ALDEC G2Smart Decanter
Shifting the benchmarksThe innovative Alfa Laval ALDEC G2 decanter centrifugedesign has shifted the accepted benchmarks for dewateringperformance, providing an improvement of as much as 30%compared with previous generations of decanter centrifuges.
This complete range features a compact, modular designwith all critical parts made of wear-resistant materials. Theresult is reliable, continuous operation and easy, trouble-freeprocess control.
Easy to operate, easy to get resultsThe outstanding features of the ALDEC G2 design make iteasy to accomplish a wide range of performance targets.
• More sludge treated, more efficiently• Greater processing capacity for any given equipment footprint• Better process control• High level of protection against erosion• Low maintenance costs• Low energy consumption• Low life cycle costs• Major savings on sludge disposal
Enhancement packagesIn some cases, the economics of sludge treatment operationcan require the addition of one or more special Alfa Lavalenhancement packages. You can select between:• enhanced dewatering package – achieve even greater cakedryness and lower sludge disposal costs.
• enhanced wear protection package – maintenance costscan be reduced still further by selecting more wear resistantmaterials. This in turn extends service intervals.
• enhanced serviceability package – features that save youtime by making both operation and maintenance easier.
• enhanced control packages – add-on control systems thatprovide additional functionality and varying degrees ofautomation.

Working principleSeparation takes place in a horizontal cylindrical bowlequipped with a screw conveyor. The feed enters the bowlthrough a stationary inlet tube and is accelerated smoothly byan inlet rotor. Centrifugal forces cause sedimentation of thesolids on the wall of the bowl. The conveyor rotates in thesame direction as the bowl, but at a different speed, thusmoving the solids towards the conical end of the bowl.
The ALDEC G2 design enables the hydraulic pressure insidethe bowl to enhance scrolling through a narrow opening. Thismeans that only the very driest fraction of the sludge cakeleaves the bowl through the solids discharge openings intothe casing. Separation takes place along the total length ofthe cylindrical part of the bowl, and the clarified liquid leavesthe bowl by flowing over adjustable plate dams into the cas-ing.
Process optimizationThe ALDEC G2 decanter centrifuge can be adjusted to suitspecific requirements by varying• the bowl speed to ensure the exact G force required for themost efficient separation.
• the conveying speed for the best possible balance betweenliquid clarity and solids dryness.
• the pond depth in the bowl for the best possible balancebetween liquid clarity and solids dryness.
• the feed rate – the ALDEC G2 is designed to handle a widerange of flow rates.
DesignAlfa Laval designed the ALDEC G2 decanter centrifuge with afocus on performance, easy access, reliability and low noiselevels. The rotating assembly is supported on a compactwelded box beam frame with main bearings at both ends. The in-line main motor is flange- or foot mounted onto theunit with adjustable brackets for belt tension adjustment. Thebowl is driven at the conical end by an electric motor with aV-belt transmission. The bowl, conveyor, casing, inlet tube, outlets and other partsin contact with the process media are made of AISI 316 andduplex stainless steel.
Direct driveThe drive system that is an integral part of the ALDEC G2design was specially developed by Alfa Laval to make it pos-sible to control the conveying speed automatically. Thisensures the best possible balance between liquid clarity andsolids dryness, irrespective of any variations in the feed flowthat may occur.

The Direct Drive system comprises an exceptionally efficientgearbox and variable frequency drive, which together avoidexposing the bowl drive to parasitic braking power. It alsosimplifies the electrical installation and keeps power con-sumption and CO2 emissions to the absolute minimum. In addition, the Direct Drive is capable of accurate controlwithin the complete range of differentials, with no need forchanging belts or pulleys.
Control systemsAlfa Laval provides a wide selection of control solutions foruse with the ALDEC G2 decanter centrifuges, ranging frombasic starter panels to completely automated dewateringcontrol systems.
Each ALDEC G2 unit is equipped with the G2 Core Controlleras standard. The G2 Core Controller controls the actions ofthe Direct Drive so that its running conditions correspondexactly to the solids load in the bowl. The G2 Core Controlleralso monitors a wide range of parameters related to the run-ning of the decanter centrifuge in order to ensure easy, safeand reliable operation – even when performing at maximumlevels. Operating staff have full access to process, mainte-nance and historical information via a colour screen.Additional performance-enhancing packages are also avail-able for the control systems. These range from extensiveprocess optimization using the Octopus system for devicemanagement to the Cosmos predictive maintenance systemfor in-depth analyses of maintenance needs, designed to pre-vent any potential breakdowns.
