INTRODUCING EDUNATION

Edunation is revolutionizing the way to recruit international students to Finland. We gather together

the best universities in Finland under one website making it easier for students to apply. Our

application system is faster and more flexible compared to the traditional way to apply to Finnish

universities. We also offer our students connections to work life and internship opportunities.

Our agenda is to bring 150,000 paying degree students from non-EU/EEA countries to Finland by

2020.

WHY FINLAND

Finnish education is ranked high internationally, but there are also other areas that Finland ranks

well in. Clean air and green nature, safety, good standards of living, and we are also one of the

best non-native English speaking countries in the world. More than that, we are also quite

innovative.

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR STUDYING IN FINLAND

UNIVERSITY, UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, AND UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES

You might have noticed that in the Finnish higher education system, there are universities and universities of technology, and universities of applied sciences. The difference lies in the purpose and goal. For more research and academic-oriented purposes, students choose to study at a university or university of technology, depending on their chosen field. Studying at a university of applied sciences provides students with more practical oriented projects and connections to worklife. Needless to say, all are equally good.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT

Some universities require language certificate. The language certificate must be valid during the application period. The Pearson test of English, IELTS and TOEFL certificates are valid for two years. There are no limitations on the period of validity of the other certificates.

A TOEFL test score will only be accepted if it has been directly submitted from the TOEFL Educational Testing Service (ETS). Edunation’s TOEFL code is C046.

For IELTS and Cambridge English exams, please provide Edunation with the candidate’s ID number and secret number.

When moving to Finland, you are allowed to bring your family members with you. However, family members moving to Finland must have sufficient means of support in order to be issued a residence permit.

If your spouse applies for a residence permit on the basis of family reunification, he or she must have 700 euros per month, i.e. 8,400 euros per year, at his or her disposal. As a student, you need to have 560 euros per month, i.e. 6,720 euros per year, at your disposal. Together you are required to have 1,260 euros per month, i.e. 15,120 euros per year.

You can have the required sum of money on your own accounts or on your joint account. A family member who is moving to Finland together with you can apply for a residence permit at the same time with you or later.

More information can be found on the Finnish Immigration Service page Moving to Finland to be with a family member.

The required level of income is a bit higher for spouses of students than students. The income level requirement is based on how much money a person must have at his or her disposal in order to be able to finance his or her stay in Finland. The required income level is lower for students than for other applicants. It is based on the financial aid that Finnish students receive yearly.

Students must have 560 euros per month at their disposal, whereas their spouses are required to have 700 euros per month.
