NEC-2 programmer.

MANUAL.

1. The NEC-2 programmer’s main functions are testing, erasing and programming of NEC processors

inside the Mercedes Benz electronic smart keys.

2. The programmer work with NEC processors by two ways:

A. PCB – programming with soldering of NEC processor on to the special board adapter.

B. IR (Infra Red) – programming via IR port of NEC-2 programmer.

3. The programmer works with keys old type (Motorola processor inside) only via IR port.

4. The programmer can erase, write, test the NEC processors via PCB, and test and write them via IR

port. You can write only preprogrammed key via IR!

5. You can preprogram NEC processor via PCB with NEC-2 programmer. Preprogramming of Motorola

processor is possible with any programmer supports the function.

TEST OF THE KEY (OR KEY’S PROCESSOR’S TEST).

1. Via IR port:

а. Mark IR port by tick.

b. Insert the key into the IR port of the programmer.

c. Press READ.

2. Via PCB (for NEC only)!

а. Erase all ticks.

b. Solder the NEC processor on the adapter board and connect it to the programmer.

c. Press READ.

3. The information descriptions.

а. "Key" - key’s number.

"Serial" - the SSID - Serial System Identification

Data - 4 bytes which identify the synchronization of the EIS and the key.

"Status" – two bytes (the NEG algorithm is binding them) – there are 8 bits, every of them has own

function in the key’s operation.

Some examples:

14 EC – normal key

04 FC – bit 4 says that the key synchronized to the EIS.

21 DF – ready for programming via IR.

01 FF – bit 5 shows us the coding mode.

"Counts" – Counters in the units. They organize internal calculation of Hash function. This volume says

about the number of engine starts in rest and every turning ignition On makes this volume less on one digit.

"Life" - The number of starts in rest.

"Ver.Soft"- the processor’s ROM software number.

"Remark" - 6 bytes of information you can write down to processor. These bytes don’t take part in key

operation. You can place any information there.

4. If you see the information in every windows it means the key work normal.

But there are some modes of key’s operation when the key doesn’t give any information in some

windows. This key doesn’t work normal and you need to program it. If the key’s hardware or processor are

damaged you don’t see any information in all windows.

5. To place your information into “Remark” write the digits or letters in HEX and press WR REMARK.

6. "DEC COUNT" – if you press this button you emulate the inserting of the key into the EIS.

The EIS and the key will change the information between them and COUNTS will be less by one digit.

THE ERASING OF NEC PROCESSOR. PREPROGRAMMING THE PROCESSOR TO THE IR WRITING.

1. The first indication of erased processor is a discordance between two bytes of STATUS. The first byte of status must be equal to the NEG of the second byte. 1st byte + 2nd byte = 00. In this course the processor doesn’t work like key’s processor. It just waits programming. Programming is writing of eeprom. You can do it with any ways. Let’s explane two of them:

а. For Motorola processors write 00 into the all eeprom. Status of such processor will be 00 00. You can

read it with our programmer.

b. For NEC processors: Solder the NEC processor out from the key. Place it on the PCB adapter board and

solder in. Insert the PCB adapter into the programmer. Erase all ticks. Then mark only one tick “Erase Only”.

Press PROGRAM. It can take 1-3 seconds. Status will be 21 DF. You can read it at once.

KEY OR PROCESSOR PROGRAMMING.

1. If you write wrong dates into the processor via IR you have to solder out the processor ones again. So

it is better to program the processor at ones after erasing via PCB.

2. The Motorola keys programming. IR port programming.

а. Press "Load" and choose the variant of eeprom you need to open file.

b. Insert the key into the IR port of the programmer.

c. Erase all ticks. Mark only one tick "Big Fish".

d. Press PROGRAM.

e. Wait about 10 seconds. You will see the report on the bottom of the window.

3. The NEC processor programming via IR port.

а. Press "Load" and choose the variant of eeprom you need to open file.

b. Insert the key into the IR port of the programmer.

c. Erase all ticks. Mark only one tick "IR".

d. Press PROGRAM.

e. Wait about 10 seconds. You will see the report on the bottom of the window.

4. The NEC processor programming via PCB.

а. Solder the NEC processor out from the key. Place it on the PCB adapter board and solder in. Insert

the PCB adapter into the programmer.

b. Press "Load" and choose the variant of eeprom you need to open file.

c. Erase all ticks.

d. Press PROGRAM.

e. Wait about 10-15 seconds. You will see the report on the bottom of the window.

PS If you write MOTOROLA key you don’t need to know which processor is inside. You must indicate only

eeprom format correctly.

When you load the dump you see some information in PROGRAMMING DATA window. You can check

results.
