Holidays are a busy time of the year with shopping, company, and cooking. Chances are you won't be thinking about your air conditioner unless it breaks down. What's worse is your unit dies right in the middle of cooking a huge meal with a house full of guests. Before that party, you should always have your

AC looked at and repaired. Here are a few signs that your air conditioning may be on the "fritz".

• High Electric Bills• Weird Sounds• Moisture and Ice• Unusual Odors• Thermostat Problems• Poor Airflow or No Cold Air

If your electric bill has spiked recently, you may want to consider having a professional look at your AC. Start by doing some investigation by listening to your air conditioning unit.

If the unit is making unusual sounds like gurgling, squealing, banging, etc., these could be signs that the system has loose or broken parts. AC Systems should run quietly. Next you'll want to check for moisture and ice.

Look at the unit and the walls next to the unit. If there is ice forming or you see water or moisture nearby, on the floors or walls then you could have an issue. Moisture can lead to mold, so it's best to handle this problem immediately to ensure the best health. If you see condensation, this could mean that

the something is blocked or broken. Black mold is harsh, smells bad and can cause risk for people with allergies.

There may be an unusual odor coming from the unit that can be from mold. If your air ducts are giving off a musty smell, then changing or cleaning your air ducts may be necessary. Mold forms inside of air ducts and will give you a clue that there could be more serious problems later.

If you have complication with your thermostat, you're getting a sign that your AC is having trouble too. Uneven temperatures in the home are a good sign that the thermostat is old or needs repair.

Poor airflow or no cold air blowing are also signs that the unit is in need of replacing or fixing. The compressor is sometimes a culprit, and you won't want to deal with that during a time when your home is full of festivities and joy.
