The Blessing of Ruth By Bishop Masanje Banda

As a believer, be reminded that you’re in motion and the moment for shifting into God’s ordained direction is in sight

for you. Naomi was placed in a moment of bitterness in Moab, and decided to return to Israel where God had blessed His people. Prior to arriving at Moab, Naomi had a husband and two sons, but was heading back to Israel as a widow accompanied by another widow called Ruth. Be encouraged and know that your time to leave the camp of bitterness is now. You might look like others in distress; but as a child of God, you are not one of them.

Ruth made a pledge to follow Naomi anywhere. In the same manner; in order to have a spiritual encounter, you need spiritual eyes to move

by faith (rather than your natural eyes). Many Christians miss their opportunities because they live as rolling stones and fail to use their spiritual eyes. God is about to bring a divine encounter into your life. Stand firm and be a “Ruth” and declare that you will not let go until He fulfills His promise in your life. Naomi was a widow but Ruth needed the connection of God from her.

Naomi left Israel during a period of poverty, but returned (with Ruth) during a period of harvest. Do you feel like both widows because others are harvesting, yet you have no plot of farmland to call yours? Be reminded that it’s the Lord’s divine favor and anointing that will bring your harvest. When God says it’s your time, no one

Page 7: Agapeflash Magazine January 2015

can stop you. Naomi and Ruth watched others harvest, yet had no farm to call their own. With God on your side, the wind of harvest will blow in your direction because His words are never (and can never be) hindered. Your moment is now, and God will not delay His declared words upon your life.

Ruth requested to go out into the field and glean from the leftovers and oversight. Can you imagine how difficult it must have been for both widows who had just returned to Israel? Difficult as in, hoping to get some leftovers from other people’s harvest in the field. In life, the distance between you and your desired miracles can rely on someone so close by. It’s my prayer that God brings divine and destined helpers into your life.

Ruth was in a house of death with Naomi and chose to journey into the field to glean. I encourage you to do the same; step out of your house of poverty, barrenness, delays, disappointments, and embark on a journey to meet your Boaz. Divine providence shall walk you into the next level. There is a compass in the Spirit that directed Ruth to Boaz’s location. It’s my prayer that your feet become energized with the Holy Ghost, so that you keep walking until you meet your Boaz.

God met Ruth housed in a tight circumstance, and He directed her steps to meet Boaz. There is a divine encounter, as well as a “Boaz” waiting out there for you. When you meet your Boaz, your story and circumstances will change. In Ruth’s case, Boaz gave her a chance to glean among that which had already been gathered. To the sinner; God will give the power to gather, but as believers, you have the legal mandate to gather from what has already been gathered. Be reminded that the same anointing that was bestowed upon Ruth is available for you.

Boaz noticed Ruth in the field and the same would be your portion. Your time to gather is now, and God will make you get noticed. People will inquire about you because of His anointing upon your life. Ruth gathered from the field without being molested. By His anointing, those difficult circumstances will not molest you anymore.

By God’s anointing, harvest was purposely dropped so that there was enough for Ruth to pick. God will cause the reapers to drop favors on your behalf. Your time for a shift and divine encounter is now, and may this be a season of harvest for you. The reapers shall drop things to favor you. The anointing of God will break chains from your affairs, and you shall harvest under His Favor.

By the anointing of God, Ruth was not stopped from picking in the field. The word “stopped” is synonymous to road blocks and red lights which life offers. Just as an ambulance has the authority to break and disregard traffic regulations, I pray that God puts you in His spiritual ambulance destined for accomplishment of His purpose for your life. Every hindrance in your affairs will not deter you because you are harbored in God’s spiritual ambulance. Your enemies will be pulled over to the side of the road due to your (godly) approaching ambulance. By His anointing, you will never stop where ordinary men have.

By His anointing, Ruth was allowed to drink freely from the vessels. The blessings which Ruth received from God were manifested by her steps being ordained to meet Boaz. The opportunities provided to Ruth can also be yours through the authority of Christ. Thirst will no longer be your portion because God will quench it with spiritual water.

Your Boat Will Not Sink By Reverend Edmund Sackey-Brown

Jesus Christ ordered His disciples to get into the boat fashioned for His

ordained destination. During the journey, a storm was encountered and His petrified disciples reached out to Jesus Christ, who subsequently allayed the storm (Mark 4:35-41). A lot can be gleaned from this episode involving the storm, Jesus Christ and His petrified disciples. The boat (in question) is a representation of our lives, ministry, business, marriage, education and career. Just like the petrified disciples, there are times when we feel as if the aforementioned areas will sink due to life’s varied storms. Believe me; everyone encounters life’s challenges and we must learn to apply the principles of God’s kingdom in order to keep our boats buoyant during life’s storms.

No matter what you are going through; be reminded that as a child of God, your boat will not sink. Just as Jesus Christ did in the episode with His petrified disciples, He has shown and laid down a blueprint that your boat will journey through the storms of life and arrive at His ordained destination. Let’s examine three reasons why the boat harboring Jesus Christ and his petrified disciples did not sink.

First and foremost, the plan is bigger than the storm. Jesus Christ is the one that orchestrated the plan to journey over to the other side. God has greater plans for your life. His plans are definitely greater than the varied storms of life; therefore, your boat will not sink. God’s plan for your life will bring you to His ordained destination; His plans never fail and that which He has decreed over your life will definitely be manifested. Unlike the disciples during the storm, be encouraged and keep your faith in Jesus Christ and perform the required works and these kingdom principles will bring about the manifestation of His plans for your life.

The second reason for the boat staying afloat was that the disciples had a word from Jesus Christ; a word which required getting to the other side. When you have a word of promise from God, there is no way that your boat will sink. When the word of God is embedded in your life and you act upon it wholeheartedly, all things are possible. His word will propel you through life’s challenges and subsequently bring your boat to His intended destination.

Finally, the boat did not sink because Jesus Christ was in the boat. When Jesus Christ is in your boat (i.e. life, marriage, career, education etc.), it will never sink. Be reminded that Jesus Christ dwells in you; therefore, don’t be afraid of the varied storms of life. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord will see you through it all (Psalms 34:19). Be reminded that greater is He that is in you than life’s varied storms; therefore, your boat will not sink (1 John 4:4).

God is our defense and strength. As you dwell on these highlighted points emphasized so far, be encouraged and stand firm in the midst of your storms and become victorious through Jesus Christ. I pray that God helps you to walk in a victorious manner (1 John 5:4); I pray that the Lord blesses you and gives you insights on how to stand faithfully on Him in the midst of life’s storms. Be reminded that your boat will not sink because the plan is greater than the storm. In addition; Jesus Christ has a declared word for your life and by Him being in your boat, it will not sink.

The Transfer Zone By Bishop Masanje Banda

The Egyptians were worried about the Israelites multiplying

and taking over Egypt, so their false prophets met with Pharaoh. Their meeting resulted in making a decree that every male child should be killed. At this point, the mother of Moses would have desperately been praying to deliver a female child, but that did not happen. After delivering her son, she took care of him for 3 months; after which, she had to make a very difficult decision. She made a basket that

was waterproof; a basket that would carry her son while being placed in the River Nile.

Although not mentioned in the Bible, do you think she actually prayed while making the basket? Did she hold God accountable to do a miracle in her life and protect her son? There were a lot of baskets in her environment, but she specifically made a special one. People probably laughed and made fun of her, but that did not bother her.

What is the significance of the basket, and her baby being placed in it? We all have difficult situations that we have to go through or are going through. Your issues are different from the next person’s. As a child of God, you need to get down and take a risk with God. Not just a risk, but a risk that is rooted with faith. Can you imagine what was in the River Nile? There were alligators, crocodiles, hippopotamus and every wild creature that you can possibly imagine. Do you think Moses’

12 Jan/Feb 2015 | www.Agapeflash.org

Page 13: Agapeflash Magazine January 2015

mother was not aware that these aforementioned creatures would easily devour her son and the basket in a second?

Today, I declare to you; as a child of God, you are not the same as your neighbor. Whatever will harm your neighbor will not harm you. This declaration requires you to have extraordinary faith and believe in the Lord Almighty. You might be one of the unemployed today, but this is only temporary. I challenge you to place your situations and problems in the basket and put God to the test. The basket signifies your faith, your actions, your steadfast prayers, your belief, and your loyalty to our Almighty God.

Moses’ mother had no control over the River Nile. The currents could have taken him in a direction that she did not intend. How does this apply to you? While in the basket, you may not know where you are going but God will provide a direction for you. He will provide a solution for you. Why don’t you put the situation in the Hands of God? Your statements and actions should be, “God, I don’t know where I am going; I am going to make a basket and place my life in it, and place it in your Hands.

The God we serve today is the same One from yesterday, and is the same forever and ever. Our God still performs miracles, so don’t let people deceive you and

say, “those were the olden days”. Put your worries, problems, life, concerns, and everything bothering you in a basket set on the River Nile, and let God take control. Just as the crocodiles and alligators did not consume Moses in the basket, contrary forces will have no control and authority over that which you have placed before our Lord God Almighty.

Our God works in mysterious ways. While Moses was in the Nile, the King’s daughter came to the Nile to take a bath. Do you think this was a coincidence? Of all the people that could have been there, it was the King’s daughter that showed up on this particular day. Our God is an awesome God; He turned up the heat in the palace. She could have consumed the coldest water in the palace, and her need to go to the River Nile for a shower would remain. Before she got to the Nile, God took control of its currents and slowed it down. It could have been flowing so fast that the basket harboring Moses would have been carried away before the King’s daughter arrived. God will slow situations down for your sake. God will make the impossible possible for your sake.

Why the King’s daughter? She was the person that would allow Moses to achieve and fulfill his Destiny. Not just the destiny to be in the palace with Pharaoh,

but to free the people of God from bondage. It is my prayer that God takes you to people that will enable your destiny to be fulfilled. When the King’s daughter saw the baby in the basket, she felt sorry for him. She eventually transferred the baby to the mother, so that he can be catered for; after which, he would be returned to the palace (Exodus 2: 6-10).

Can you imagine how the situation was now turned around? A mother who placed her baby in a basket in the River Nile so that the King would not kill him, now had the baby transferred to her. Not just transferred to her, but the King’s daughter even offered to pay her wages to take care of her own baby.

We serve an awesome God. Whatever the enemy has taken from you will be transferred to you (Job 20: 15). You are a person coming from nowhere and when you put yourself in the basket, God will direct your life. I challenge you to put your faith in God; take a risk rooted with faith in Him. Place your desires, worries, concerns, and problems in the basket in the Nile and watch God move you to people that would let your destiny be fulfilled.

By Paul Ebohon

The blessings of having the Lord as your shepherd is clearly established in Psalm 23. While

recognizing that everyone’s level of relationship with God varies, it’s imperative to strive for a higher one. In addition, the restoration of your soul is clearly needed to walk on the paths of righteousness (Psalm 23:3). It’s also clearly established that while being led by Christ, oppositions and tribulations will be encountered (Psalm 23:4). However; such oppositions does not necessarily denotes being out of the will of God.

Having touched briefly on the need to be led by Jesus Christ, and emphasizing that tribulations will be encountered while journeying on His ordained paths, why will He prepare a table before you in the presence of your enemies? Sometimes, the mentality is that, “If you weren’t there for my struggle, don’t expect to be there for my success.” Has the Lord established a table before your enemies in order to solely flaunt your success? It’s imperative to understand that the nature of God is different from that of man; His thoughts and ways are different from yours (Isaiah 55:8-9). Again, why would He prepare a table before you in the presence of your enemies?

There are many answers to the question and one of them can be established by looking at Elijah’s encounter with the 450 false prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18:22). We are reminded that Elijah issued a challenge to these false prophets; a challenge

14 Jan/Feb 2015 | www.Agapeflash.org

Page 15: Agapeflash Magazine January 2015

that could easily have resulted in the people of Israel worshipping Baal (rather than God). Before deciphering selected events that transpired (prior to) and during the challenge issued by Elijah; it’s important to point out that this servant of God was strictly led by the Lord, and even Ahab’s steward (Obadiah) recognized this fact (1 Kings 18:7-12). Elijah’s prayer was unique and had three requests, with the main priority being, “An establishment that God is the only One of Israel” (1 Kings 18:36-37). Elijah’s prayer raises a very good point on the need to make the glorification of God your priority. Your actions, goals, and purpose should be such that bring glory to His name.

How about Elijah’s secondary prayer points (1 Kings 18:36)? As in, a need for the multitude and 850 false prophets to know that he is a servant of God who had conformed to His spoken word. Clearly, Elijah was empowered by the Spirit of God and everything He did (prior to) and during his audacious challenge to the false prophets was based on the word of God (1 Kings 18:1 and verse 36). Elijah not only heard the word of the Lord which required presenting himself before Ahab (who was desperately hunting for him); he also conformed to the word even while being faced with a possibility of death (1 Kings 18:1-2 and verse 10). I ask you today, “Due to (potential) persecutions, are you avoiding conformance to the word of the Lord?”

Where exactly was the table which the Lord prepared for in the presence of Elijah’s enemies? Was it set at the point of manifestation of the power of God when Elijah’s offering was consumed (1 Kings 18:37-39)? Actually, the Lord’s Table was prepared for Elijah when he embarked on the journey to present himself before Ahab (1 Kings 18:1-2 and 14-16). Let’s visualize this scenario from a different perspective. Can you present yourself before someone who you definitely know has a very chance of physically harming you? There is power in the word of God; just like Elijah, it’s imperative to be empowered by His word.

When God prepares your table; your position is conformance to His word and not trying to figure out how His word will be established. The word of God required Elijah to present himself before Ahab; however, a series of events transpired before this meeting. The bottom line is that Ahab actually presented himself before Elijah based on this servant of God’s command to Obadiah (1 Kings 18:8-16). When you walk according to the instructed word of the Lord, the impossible becomes possible.

In addition to being faced with his enemy, Elijah instructed Ahab to fetch the multitude and the 850 false prophets which were needed to witness that there is only One God (1 Kings 18:17-20). Prior to the physical manifestations of God’s glory; the presence of your enemy is sometimes needed to help attract larger numbers needed to glorify His name. Clearly, all the people who witnessed the consumption of Elijah’s sacrifice by the Lord’s fire fell on their faces and acknowledged that, “He is God” (1 Kings 18:38-39).

How about if some of the people and false prophets showed up after Elijah’s offering was consumed by the Lord? Would they have any reason to declare that there is only one God? How about if some of them showed up at the point where the fire of the Lord was consuming Elijah’s offering, would they have witnessed the nuisance which the prophets of Baal made of themselves? Would they have also witnessed that Elijah actually flooded his sacrifice with water prior to the manifestations of the Lord’s glory (1 Kings 18:33-35)?

The same people who witnessed the glory of God can also represent your faith; which in itself can be your archenemy. The 850 false prophets who made a nuisance of themselves is also a representation of the ungodly customs of the world (1 Kings 18:26-29). If you intend to be positioned at the table which God has already established, it’s imperative that you conform to His word rather than contrary sources. Don’t be

Jan/Feb 2015 | www.Agapeflash.org 15

Page 16: Agapeflash Magazine January 2015

deceived by false doctrines and false prophets because their ways, prophecies, and declarations are futile. The table which God sets before you is one which is intended to bring glory to His name. Unlike the table of the false prophets which was never manifested for the multitude, that of God is set up in a timely manner.

When you journey on that purpose needed for the establishment of the Lord’s table, His anointing (which requires a restored soul) is bestowed on you (Psalm 23:3-5). The same anointing of the Lord brings increase and fulfillment in His established purpose for your life. Not just any kind of increase but one which runs over (Psalm 23:5). The same anointing of the Lord will cause goodness and mercy to follow you; however, this requires being rooted in the house of the Lord which actually represents His word (Psalm 23:6).

Being rooted and conforming to the word of the Lord; will in turn, also make you synonymous to a prosperous tree planted by the rivers of water (Psalm 1:1-3). In everything; be reminded that your ways and thoughts are different from God, and He has a reason for preparing a table in the presence of your enemies; one of which is to have His name glorified. Therefore, become an individual who is rooted in the word of God so that His ways can be discerned. Apart from having knowledge of His word, conformance is also of utmost importance. Also pray for empowerment of the Holy Spirit so that your actions are directed according to what God has declared. With the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, your faith would be strengthened to stand firm on the word of God even while faced with adversity.

The One Thing I DoBy Pastor Nkhosana Chongo

Paul underwent difficult circumstances, and was even imprisoned due to his faith. Despite excruciating situations and being chained, Paul wrote a letter to the Philippian church which emphasized that he

had not yet arrived and still presses on to that day when he will receive Jesus Christ. Do you have a feeling of being in chains like Paul? Are you burdened that your anticipated success for last year was not materialized? By being recently engaged and married this year, does that mean that you have arrived? Does it feel like all the doors of possibility for last year have been completely closed; therefore, you can’t arise and shine in 2015?

18 Jan/Feb 2015 | www.Agapeflash.org

Page 19: Agapeflash Magazine January 2015

Despite the obstacles and unforeseen circum-stances encountered in 2014, be encouraged and look forward to what this year has to offer. Be encouraged and continuously press forward into 2015. Failure to do so will cause stagnation in agony from 2014. Once again; be encouraged and take valuable lessons from 2014, which will in turn, help you press further into 2015. In addition, take heed and don’t get contented with successes from 2014. Having such an attitude can cause one to bask in past glory; thereby, failing to realize that further territories can be captured in 2015.

In his letter to the Philippian church, Paul emphasized that he had not arrived. Given that Paul was highly educated and respected in the religious circles, was he sending a contradictory message to the church? Paul was beaten thrice, and also recalled being dead and resurrected. He is the only one that was caught up in the third heaven (2 Corinthians 12:2). If anyone could boast confidently about the things of God, it definitely should be Paul. However, he declared that his accomplishments in Jesus Christ were nothing and expressed his desire to continuously press forward.

Again, be encouraged and press forward. It does not matter what you have gone through because God definitely still has your number. In spite of everything encountered last year, the one thing which you should do (this year) is look up to Jesus Christ and press on. Do you remember Samson? This anointed servant of God had everything going for him until Delilah showed up (Judges 16:1-21). He got complacent and released God’s secret to Delilah; which in turn, had a detrimental impact. Take a lesson from the life of Samson, and don’t get complacent due to successes encountered in 2014. Despite being in chains at the last day, it’s also important to point out that Samson killed more Philistines than he did during his entire life as a free man. His only prayer was, “Lord, remember me” (Judges 16:28).

How about one of the thieves on the cross beside Jesus Christ? This thief was a sure candidate for hell but he rendered one prayer, “Lord, remember me” (Luke 23:39-43). Your prayer should be that God remembers you, and this requires pressing on to Jesus Christ. At the moment, has Christianity become a mere religion to you? It’s time to look back and say, “I’m forgetting what has happened in the past (including 2014) and pressing forward with a new beginning in 2015.” Maybe 2014 was an unsuccessful year with unfulfilled goals; however, you can evaluate why these goals were previously futile, and reset them as needed. As long as your trust is in Jesus Christ, you can be like Paul that pressed on towards Him.

While recognizing a need to continuously press on in 2015, a challenge with spiritual maturity would be a hindrance. Don’t keep repeating an issue to God, when He has already forgiven you. Be encouraged and know that 2015 is a year of promise, impact, and increase. In addition; be reminded that failure is not finalized until the very last moment, when you stop pressing on. So far; this article has emphasized the need to press on, and this can be achieved by various means highlighted below.

First and foremost, pressing on requires redefining your purpose. What’s your purpose in life? Have you lost your purpose and feel like there is no reason for living? If that’s the case, come before Jesus Christ and restate your case and purpose to Him. Rather than reasoning with man, why not be encouraged and reason with God?

In order to press into 2015, and see the manifestations of God’s glory, there is also a need for an enduring spirit. As a soldier of Jesus Christ, you are required to endure hardship. If you are going to press into 2015, stop looking at what could have been in 2014. Be encouraged, take a stand and develop an enduring spirit. Remember that endurance would cause those weights (hindering your progress) to be released.

Jan/Feb 2015 | www.Agapeflash.org 19

Page 20: Agapeflash Magazine January 2015

In order to press on successfully, you must also work in supplication, which is different from reasoning with God. Supplication (here) refers to presenting your cases and requests before God in prayers. Remember that even before asking, God has granted answers to your prayers. As a Christian, don’t live your life as one without supplications. If you prayed twice a day in 2014, make every effort to double that in 2015.

Another area that would help press you on in 2015 is seeing the best in you and others; therefore, don’t beat yourself down. If you fail to see the best in you, who is going to do it or how do you expect others to? By seeing the best in you, the tramples of life would not have their intended effects. Be reminded that permitting others to look down on you would also create an avenue for failing to see the best in yourself.

Encourage yourself in the Lord and see the best in you, as well as others. Don’t focus solely on what others are doing or aren’t doing; but rather,

focus on their potential. Focusing on people’s weaknesses and faults would act as a hindrance to seeing their anointing, which is needed to impact your life. Remember that Jesus Christ did not come to condemn (John 3:17), and the Holy Spirit is the One responsible for conviction.

Joseph thought it was over at the age of 17 but became a father of Pharaoh at 30. Paul counted himself as one of those yet to arrive, and kept pressing forward. Be reminded that living in the glory of the past will cause those for the future to be missed. Be encouraged and learn from 2014’s lessons and press forward into 2015. Find and redefine your purpose again, reason with God, and live a life of supplication. Also develop an enduring spirit; and rather than focusing on faults and weaknesses, see the best in you, as well as others. Remember that God is one of new beginnings; therefore, don’t let bad decisions of the past deter you from pressing forward into new beginnings.

Recovering the Fallen Ax Head By Pastor Ency Josiah

In order to avoid being engulfed by complacency, it’s imperative that we constantly evaluate our lives. Evaluation which involves assessing, judging, gauging, appraising, and analyzing a current

circumstance or situation is exactly what the sons of the prophets did (2 Kings 6:1-2). Apparently, the result of their evaluation showed that the current location was too small and there was a need to acquire a larger territory.

22 Jan/Feb 2015 | www.Agapeflash.org

Page 23: Agapeflash Magazine January 2015

Prior to journeying to the Jordan which had a better opportunity for accomplishing their goal of acquiring a larger dwelling place, one of the sons of the prophets requested that Elisha travels with them (2 Kings 6:3). In the same manner, it's important to request that God and His ordained servant’s journey in our endeavors. As Christians, we should be reminded that there is a special grace which God has placed on His ordained servants, and this same grace is one which cannot be taken for granted.

Having arrived at the Jordan to implement their evaluation's outcome of establishing a larger dwelling place, one of the sons of the prophets was cutting down a tree and his iron ax head fell into the water (2 Kings 6:4-5). For this individual, losing the iron ax head was in no way an outcome to be accepted. To be more precise, the tool was borrowed and this explained why he cried out for Elisha's help.

What's the significance of the iron ax head and does it matter that it was borrowed? In addition to every God given opportunity, the iron ax head represents His anointing in our lives. Most importantly, the iron ax head also represents our lives which are basically borrowed from God. As Christians, we should be reminded that our lives are not by our strength or means; therefore, this should be every reason to constantly minister to God so that He does likewise in our affairs.

The significance of the iron ax head falling into the water is one which cannot be taken for granted. Just like one of the sons of the prophet at the Jordan's water, be encouraged and evaluate your life to see if the iron ax head has left your possession. Losing the iron ax head may not be apparent and this explains why Christians even fail to realize that God’s anointing in their lives has departed. How can a Christian be functional in achieving his or her God ordained purpose when the iron ax head is nowhere to be found but in the water?

Given that the iron ax head was borrowed and had an important role in accomplishing a task needed to build a larger establishment, there was no choice but to scream out for the servant of God's help (2 Kings 6:5). While recognizing that the grace of God which was upon Elisha was sufficient enough to cause the recovery of the lost tool, the particular actions of this servant of God and the culprit cannot be taken for granted (2 Kings 6:6). Elisha specifically asked for the exact location where the iron ax head had fallen, and the culprit had to give a precise location. Elisha subsequently cast a stick into the exact location of the water that harbored the iron ax head and this led to its recovery.

The same grace of God bestowed upon Elisha that led to the recovery of the borrowed iron ax head is still available today. Regardless of the circumstances, we should be encouraged and realize that the word and power of God will restore our iron ax head which has fallen into the water. In order to recover that which has fallen in our lives, it's important that we know the exact location where the pandemonium occurred.

Recognizing the precise location of our downfalls should subsequently be followed by repentance which involves asking for God's grace, mercy, and forgiveness (Revelation 2:5). There is no way to skip or avoid repentance if breakthroughs are truly what we desire. Just like one of the sons of the prophets did, it's very important that we humble ourselves and cry out to the Lord for His divine intervention which is needed to recover our fallen iron ax head (2 Kings 6:5-6).

Blind Bartimaeus' Testimony By Paul Ebohon

I once heard someone emphasizing how her family embarked on a Jericho walk before an interview. I absolutely have no issue with

that, especially if that's exactly what the Lord has instructed. On the other hand, embarking on such a journey because it brought down Jericho’s fortified walls might simply be going through the motions, especially when faith is not involved (Hebrews 11:30). The means through which God intervenes for others might not necessarily be the same in your situation. If God employed the same strategy for breakthroughs, then maybe Jesus Christ would have healed the respective blind men He encountered in the same manner. Bartimaeus was one of such blind men and a couple of points can be gleaned from his encounter with Jesus Christ.

1) The crowd has a role to play.

While blind Bartimaeus cried out to the Lord; don't you find it interesting that the crowd warned him to be quiet? For whatever reason, I'm sure they had their justifications which were irrational to blind Bartimaeus. Today is not any different and you're bound to encounter such a crowd while crying out to the Lord. This could take the form of others suggesting that waiting on the Lord is a waste of time and there are other avenues available for breakthroughs. On the extreme end, such a crowd (which can also include close colleagues or family members) may even vow to cut ties with you for seeking the Lord in a manner like blind Bartimaeus did.

24 Jan/Feb 2015 | www.Agapeflash.org

Page 25: Agapeflash Magazine January 2015

Regardless of people’s efforts to deter you from reaching out to the Lord, that should be more than enough reason to cry out louder. Be reminded that the Lord answers those that wait on Him; however, you can't afford to be weary (Isaiah 40:31). The same crowd that tried suppressing your voice will be witnesses to what the Lord has in stock for you. In blind Bartimaeus' case, don't you also find it interesting that the same crowd that rebuked him were the same ones that comforted him before he approached Jesus Christ? The crowd always has a role to play and you can choose to let them suppress your opportunity for breakthroughs or use them as an avenue to cry out louder to the Lord.

2) Get rid of the old garment

through faith.

Having gotten an approval to have a personal meeting with the Lord, blind Bartimaeus threw aside his garment. What was the significance or value of the garment to blind Bartimaeus? Apparently, this garment was worth everything to him; it provided protection from the harsh weather. As a blind beggar, do you think blind Bartimaeus had the luxury of going to a home with multiple garments to select from? As Christians, we should emulate blind Bartimaeus by getting rid of possessions that associate us with an ungodly lifestyle. Be reminded that Jesus Christ has paid the ultimate price; therefore, we can't harbor the ungodly possessions and expect a breakthrough just like blind Bartimaeus did.

Having emphasized that blind Bartimaeus discarded his most prized possession, this definitely required an act of faith. Without any form of doubt, blind Bartimaeus already knew that Jesus Christ had the power to restore his sight and this explains why he cried out louder (even in the face of adversity). How do you expect to receive breakthroughs from God when your

hands are filled with multiple back-up (ungodly) plans? Do you expect the Lord to intervene when you conform to the instructions of others to seek false prophets for breakthroughs? Your faith goes a long way in the manifestation of that desired breakthrough and even Jesus Christ acknowledges that (just as He did in the case of blind Bartimaeus).

3) Be very specific in your

request to Jesus Christ.

Blind Bartimaeus was very direct and specific in his request to the Lord. He did not give a lengthy story about being forsaken by everyone or the accounts of his endured hardships. Jesus asked a question, and a straight and very specific response was provided by this blind man. That itself is a lesson, especially when praying for breakthroughs. While recognizing that the Lord is omniscient, you should make every endeavor to ensure that your prayers are very specific. Constant patterns of prayers reminding the Lord that He knows your desires are synonymous to casting a net and hoping that something or anything is caught.

Having emphasized some of the key lessons from blind Bartimaeus' encounter with the Lord, we should not be counted among those that receive our blessings and then forsake Him. Blind Bartimaeus followed Jesus Christ after receiving his sight. Deciding to forsake Him or leaning on your own strength or understanding is by no means the best course of action. For instance; even after Lazarus was raised from the dead, the chief priests tried to kill him. Therefore, what makes you feel that the enemy won't attempt to revoke your testimony (John 12:9-11)? However, following the Lord wholeheartedly guarantees security of your breakthroughs and testimonies.

A Leper's Encounter with Elisha By Paul Ebohon

Depending on its position in a statement, the word "but" can be a dreaded one. For instance, you finally received a phone call

from one of the managers from a job interview (which was recently completed). The call itself could be very encouraging, especially if the interview was aced. After highlighting your qualifications and how pleased the interview's panel members were during the interview, he drops the statement saying, "You were one of the most qualified candidates, BUT...." At this point, I'm sure you know where this is leading. The same word applied in Naaman's case who was a mighty man of valor, but also a leper (2 Kings 5:1).

Naaman's leprosy was one of great concern to him. Based on the information provided by a captive, Naaman seized an opportunity for his breakthrough and journeyed to Israel (2 King 5: 2-4). In order to get rid of his leprosy, how much do you think Naaman was willing to sacrifice (2 Kings 5:5)? I will let you be the judge of that and be sure to factor in the six thousand shekels of gold. In the same manner, you and I may not be physically plagued with leprosy but there might

be a condition whereby we are willing to sacrifice all that we have.

Having journeyed all the way to Israel, Naaman was not very pleased with what Elisha required him to do (2 Kings 5:9-12). Thank God for the well positioned servants that reiterated the need to obey Elisha. Eventually, Naaman obeyed and had every reason to glorify the name of the Lord (2 Kings 5:14-15). Having said all that, some key points can be taken from Naaman's condition and his encounter with Elisha.

1) Some conditions are platforms for revelations of God’s power.

Although not clearly stated in Naaman's condition, Jesus Christ clearly emphasized the need for a platform needed for the revelation of God's works in the life of a man who had been blind from birth (John 9:1-3). After restoration of the blind man's sights through the mighty power of God, he

26 Jan/Feb 2015 | www.Agapeflash.org

Page 27: Agapeflash Magazine January 2015

had a testimony even in the face of adversity. The same testimony (through the divine intervention of God) applied to Naaman, who clearly declared that there is no other God except the One which he encountered (2 Kings 5:15). Rather than wallowing in pity or hiding that condition, why not bring it before the Lord? Be reminded that God has not changed; therefore, seek Him for divine intervention.

2) Obedience is the key.

Naaman almost missed the opportunity for a divine breakthrough. Apparently, this Syrian army commander was under the notion that Elisha would call upon the name of God through some ridiculous acts (2 Kings 5:11). In the same manner, Christians sometimes tend to have a notion about how God intends to intercede in their situations. That's not our place to figure out how God will do His work; we should constantly be reminded to do our part and let God do His.

Obedience to the word of God is definitely a key requirement for breakthroughs. The blind man clearly obeyed the word of God and washed in the pool of Siloam (John 9:7); the ten lepers clearly obeyed the word of God and were healed (Luke 17:11-19). Naaman, on the other hand had to be convinced by his servants to obey what Elisha had instructed.

In the same manner, you and I can be Naaman's. When the word of God brings conviction on the need to forgive, do you become furious and list a thousand reasons for being disobedient to the word? When your colleagues give constructive criticism, do you get furious and cut them off as friends? When your supervisors recommend honing certain skills, is that your signal to start looking for a different office to work in? These simple illustrations (i.e., a need to forgive, constructive

criticism, and honing certain skills) could be the Jordan's needed to cleanse you; therefore, rather than being furious (like Naaman), be obedient to the word of God.

3) Faith is needed and there is no room for pride.

After being persuaded by his servants to wash in the Jordan, a level of faith was needed for Naaman's breakthrough. If Naaman believed that the task at hand was futile, he most likely would have needed addition persuasion. His faith in the word of God spoken by Elisha was a key factor in his breakthrough. Without it, he would most likely have never stepped into the Jordan.

For a second, do you think that nobody was on site when Naaman showed up at the Jordan to wash himself? Can you picture this great man of valor being reduced to a level where he would typically not be seen? Naaman had to put his pride aside and believe that the spoken word of God by Elisha will be manifested. As Christians, we are to emulate Naaman and get rid of any form of pride (if breakthroughs are truly what we desire). Is that pride worth the pain of keeping that daunting condition signified as leprosy in the life of Naaman (Proverbs 16:18)?

Regardless of our current relationship with the Lord, we are not guaranteed that everything will always go as intended. Undesired conditions will be presented and it's our place to seek the face of the Lord. While doing so, we must remain cognizant that some of our conditions are platforms needed for God to reveal His mighty works in our lives. We should also recognize the need for constant obedience to His word. Finally, the equation should be inundated with faith with absolutely no room for pride.

The Daily Worries of A Parent By Ngozi Nwoke

Do you find yourself worrying over your children’s daily affairs or their future? Parenthood comes with great

responsibilities: spiritual, physical and emotional responsibilities. And for a child to be stable all around, his or her parents must fulfill their responsibilities. However, these responsibilities turn into daily worries for some parents. This article tells you the root-cause of the anxiety and what to do to avoid it.

“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will put on. Is not life

more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature (Matthew 6:25-27)?

Nobody really wants to worry over anything, because it is not good for your health. But somehow, people get tangled with daily worries and it seems to increase when you become a parent. And sometimes, people think, especially women, that worrying over their children is normal.

PARENTING SECTION

28 Jan/Feb 2015 | www.Agapeflash.org

Page 29: Agapeflash Magazine January 2015

Anxiety is not of God, but of the devil. It never solves anything but compounds issues. It affects you spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically and financially. It is a little fox that spoils the vine (Songs of Solomon 2:15).

Therefore, God admonishes us (in Matthew 6:25-34) not to worry over anything. Worrying can never add one cubit to your stature. If God can take care of grasses that are here today and gone tomorrow, will He not take care of you and your children? Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

When I got married I made up my mind not to worry about anything but to trust God for everything. It worked for many years, but then I was yet to be a mother. I didn’t worry about anything even though we were constantly moving because of my husband’s assignments. I was content with whatever I had until I had my son (twelve years after marriage), and the daily worries of a parent crawled in.

I started thinking of how to secure his future financially. I became concerned with the constant movements. I worried about his low-speed in talking and expressing himself; anxiety overwhelmed me. We lacked nothing but I found myself worrying about tomorrow and everything about him. I was no more content with what I had; I wanted more because of tomorrow. Then I understood why it was difficult to convince my mother not to worry about us (as her children).

Then, one day, God pointed out the genesis of my daily worries - I didn’t trust Him enough to take care of my son and all that concerns Him. I was acting as though my son’s future depended only on my efforts. I was trying to take the place of God over my son’s life, and you can certainly say that I was not doing a very good job with it.

God reminded me of how He took care of me and all that concerned me because I trusted Him. I apologized, asked for forgiveness and chose to trust Him from then on and to take care of any issue concerning my son. Any time daily worries tried to come back, I would hold on to God’s word which declared that He will take care of my son. I continuously perform the aforementioned action until the anxiety disappears.

So should you do nothing and expect God to do it all? No, that shouldn’t be the case. A man of God calls that an irresponsible faith. You are to do what lies within your power without anxiety and leave the rest for God. You are only a caretaker and God is the ultimate “owner” of your children. God is a responsible father, He will always take care of His own; however, this requires that you constantly trust Him and allow Him to do what is best for your children.

If you are looking for a job, do whatever is lawful that your hand finds to do with all your might (Ecclesiastes 9:10) and God will prosper it (Deuteronomy 30:9). Train your children in the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 22:6); consistently pray for them (covering all areas of their lives), and be available for them. Also, feed yourself with the daily bread of God’s word to arm yourself against worries; God will perfect all that concerns your children (Psalms 138:8).

Surely, you have so many reasons to have these daily worries but the truth is that you don’t have to have them. It never solves any problem, do your best as a responsible and loving parent and leave God to perfect everything else in the lives of your children.

HEALTH CORNER

Eggs, poultry, meat, milk, and other foods are safe when handled properly. Shell eggs are safest when stored in the refrigerator, individually and thoroughly cooked, and promptly consumed after cooking. The larger the number of Salmonella bacteria present in the egg, the more likely the egg is to cause illness. Keeping eggs adequately refrigerated prevents any Salmonella present in the eggs from growing to higher numbers, so eggs should be refrigerated until they are needed.

Cooking reduces the number of bacteria present in an egg; however, a lightly cooked egg with a runny egg white or yolk still poses a greater risk than a thoroughly cooked egg. Lightly cooked egg whites and yolks have both caused outbreaks of Salmonella Enteritidis infections. Cooked eggs should be consumed promptly and not be held in the temperature range of 40 to 140°F for more than 2 hours.

Tips to Reduce Your Risk of Salmonella from EggsA type of bacterium, Salmonella, can be on both the outside and inside of eggs that appear to be normal, and if the eggs are eaten raw or lightly cooked, the bacterium can cause illness.

Measures for Preventing the Risk of Salmonella Infection

1. Like other foods, keep eggs refrigerated at≤40°F(≤4°C)atalltimes.Buyeggs only from stores or other suppliers that keep them refrigerated.2. Discard cracked or dirty eggs.3. Wash hands and all food contact surface areas (counter tops, utensils, dishes, and cutting boards) with soap and water after contact with raw eggs. Then disinfect the food contact surfaces using a sanitizing agent, such as bleach, following label instructions.4. Eggs should be thoroughly cooked until both the yolk and white are firm. Recipes containing eggs mixed with other foods should be cooked to an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).5. Eat eggs promptly after cooking. Do not keep eggs warm or at room temperature for more than 2 hours.6. Refrigerate unused or leftover egg- containing foods promptly.7. Avoid restaurant dishes made with raw or lightly cooked, unpasteurized eggs. Restaurants should use pasteurized eggs in any recipe (such as Hollandaise sauce or Caesar salad dressing) that would result in consumption of raw or lightly cooked eggs.8. Consumption of raw or undercooked eggs should be avoided, especially by young children, elderly persons, and persons with weakened immune systems or debilitating illness.9. Consumers can consider buying and using pasteurized shell eggs, which are available for purchase from certain stores and suppliers.

How Do I Know if I Have a Salmonella Infection?

A person infected with Salmonella usually has a fever, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea beginning 12 to 72 hours after consuming a contaminated food or beverage. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days, and most persons recover without antibiotic treatment. However, the diarrhea can be severe, and the person may be ill enough to require hospitalization.

Who Is Mostly at Risk for Getting a Salmonella Infection?

The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems may have a more severe illness. In these patients, the infection may spread from the intestines to the blood stream, and then to other body sites and can cause death unless the person is treated promptly with antibiotics.

The Flash Column

The Prayer of Faith

While in route to the Promised Land, the Israelites encountered a battle with the Amalekites. Prior to the battle, Moses gave Joshua clear instructions on what to do; after which, he departed for the top of the hill with the rod of God in his hand. Apparently; every time Moses held up his hand, the Israelites prevailed in battle against the Amalekites, and the outcome was reversed when his hand was let down (Exodus 17: 8-13).

Was Moses merely standing or sitting on top of the hill with his hands raised? More light can be shed on what transpired on the hill top by referencing James 5:16, which states that the prayer of faith will save the sick and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Clearly, one can infer that Moses did more than just

By Paul Ebohon

raising his hand while stationed on the hill top. Through prayers of faith, he interceded for the Israelites who were battling the Amalekites.

As a Christian, it should be your place to intercede for your family members, colleagues, and friends through prayers of faith. Be reminded that a prayer of faith goes a long way; it heals the sick and forgives the transgressions of sinners. Even when it feels like such prayers of faith are not being answered at the moment, emulate Moses and intercede for the persons in question without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). It’s my prayer that the Lord establishes you as a Moses within your circle of influence. May you be surrounded by individuals such as Aaron and Hur who will provide the needed support when you feel weary (Exodus 17: 11-12).

Hallmarks of Discipleship

Are you a disciple of Jesus Christ? Clearly, being obedient to the teachings of Jesus Christ makes you His disciple (John 8:31). In addition, His disciple is someone who loves others regardless of whether or not they do likewise (John 13:34-35). By being a disciple of Jesus Christ, you are also expected to bear fruits (John 15:7-8). The fruits (in question) encompasses utilizing your gifts and resources for Him, as well as bearing evidence of the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22). Finally; given that a disciple’s primary responsibility is to populate the kingdom of God, you are expected to make other disciples for Him (Matthew 28:16-20). Are you a disciple of Jesus Christ?

The Anointing of The Lord: Is It A Friend or Enemy?

The Lord’s anointing is such an amazing substance that it can touch both the saint and the sinner. For the sinner; His anointing will destroy him; but the saint, the anointing will build him. If you persistently live in sin, the anointing of God will be your enemy; but when you are living for God, that anointing will be your friend. Here is an illustration: King Saul was anointed and was later killed; Judas Iscariot hung himself. The Lord’s anointing was upon both of these aforementioned individuals; however, they never knew true repentance and the cleansing of the blood of Jesus Christ. The Lord’s anointing demands us to walk on God’s side all the time.

Positive Imaginations

While recognizing the propensity of the mind to gravitate towards negativity, we have the power to sanctify our minds with positive imaginations, and cast down the negative ones associated with strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:2-6). The ultimate question remains; as in, “Are you actively engaged in negative imaginations?” If so, be reminded that such imaginations contrary to godly and positive ones bring about decrease in your affairs and relationships.

Apparently, our imaginations can procreate bondages; however, those conceived on the thoughts and the word of God bring about fruition of breakthroughs and desired increase. As Christians, why should we be dealing with the issue of low self-esteem? We ought to be constantly reminded that our focus and esteem should be on Jesus Christ.

Righteousness

God does not see you as living right when you are not righteous in His sight; however, His righteousness in Christ Jesus can guarantee righteousness in your life. Living in a manner that is right in the sight of God is as a result of the inner righteousness of Jesus Christ in us. God clearly expects that only a righteous man can live right in His sight. Someone might define a righteous lifestyle as one which entails doing good, helping the needy, and being at peace with everyone; however, this definition is flawed according to God’s established word (Isaiah 64:5-6). An absence of God in the center of an individual’s heart and life basically makes him or her unworthy of being classified as being a righteous one.
