degrees- government can decide whether university colleges

should be permitted to confer doctoral or licentiate degrees

- some colleges have right in specific fields of study- both have right to award lower level degrees- degrees conferred by university college are equivalent

- "högskoleexamen“ after two years of study (120 ECTS)

- "kandidatexamen", or bachelor's degree, achievable after three years (180 ECTS)

- Second level:

- degree of master (one year) is limited to one-year study programmes only (60 ECTS)

- two-year master’s degree - degree of master (two years) (120 ECTS)

- Third level:

- students are eligible for a licentiate degree, "licentiatexamen", after two years of research (120 ECTS), and a doctorate, "doktorsexamen", after four years of research (240 ECTS)
