What is GRE?

Designed to measure the scholastic potential of the candidates and not the subject knowledge

Evaluates applicants from different backgrounds on a common yardstick.

Graduate Record Examination is an online adaptive test for students wishing to pursue higher education in the U.S (Masters and Doctoral programs)

Some universities also consider GRE scores for admission into MBA programs.

This is why GRE is an important criteria used by university admission panels for granting admissions. A high GRE score also helps in securing financial aid.

CGPA/Percentage, Academic Achievements

GRE Score

Your GRE score gets a weightage of about 50%

Admission panels usually give 25-30 % weightage to this

Statement of Purpose (SOP) and Recommendations

Remaining 20 – 25 % depend on these factors

Do remember that if your CGPA is low, GRE is a good chance to strengthen your case.

Did you think GRE directly enables you admission to universities? www.GREedge.com

Revised GRE test takers speak

Aurodeep Ghosh - "I took a mock test on GREedge yesterday and today

my exam was just like another mock test"

“I had a good experience taking the revised GRE

on August 1st. It was easier than expected,

however RC passages were long and confusing.

Online calculator is easy to use and the ability to

skip questions and answer later is very helpful.”

Praveen Ravi – “RC passages were long and time taking; TC and SE questions

had tricky sentences. Knowledge of sentence structure is tested and not words”

Keerthi D – “Quant was similar to old pattern but there were some new questions in

coordinate geometry that were difficult. I barely managed to complete the verbal

section in time. Online calculator was very helpful”

Revised GRE test takers speak

Binesh Nair - “Powerprep tests and GREedge tests were very similar"

“Online calculator is hardly needed as you can do most of the calculations

mentally, however it was good to have the calculator.

Learning all 3500 words or even most of them is important otherwise

answering TC and SE questions is very difficult. Practicing online helped

me a lot and I found GREedge tests to be the same as Powerprep tests”

Abbas – “I found verbal section to be difficult, especially triple blank TC questions

with multiple answers and RC passages. I got the sections alternatively i.e. AWA

first, followed by quant-1, verbal-1, quant-2 and then verbal-2.

In quant, I found Modulus and Functions based questions to be difficult. Did not

expect questions from normal distribution and standard deviation”

How to prepare effectively for NEW GRE

Start preparing at least 4 or 5 months ahead of the test.

Begin early on areas that you are weak in.

You need to be well-prepared in all the 3 sections.

Do not ignore any topic, or question type.

Since the GRE is an online, adaptive exam many students prefer online training, as it provides –

Real time experience of the GRE exam

Understanding of how an online, adaptive exam works

Practice for time management

Learning at one’s convenience – anytime, anywhere
