Foreword

Air Quality – an indicator

for modern building concepts

The quality of the supplied air to each

room as well as the energy efficiency

of the air-handling-system is the

crucial factor of success for modern

building concepts. The air quality is

very important for spaces and rooms

where people working in, but also of

high importance concerning produc-

tion, manufacturing and process

engineering. The quality of air is not

just a “soft factor” as a mat ter of

wellness. The quality of air has been

proved to be a very hard economical

factor. Moreover, better quality of

the supplied air in buildings leads to

enhanced productivity. A pro-activeinfluence and control of air quality is

a very urgent task to be solved regard-

ing air-conditioning in buildings. With

an adequate air-quality-control-unit

a very high standard of energy effi-

ciency can be achieved. That way, for

those who are using an air-quality-

control-unit in combination with an

efficient air-handling-system the eco-

logical benefit, but especially the

economical profit, will be excellent.

Even though we spend more than

80 % of our life-time in buildings,

there still isn’t paid enough atten-

tion to the supplied air quality. Up

till now, constant ventilation or CO2

sensors were used as an indicator of

air quality, with dissatisfying results.

Neither a better air quality could be

reached nor could less energy de-

mand be achieved. The concentra-

tion of carbon oxide in the room as

an indicator is improper, because

the emissions and smells caused by

varnish, carpets or furniture are not

taken into consideration.

the actual air quality. The AirQualitizer

realizes an ondemand air-flow-volu-

me management, which is based on

the actual needs of the user and staff.

Measuring reality!

Our special sensor-technology called

“LUQAS” detects and evaluates all

encumbering emissions and smells –

contrary to normal CO2 – sensors, which

only are able to detect CO2 – emissions.

The detection of emissions and evalua-

tion of air quality has been monitored

and proven by the scientific institute

“Steinbeis transfer-center sensor-tech-

nology and new technologies”.

The signals generated by “LUQAS” will

be transmitted via BUS-technology to

the air-handling-unit. By adjustment of

the air-condition and the air-volume, an

individual demanded air quality will be

created.

Within extensive tests it has been ascer-

tained that “LUQAS” nearly detects and

evaluates like the human perception.

The AirQualitizer – quality manager

and financial optimizer

With the AirQualitizer the staff and

users are able to customize their air

quality and their comfort. A better quali-

ty of air enhances motivation and

productivity. More productivity incre-

ases the economical success.

The AirQualitizer adjusts the air-flow-

volume according to the actual demand

in every room. That way, the AirQualiti-

zer reduces energy costs for air-condi-

tioning significantly and once more

increases the economical return.

Decreasing energy costs!

The adjustment of air-flow-volumes by

on-demand is the key to manage your

energy costs.

The power consumption of the entire

ventilation system will be reduced by

minimizing the pressure-losses within

the entire air-handling-system based

on reduction of air-flow-velocity.

Besides operation times and individual

requirements, the basis to minimize

energy costs is an energeti-

cally optimized air-handling-

system evaluated by a

“Life-Cycle-Costs-analysis”

(LCC). Every part

should be aerody-namically optimized.

Moreover, heat-

recovery units,

heating and cooling units as well as

pumps and flow control units should

operate with the highest mode of

efficiency possible.

The most decisive criteria will be the

efficient interaction within the entire

air-handling-system. An evaluation of

Adjusting air-flow-volume!

The AL-KO AirQualitizer communicates

via building-automation-system with

the air-handling-unit on basis of evalua-

tion of air quality. Air-flow-volumes and

temperature can be affected by the staff

and all users anytime directly in every

room with the AirQualitizer.

The management of mode presence/

absence and loadings allows to supply

rooms with less people with a reduced

and adjusted air-flow-volume. The ther-

mal energy that will be saved can be

supplied to rooms with more presence

of people and higher demand of air-con-

ditioning. The AirQualitizer assures a

customized allocation of air-flow-volumes

within the entire building at exactly the

same or even a lot less energy demand.

With the management of air-flow-volu-

mes by the AirQualitizer in combination

with a life-cycle-costs-optimized air-

handling-unit the entire costs for air-con-

ditioning will be reduced about 70 %.
