History of Rizal Province

- Morong was once a part of Manila province until there are debates if Morong was self-sufficient to separate from Manila. Morong was then separated and was called Morong province, but later on change its name into Rizal province in honor of our national hero, Jose Rizal in 1901.

Overview of Rizal

∙ - Rizal, is a province in the Philippines located in the northern-central section of the Calabarzon in Luzon. The province is bordered on the north by Bulacan, east by Quezon, southeast by Laguna, south by the Laguna De Bay, and west by Metro Manila

∙ - Its geographical area covers a total of 1,191.94 square kilometres (460.21 sq mi) and has 14 towns.

Socio-Cultural∙-Tagalog is the main language that is spoken in this province.∙- Majority of the population practice Roman Catholicism and many towns in Rizal have centuries-old Spanish churches. A notable church is the Antipolo Cathedral in Antipolo City.

- National Artists like Carlos "Botong" Francisco and the noted artist Lucio D. San Pedro were the artistic gift of the Rizaleños, it is a major factor why various investible and bankable industries ranging from micro-cottage to large-scale and heavy manufacturing industries proliferate in the area.- The province is also known for different cultures and traditions such as, “Higantes Festival” in Angono, in which they use giants clothed like that of the fishermen.

Socio-Economic

- In a study recently conducted by the National Statistics Coordination Board (NSCB), Rizal province came out to be the Philippines' least poor province with a poverty incidence rate of 3.4%, even lower than that of the National Capital Region or Metro Manila. - Antipolo, the province's capital city, is the center of trade and exchange, tourism, government and economy. It is also a center of education and sports because of the availability of various educational and physical training facilities. Acclaimed of its scenic attractions, the city also produces agricultural products such as cashew nuts and rice cakes.

∙- Taytay, the province's center of garment and textile manufacturing, is also the town where the country's largest mall operator runs a store near the town center.- Meanwhile, Cainta serves as the center of business-process outsourcing (BPO) businesses in the province, aside from being known for the presence of several shopping centers and delicacies such as bibingka or rice cakes.

∙- The DPWH did a bridge project costing P60 Million that aims to cope with present vehicular traffic demand along Daang Maharlika in the province of Quezon is now completed ahead of its target date on January 11, 2015. - The improvement of the access road also provided better opportunities to the roads and bridges in the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Quezon, and Rizal.

∙- The upgrading of Sumulong Highway leading to Antipolo City and maintenance works at Manila East Road at Cardona-Baras area in Rizal Province provided smoother land travel for the travelling public.∙-With what the province offers to people, a lot of tourists go and visit the place. The province can also now accommodate more visitors.

Environmental (Positive)

∙–The Rizal provincial government and the 14 local government units launched the Ynares Eco System (YES) to Green Program to help address environmental issues in the province such as deforestation, waste management and clogged waterways among a few. - Fun runs such as mentioned previously are being held to raise knowledge, awaireness and funds for the local governement in taking care of the Rizal province's destinations. ( ex. Nature's Trail Discovery Fun Run - Tanay, Rizal)

Rizal is known for its Falls and Caves like Daranak Falls, Tres Escalon Falls, Calinawan Cave, etc.

Environmental (Negative)

∙- One blogger observed how crowded Daranak Falls is in Tanay Rizal. He adds that many tourists left garbages and plastic bags anywhere and that there are not enough officials handling and warning the tourists. Also, there are no enough trash bins in the area. - Tres Escalon Falls, a main tourist attraction in Taytay Rizal, received complaints from some of the visitors about the garbages and trash left by Tourists near the area. - While in Batlag Falls in Tanay, Rizal, a blogger also saw cigarettes, platsics wraps and bevergae bottles left by a TV crew covering the destination and was scattered near the falls.
