaving the All Saints family and we wish them many blessings for the future. We especially would like to bid a warm-hearted farewell to some staff who are moving on. Mr. D’Astolfo will be moving to Fr. Daniel Comboni School, while Mr. Carrabs will start the year at St. Christopher school, and to Miss Chafe who will also be reassigned for September. I am certain they will continue to enrich the lives of the students at their new schools as much as they have enriched ours. May God’s blessing be with them always! Good luck to Mrs. Atkinson who will be on her maternity leave next year. She, her husband, and little girls will welcome a new baby into their lives this September. We would like to thank Mrs. Hilario who has been appointed as Principal of St. Christopher School and will begin that new position in September- Thank you, Mrs. Hilario for your dedication to our school over the past 3 years. God Bless you as you embark on a new chapter of your commitment to Catholic Education. A special farewell and blessing goes to Ms. Parker as she has ‘graduates’ into retirement. After a selfless and dedicated 27 years at All Saints school, Ms. Parker is taking some well-deserved time to enjoy the feeling that comes with enriching the lives of hundreds of students and staff over the years. Ms. Parker, may God continue you to bless you and keep you safe. A warm welcome goes out to the new staff joining us in the Junior Division for the next school year. Mrs. Dutra and Mrs. DaCosta will be joining our staff: Welcome to the Wildcats! We would also like to take this opportunity to express our thanks to our Trustee Sharon Hobin and the Mississauga South Family of Schools Superintendent Deborah Finegan-Downey for their continued support of the All Saints School community. Thank you to Father Tim, Father Charles and the Loyola Parish pastoral team for their spiritual guidance. As we look ahead, may our Lord continue to shine upon us as we walk together through the final days of our journey. A very special thank you goes out to our Catholic School Council who has worked so diligently over this year. Your dedication and hard work is truly commendable. We thank these parents for the countless hours that you have put into supporting the traditions and successes of All Saints School. A special mention to our Chairperson Mrs. Leonard who took on a big position this year. We wish blessings upon our grade 8 graduates and all of the students and families leaving our school for different places next year. Take with you the many wonderful memories and life lessons that you have learned. We hope everyone has a safe and restful summer and look forward to seeing you in September. | Dare to Learn! Dare to Dream! ALL SAINTS: JUNE Newsletter

We have recently celebrated Catholic Education Week in our schools. It has been my pleasure to attend

liturgies, school concerts, school plays, Shining Stars Special Olympics, the Joe Sax Festival, art

exhibits, and much more. As your trustee, I have a front row seat to witness the dedication of our

teachers and support staff who put in many more hours than expected to help the students share their

many talents. I also see the important role of our parents/guardians, working in concert with the school

and the parish in fostering conditions for success and well-being. We are blessed to have such

wonderful, engaged and dedicated Catholic School Councils that support learning and student

achievement as well as promote community building in our schools.

Summer has come in with a bang and so we begin the final phase of classes and exams for the 2016-

2017 school year. It has been a very successful year. With excellent EQAO scores and outstanding

graduation rates your trustees are committed to meet the goals outlined in our Strategic Plan. It is crucial

that we work towards constant improvement and new initiatives to provide better environments for

learning and wellbeing.

As we plan to attend graduations we know that it has been paramount that our students are prepared to

move on to their secondary education, college, university, or the world of work. It has been our

commitment to help each student fulfill their potential, through the Ontario Catholic School Graduate

Expectations, to become good, solid, contributing members of the communities in which they will live.

We are facing challenges. We are seeing cuts to our funding again. We must cut several million to our

2017-18 budget that must be balanced. Despite difficult challenges we are committed to deliver a

balanced budget and provide quality Catholic educational experiences to our students. And we will. I

encourage you to check out the questions and answers about the budget that we received during our

April 26th live webcast. Over 1000 people took part. We are very pleased with the results. And we know

that it is our utmost duty to protect and defend Catholic education. It is our hope that you will always be

ready to join us in that work.

As I write this note to you, the retirements and changes to administration have not been finalized. To

those leaders who are retiring I wish you many blessings as you move on to another chapter in your

lives. I look forward to welcoming our new administrators and I say a very special thanks to those who

will be transferred or promoted. It has been my sincere pleasure to work with you every day. I thank

Superintendent Deborah Finegan-Downey and Administrative Assistant Caroline McFarland for your

constant help.

Thank you to our parents for choosing a Dufferin-Peel Catholic education for your child(ren). We take

this responsibility very seriously. To our students, thank you for all you have done to contribute to the

life of your school. May God bless you over the summer months. Special blessings to our graduates. I

wish you great adventures and accomplishments!

I wish you many blessings and best wishes for a peaceful and restful summer. And may the good Lord

always hold you in the palm of His hand.

Thank you for choosing a Dufferin-Peel Catholic Education

BRENDON DESOUZA AWARD

Who was Brendon deSouza? Brendon was a student at All Saints from 1995-2000. In September 2000, he moved to the community of St. Edith Stein, at which point this brave boy took on his battle with cancer. Brendon was an inspirational learner with wisdom beyond his years. At the end of each year, teachers, support staff and other members of our community nominate students who demonstrate our shared Catholic values and virtues through word or deed. All students are eligible for the award, which will be handed out at the final school assembly on June 29th at 9:30 am. All are invited to attend this awards assembly.

LOCK DOWN DRILLS AND FIRE DRILLS

During this month, we will continue to practice a number of emergency response procedures. All schools are required by Board policy to practice these procedures throughout the year. We have these rehearsals for precautionary purposes only, so that in the event of an actual emergency, students will be prepared to respond in a safe and responsible manner.

WARM WEATHER PRECAUTIONS

During the warm days of spring and early summer, students are advised to wear sunscreen on school

day mornings and a hat when outdoors at recess. Drinking extra water will help with hydration. Weather

conditions are monitored during the school day for heat alerts and other unsafe conditions. Time and

activities outdoors are adjusted according to this information.

WARM WEATHER DRESS CODE

The Board Policy states that all students are expected to dress in clean, neat and practical attire. Appropriate attire is the criterion for acceptable dress that most often reflects our attitude toward any given situation. The expectation is that we avoid such recreational wear as tank tops, halter tops, muscle shirts, strapless tops, spaghetti straps, bare midriffs, short shorts, cut offs, and shirts with inappropriate logos/symbols. These items are contrary to both the philosophy of our Catholic schools and the standards that we set as parents and educators. Thank you for your continued support for a dress code which reflects the school as a place of learning accompanied by standards of sensitivity, politeness and decorum.

BICYCLES, SKATEBOARDS, SCOOTERS

In the interest of safety, students who ride bicycles, scooters and skateboards to school are reminded that once they are on school property, all wheels are to be walked. “WALK YOUR WHEELS”. Please walk your bike to the bike rack, lock it up and do not touch it until dismissal time. Scooters and skateboards can be stored on

your coat racks and not touched during the day. Upon dismissal time, students are asked to walk their wheels off school property before riding them. Please keep in mind that the locked bicycles are not supervised and are left on school grounds at the owner’s risk. CROSSWALK: please use the cross walk and crossing guard when you are crossing the road at the front of the school. We want everyone to be SAFE!

DISTRIBUTION AND STORAGE OF MEDICATION & EPI-PENS FOR SEPTEMBER 2016

Pick up Medication Stored in the office for the

summer months…

A reminder to parents that if you will need to pick up any

medications and/or Epi-pen for your child that have been

stored in the office this year. Please do so on June 29th

in person or give your child written permission to take home his/her medication the last day of school.

LOST AND FOUND

The bin is full! All of this stuff has an owner somewhere in our school… it was brought here by the students, so it belongs to someone. If you are looking for that lost hat, winter coat, snow pants, pair of running shoes, or lunch box you can probably find it here. All classes will have an opportunity to walk past the lost and found but you are welcome to come in and check as well. Unclaimed items will be bagged up and donated to a local charity. Please ensure that your child’s items are labelled with their name so that if they do get lost, they can be returned.

Thank you to the tireless efforts of this year’s School Council. This year events

and fundraising included: - Auction - Stadium days - Frozen Yogurt - Subs - Movie Nights - Chocolate fundraiser - School dances (Valentine's, Halloween, Christmas ) And with the financial support provided by Council we were able to make program enhancements in the following areas:

- Literacy - Art Show - Technology - Oral Presentations (Guest Speakers/Authors ) - Gym equipment /new Volleyball nets - Grade 8 graduation - Bus transportation to the year end mass - Quebec trip subsidy - Mathletes - Family Subsidies - X-Movement

On May 2nd, 2017 All Saints Catholic School hosted our 2nd annual Art show and silent auction which drew hundreds of families in the community and was a resounding success. All Saints staff, students and families would like to thank everyone who supported this event. To acknowledge the wonderful support we receive from the community, a copy of the attached donor list was sent home with all students. The silent auction (from which the success depends largely on donations) helped us raise over $2,000 for All Saints. All funds raised during this event are used to enrich the educational and extracurricular experience of our children. We thank you once again. Sincerely, E. Leonard

INFORMATION FOR PARENTS REGARDING SCHOOL START UP TRANSPORTATION PROCEDURES

FOR SEPTEMBER 2017 If your home address will be changing during the summer, please notify the office staff at your child’s school

prior to June 30. Late requests will not be reflected in the planned bus routes to commence in September and may result in transportation services not being available for your child during the first weeks of school. Parents will be responsible for their children getting to and from school until appropriate transportation service is arranged.

The distance criteria for transportation eligibility must be more than: 1.0 kilometer Kindergarten and Grade 1

1.6 kilometers for Grades 2 – 4 2.0 kilometers for Grades 5 – 8

3.8 kilometers for Grades 9 – 12 If your child is moving to grade 2, grade 5, or grade 9 in the 2017-2018 school year, their eligibility status for transportation may be changing. Eligibility information can be accessed at the website noted below. Parents who received letters in May of this year indicating that the transportation eligibility status for their children is being revised due to eligibility reassessment are reminded that this change will occur effective September 5, 2017.

All transported kindergarten and grade 1 students are required to be met by a parent/caregiver when

disembarking from their bus on their return trip from school. Courtesy transportation, which is assignment of ineligible students to available, empty seats on buses, will not

be initiated prior to October 2. No exceptions. Please be aware that during September and early October, STOPR priorities are eligible students requiring

transportation service, bus overloads, and route timing adjustments. Requests for additional or adjusted bus stop locations, route adjustments, and challenges to eligibility status

will not be addressed until late October. Please be patient. STOPR provides transportation services for approximately 65,000 students to 350 schools

on 1,400 buses. This is accomplished with an operations staff of 15. Every effort is made to complete required adjustments as quickly as possible, but there are limitations to the volume of changes which can be appropriately communicated and implemented each week.

All transportation operations issues are the responsibility of STOPR and not either Board or individual

Trustees. Contacting STOPR Internet: www.stopr.ca. This website provides up to date delay and inclement weather cancellation

information in addition to policy, procedures and frequently asked questions Businfo.stopr.ca. This website allows parents to access information specific to “what school do I

attend” and “am I eligible for transportation”. This site also provides parents access to specific bus stop location and pick up and drop off times for their children if eligible for transportation
