BE A LEARNER.

344 Keen St, Lismore, NSW, 2480 P 02 66213259 E [email protected]

Welcome to all our Kindergarten students who started this week. They have settled in well and are enjoying their first week of school.

Below are 4 simple strategies and tips to make the transition back to school easier: 1.Create a routine It is easy to fall out of routine over the holiday period and develop some bad habits. Reintroduce a good diet with lots of water to help improve energy levels, concentration and emotional well-being. Maintain proper sleep patterns that may have been disrupted over the holidays. Have a regular time for bed and make sure computers, mobile phones and other electronic devices are switched off and out of the bedroom. 2. Take time to talk about the feelings that could come up. If you have a child that is prone to anxiety the more discussion you have on how they are feeling and strategies to control those feelings the easier the transition back to school will be. Talk with children about positive experiences they may have had in the past at school. Remind them they will see old friends and meet new ones. 3. Check your own anxiety It is natural for the start of the school year to be stressful period for parent as well. Parents sometimes need to recognise that their own fears might be preventing their children from engaging in age appropriate activities or tasks. If we want our kids to be willing to try new things and to persist when they experience difficulties, we need to encourage effort, build confidence and convince our kids that ‘if at first they don’t succeed to try and try again’. 4. Plan, plan, plan Start the school year out as you plan to proceed! It is good to start the year with some realistic, achievable goals for children to achieve on the first day, the first week and going forward. Ticking off these goals will start your child off with confidence.

Home Reading Home reading will begin in all classes within the next couple of weeks. Reading is the single most powerful way you can help your child. Please take a couple of minutes each night to listen to your child read and sign their home reading card.

Reading develops your child’s brain, provides a window into the world around them and helps them do better in all subjects at school. It is

one of the most important ingredients in your child becoming all that they can be.

Parent Information Evening – Next Wednesday

We will be holding our Parent/ Teacher Sausage Sizzle next

Wednesday. This is an opportunity for parents to get to know their child’s teacher and

for the teachers to talk about what the children will be learning

throughout the year. It is also an opportunity to discuss any events that might be planned, like excursions or

carnivals. Please come along and join us for a sausage at 5.15pm and then visit the teachers

and classrooms at the following times
