    INTRODUCTION

    The committee on labour welfare(CLW),formed in 1969 to review the labour 

    welfare scheme, described it as social security measures that contributed to improve

    the conditions under which worers are employed in !ndia"

    !n a resolution in 19#$, The !L% defined labour welfare as &such services,

    facilities and amenities as ade'uate canteens, rest and recreation facilities,

    arranements for travel to and from wor and for the accommodation of worers

    employed at a distance from their houses, and such other services, amenities and

    facilities as contributed to improve the conditions under which worers are

    employed"

    Labor welfare is an important facet of industrial relations, the etra

    dimension, ivin satisfaction to the worers in a way which even a ood wae

    cannot" With the rowth of industriali*ation, it has ac'uired added importance"

      Welfare includes anythin that is done for the comfort and improvement of 

    employees and is provided over and above the waes" Welfare helps in eepin the

    morale and motivation of the employees hih so as to retain the employees for loner 

    duration" The welfare measures need not be in monetary terms only but in any

    ind+forms" mployee welfare includes monitorin of worin conditions, creation

    of industrial harmony throuh infrastructure for health, industrial relations and

    MEANING OF THE STUDY

      The term &Labour welfare- comprises of two words labour and welfare" The

    word .Labour/ means any productive activity and the word .Welfare means the state

    of livin of an individual+roup in a desirable relationship with total environment0

    ecoloical, economical and social"

    Labour welfare entails all those activities of the employers which are directed

    towards providin the employees with certain facilitative services to maintain the

    morale of the worers to ultimately achieve the obectives of the orani*ation"

    Labour welfare has become essential because of the very nature of the industrial

    system" The approach to this problem or movement differs from country to

    country, accordin to the deree of development in a particular country" ;owever,

    the need for labour welfare in some way or the other is reali*ed all over world

     because of socio0economic conditions and problems which the industrial society

    has thrown up" Welfare activities are playin an important role in the industrial relations and
