John, Hayley and Katie.

David joined the Oil and Gas industry in Bahrain in 1978after gaining his degree in Mechanical Engineering. Since then he has lived in 11 countries, spanning 5 continents.

He has gained extensive experience and knowledge in drilling, well construction and well completions with Halliburton, Lasalle, Reda, Camco, Schlumberger and JHK Oilfield Products. This has helped him provide design and engineering solutions to oilfields in over 35 countries.

JHK ALL-CAST CROSS COUPLING CABLE PROTECTORS• Extensively used to protect ESP cables, encapsulated, bare control and chemical injection lines.

• All-cast designs complete with all-cast collars are the preferred product in the market niche.

PRODUCT FEATURESDesigned for minimal installation and maximum efficiency

• Designed to protect the cable or control line across the coupling from potential damage, wear and tear encountered in completion operations and dynamic motion of the production tubing in the well bore.

• Support 100ft or 30 lbs. minimum of cable and control line without slippage. The proven design is such that it only supports the cable and never physically grips it, which would induce damage.

• Provides sufficient standoff to protect the cable between couplings and eliminates armour and insulation abrasion.

• Fully retrievable and have proven to be reusable products. They are simple and inexpensive to refurbish.

MECHANICAL AND COMPOSITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

MECHANICAL PROPERTIESTensile strength, yield strength and elongation values for the castings shall conform to the values specifiedin the standards quoted above. The maximum hardness value shall be HRC 25 in accordance with NACE MR-0175.

COMPOSITIONAL PROPERTIESChemical analysis values for the castings and fasteners shall be in accordance with the standards quoted above.

WELDING REQUIREMENTSNo structural weld repair on the castings is permitted.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR MATERIAL SELECTION

STANDARD METALLURGY • Protectors are manufactured from Cast Steel to BS3100 Grade A2 standards.

• Bolts, barrels and hinge pins are manufactured from alloy steel to ASTM A193 Grade B7M or BS970 H40 standards.

• Washers are manufactured from Stainless Steel to BS3100 Grade B4 standards.

CORROSION RESISTANT METALLURGY

• Protectors are manufactured from Cast Steel to BS3100 Grade 316 C12 standards.

• Bolts, barrels and hinge pins are manufactured from Stainless Steel to BS1506 Grade 410S21-760 standards.

• Washers are manufactured from Stainless Steel to BS3100 Grade 420C29 standards.

DESIGN AND TESTING

JHK employ AutoCAD and SolidWorks design software to create solutions for most well completions. Test criteria include:

• Radiography of the castings to ASTM E446• MPI testing when required• Dimensional inspection • Assembly trials• Drift testing• Visual inspection• Cable and Control line slippage testing

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The cable protector is constructed to withstand the following loads when correctly installed on the tubing:

Rotational Slippage Load - 4 TonnesLateral Load - 25 Tonnes Axial Slippage Load - 25 TonnesCable Grip - Equivalent to 100ft of cableControl Line Grip - 30 lbs

The above load capabilities have been established by the results of extensive tests conducted on typical cross coupling cable protectors.
