3. Open the trunk lid, remove the trunk floor mat andthe trunk floor board.

4. Remove the weatherstrip from the edge of thetrunk opening in the area shown.

5. Remove the rear trim panel by removing the fourclips and releasing the three hooks.
INSTALLATION
Customer information: The information in thisinstallation instruction is intended for use only byskilled technicians who have the proper tools,equipment, and training to correctly and safely addequipment to your vehicle. These procedures shouldnot be attempted by “do-it-yourselfers.”
1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for theradio, then write down the radio station presets.
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

6. Continue removing the weatherstrip in the areashown, remove the three clips, then pull out on theright trunk side trim panel in the direction shown.
8. Inside the passenger’s compartment, remove therear seat cushion by removing the bolt andreleasing the two hooks.
7. Remove the five clips that secure the trunk fronttrim panel. Take care not to damage the clips.
9. Remove the two bolts that fasten the rear seat-back, and pull the rear seat-back up to release thethree hooks. Remove the rear seat-back.

10. Pry up on the six retaining tabs, and remove theB-pillar lower trim panel.
12. Pull up on the parking brake lever, then removethe console box (nine clips).

11. Remove the four clips, release the two retainingtabs that fasten the right seat side trim, andremove the trim. Take care not to damage theclips.
13. Remove the two self-tapping screws, two screws,and two clips that fasten the center console, andremove the console:
• Place the shift lever in the Neutral position.
• On M/T model, remove the shift knob from thelever by pulling the plastic section, above theboot, down firmly with one hand and turning theknob counterclockwise with your other hand.
• If equipped with an optional armrest, removethe console after reclining the seat-back.
Press down on thecenter pin.

14. Remove the dashboard center lower cover:
Without a Cigarette Lighter and Ashtray
• With the parking brake applied, place the gearshift lever in the Neutral position.
• Gently pry out on the lower cover to releasethe six retaining clips.
• Unplug the accessory power socket connector,and remove the lower cover.
15. Remove the center panel:
• Remove the two bolts from the bottom of thecenter panel.
• Reach through the bottom opening, and pushout on center panel bracket to release the nineretaining clips.
• Unplug the five connectors and the antennalead, then remove the center panel.
With a Cigarette Lighter and Ashtray
• With the parking brake applied, place the gearshift lever in the Neutral position.
• Remove the ashtray.
• Inside the ashtray opening, remove the oneself-tapping screw securing the dashboardcenter lower cover.
• Gently pry out on the lower cover to releasethe five retaining clips.
• Unplug the cigarette lighter harness, andillumination bulb, then remove the lower cover.

Installing the CD Changer
16. Carefully unpack the CD changer. Remove thethree shipping clips, and discard the shippingcover. Save the shipping clips for your customerin case the unit needs to be serviced.
17. Install an adhesive seal (included in the CDChanger) over each of the three shipping clipholes.

19. Remove the adhesive backings from the “L” and“R” locking covers, and attach them to the sides ofthe CD changer. Align the two diagonally oppositeholes with the H and V positions.
20. Install the side brackets to the CD changer usingtwo 4 x 8 mm washer-screws for each side.
18. Visually check the position of the spring adjustingpins on both sides of the CD changer. If both ofthe spring adjusting pins are not in the horizontal(H) position, move the pins to the horizontalposition with a small flat-tip screwdriver.
21. Position the CD changer (with the side bracketsinstalled in step 20) on the CD changer bracket,and install a 6 mm flange nut on each of the fourstuds as shown.
22. Slide the clip nut onto the rear shelf through thehole in the shelf.

24. Position the CD changer bracket on the clip nutand battery duct, and install the two bolts you justremoved and one 6 x 16 mm washer-boltfurnished with CD changer attachment kit. Do nottighten the two bolts yet.
26. Secure the CD changer bus cable connectors, andthe Bus cable to the CD changer bracket with twowire ties in the areas shown.

27. Inside the trunk, route the bus cable over the IPCfan duct and into the cabin through the panel hole.
28. Secure the bus cable to the vehicle harness withone wire tie.
29. Remove the clip that secures the floor carpet, andturn the carpet over in the direction shown. Routethe bus cable under the floor carpet, then securethe cable to the vehicle harness with five wire tiesin the areas shown.
30. Route the bus cable forward under the parkingbrake lever base and to the right front consoleframe along the vehicle harness.
31. Clean the area where the EPT sealer will attachwith isopropyl alcohol. To protect the bus cable,attach the EPT sealer to the edge of the panelhole where the bus cable will contact it.
32. Route the bus cable connector through theclearance between the left front console frame andthe dashboard, and out through the dash opening.

33. Pull the vehicle harness 20-pin connector (blue)and the bus cable connector out through the dashopening; then secure them to the vehicle harnesswith one wire tie in the area shown.
35. Secure the bus cable to the vehicle harness withone wire tie; then make loops in the bus cable andsecure the loops with two wire ties as shown.

36. Reinstall the right trunk side trim panel removed instep 6.
37. Locate the two marks on the back of the trunkfront trim panel. Cut the panel along the markswith a utility knife.

39. Slide the trunk front trim panel into the clearancebetween the bracket and battery air duct, andalign the bolt holes in the battery duct and cutoutsin the trim panel made in step 37, as shown.
42. Plug the bus cable connector, the vehicle 20-pinconnector (blue), and the antenna lead into therear of the audio unit.
With a Radio and Pocket
38. Remove the two bolts temporarily installed to holdthe CD changer bracket in step 24, and lift thebracket away from the battery duct to allowclearance between the bracket and battery duct.
With a Radio and Cassette Player
40. Secure the CD changer bracket to the battery ductwith the two bolts removed in step 38.
41. Reinstall the trunk front trim panel.

43. Plug in the antenna lead and the blue 20-pinconnector, connect the four other vehicleconnectors to the center panel, and reinstall thecenter panel.
44. Check that all wire harnesses are routed properlyand all connectors are plugged in.
45. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
46. Reset the clock and the radio station presets.
47. Check the operation of the CD changer asdescribed in the Owner’s Manual supplied.
48. Check the operation of the accessory socket orcigarette lighter.
49. Reinstall all removed parts. Make sure that allretaining clips and tabs are securely fastened.
50. Put the CD changer Owner’s Manual and theshipping clips (removed in step 16) in the glovebox for your customer.
51. Do the ECM idle learn procedure:
– Make sure all electrical items are turned off.
– Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at3,000 rpm with no load (in Park or Neutral)until the radiator fan comes on.
– Let the engine idle for about 5 minutes with thethrottle fully closed and with all electrical itemsoff.
NOTE: When the radiator fan comes on do notinclude its running time in the 5 minutes.
NOTE: When the battery terminals are disconnected,“Remaining Capacity of the IMA Battery” is notindicated when the engine is started. It will resumeafter driving for about 30 minutes. At that time,“regeneration” will be lowered temporarily, but this isnormal.
