What you will study onour BEng(Hons)

BEng with Honours inAircraft Engineering Our Aircraft Engineering BEng (Hons) was devised in close consultation with the aviation industry. The content of the degree includes aspects of the EASA syllabus for aircraft maintenance Certifying Staff. In addition, the knowledge and skills accumulated in this program are highly transferable to many other business sectors.

Approaches to learningand teachingA comprehensive blend of learning and teaching approaches appropriate to studying aircraft engineering at degree level are used to deliver this programme.

You will be involved in lectures, seminars, tutorials, investigative and analytical assignments, laboratory testing, practical investigations, workshop skills development, project work and industrial visits as well as use of a virtual learning environment to support students development on a 24/7 basis. These approaches ensure that graduates are highly capable independent learners with the analytical and evaluative skills required to be successful in a modern aviation business.

AssessmentA wide range of assessment methods are used to accurately measure a student’s knowledge, understanding, skills and abilities across every aspect of the programme. This includes the use of examinations, laboratory exercises and associated reports, case study reports, investigative assignments, project work and presentations. Furthermore, throughout Years 2, 3 and 4, students have opportunities (outside of, and in addition to, the main academic curriculum) to sit EASA Module examinations to work towards completion of the full knowledge requirement of the EASA license for Certifying Staff.

Professional recognitionThis degree has been accredited by the Royal Aeronautical Society as providing students with some or all of the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for eventual registration as an Incorporated (IEng). Some employers recruit preferentially from accredited degrees, and an accredited degree is likely to be recognised by other countries.
