The Non Disclosure Agreement abbrevi-ated as NDA was a common term heard during the entire AIPGMEE

2014 exams. The candidates while registering for the AIPGMEE 2015 get covered by NDA. At par the NDA, the candidates are prohibited to disclose any question or contents of the question paper in part or other ways with any person, party and website or with any media publication. Moreover it is given that anyone found breaching the agreement shall be liable for penal action against him/her. Not only this, it may lead to the cancellation of the candidature too.

The following was seen emphasized in a notice on the National Board of Examination’s official website- “The AIPGMEE is a proprietary examination and is conducted by National Board of Examinations. The contents of this test are confidential, propriety and are owned by National Board of Examinations. NBE explicitly prohibits the candidates from publishing, reproducing or transmit-ting any or some contents of this test, in whole or in part, in any form or by any means or verbal or written, electronic or mechanical or for any purpose. Violation of any act or breach of the same shall be liable for penal action and cancellation of candidature at the bare threshold.”

What effect did NDA make?As per the NBE notification, there is the provision of penalty for breach or violation of NDA, the students as well as the preparing institutes were seen hesitating on providing any information related to the AIPGMEE 2014 exam. The agreement kept the test takers at bay to divulge any kind of information regarding the exam. However, some of general information was gathered from both the aspirants as well as the coaching institutes and their inputs are presented below-

AIPGMEE 2014 Exam: The Different PerspectivesThis part comprises some of the questions which were replied by the AIPGMEE 2014 aspirants as well as the coaching institutes.

Q. How was the paper pattern of this year different from the last year? While the coaching institutes replied the following - Students are bound of NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) given by Natboard. So we don’t know the nature of questions asked in AIPGMEE 2014. The AIPGMEE 2014 aspirants told that the paper was a bit tough than the last year as this year.

Q. Among the three sections-Clinical, Pre-Clinical and Para-Clinical; which one was the toughest?Replying to this question, both of the groups seemed to agree at the point that the current trend is that Pre-Clinical and Para Clinical are given more importance than the Clinical subjects. Thereby the questions are asked from the Pre-Clinical and Para-Clinical are the tough than those asked from the Clinical subjects.

Q. What were the surprising elements in AIPGMEE 2014? The following question too found a consensus reply that the Natboard always surprises PG aspi-rants. Picture based clinical scenarios is a welcome move in PGMEE exams.

Q. It is seen that no negative marking system is followed in AIPGMEE 2014. How is it possible that the candidates have their marks in decimals? What are the reasons behind it?The question did not get satisfying reply. Neither the coaching institutes nor the students could reply regarding the marks in decimals. While the students were unaware of the decimal marking system, the coaching institutes responded that most of the competitive exams come with negative marks. But it is little strange that AIPGMEE scores came in decimals even if the exam carries no negative marking. Moreover the tie-breaker criteria for AIPGMEE 2014 are based on the age of an aspirant. (Inter se merit will be determined according to age, older will get preference over younger).

In addition to the above response, the coaching institutes also commented that Prometric follows a unique system which is very much unpredictable. None of the aspirants have an idea about IRT theory and other standardization techniques.

Q. Time management always plays a crucial role in each and every exam. What is your view-point in the purview of AIPGMEE 2014? How shall one divide the time with such a large number of questions? Please throw some more light regarding it.The question fetched different answers from the two groups. The students replied on their own perspective, the coaching institutes replied on an advisable track. The coaching institutes calculated that 3 hours and 30 minutes was sufficient to attempt 300 questions. In one hour, 100 questions can be attempted and the last 30 minutes can be utilized revision.

But the test takers commented that the paper was time consuming. Some of them said that at least half an hour more was required for revision. Therefore both the groups had their own respective take and could be considered right at their place.

Q. Every exam has some set of new questions and some questions are repeated. What was the ratio between these two if we talk about AIPGMEE 2014?Again the question was responded differently. The coaching institutes did not want to reply anything on the very query and said, “We cannot discuss anything as students are bound by NDA (Non Disclosure agreement) provided by NATBOARD.” The AIPGMEE 2014 aspirants gave an over-view that only 10% of the questions were repeated.

Therefore we get to know that indeed the NBE utilizing NDA as a handy tool has put an effective pressure on the aspirants and coaching institutes not to disclose anything regarding any question or any part of it in any manner, which may serve the purpose it has been laid for.

In an exclusive interview, Founder Director of Delhi Academy of Medical Sciences, Dr Sumer Sethi shares tips on how to prepare

for AIPGME 2015. Dr Sethi was himself a top-per in AIPGMEE, AIIMS and PGI and is a known mentor amongst students.

Careers360: What should be the strategy and focus area of the aspirants?Dr. Sumer Sethi: The focus should be on con-cepts and one should have a thorough knowl-edge of facts. Very few repeat questions are being asked and traditional approach of reading ten year papers will not work. In addition this paper is being conducted by National Board of Examination (NBE) while in past it was con-ducted by AIIMS. And exam pattern by NBE has more one liners and visual based questions. Particularly in subjects like radiology, derma-tology, pathology, this is a new change which was evident in AIPGMEE 2014.

Careers360: What are the books that you highly recommend for the AIPGMEE 2015 preparation?Dr Sumer Sethi: Routine textbooks would be more useful than so called guide books as very few questions are being repeated in these exams. In DAMS, we recommend comprehen-sive brush up of the entire subject in contrast to just mugging up the repeats.

Careers360: With AIPGMEE is online from last year, what difference has it made in the overall AIPGMEE 2015 preparation strategy or in any other way?Dr. Sumer Sethi: This year AIPGMEE 2015 exam will have 300 questions in contrast to NEET which had 240 MCQ and this would be one of the key differences. Online exam is a positive step forward and it ensures the fairness of exam. Students have to be computer friend-ly, and should practice giving long session CBTs to be confident in this pattern. CBT is way forward and almost all exams globally are now conducted on computers and it is good that our examiners have started this in India.

Careers360: Which are the other major post-graduate medical exams that you would advice students to take this year?Dr. Sumer Sethi: I will recommend all medical students to appear for AIIMS, PGI, and AIPGMEE exams. States using AIPGMEE results for their 50 percent quota are Haryana, Punjab, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Delhi - University of Delhi. Kerala, Karnataka, Hiamachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, so there will not be separate state PG exams for these states and for other states, students will have to appear for their state based exams as well.

Careers360: Few golden tips you would like to share with the aspirants of AIPGMEE 2015.Dr Sumer Sethi: Make sure that you revise your notes and books in last days of prepara-tion. To get comfortable with CBT pattern aspi-rants must take mock tests regularly.
