EXPERIMENTAL FARMS

Use of no-TILL technology and its positive impact: Increasing crop yield, decreasing cost production and improving soil conservation

Panel Discussion:By Ambassador R. Carlos Sersale di Cerisano, Argentine Republic

Experimental Farms in South Africa Project started in 2011

2 experimental farms in distinct locations with different

characteristics

Work done with Argentine no-Till machinery and related inputs

Argentine and South African professionals and farmers working

together

Public and Private interaction

Conventional planting Direct Planting

Comparison between conventional and direct planting Conventional planting

2nd Phase of PlantingNovember 2011

CROP YIELD RESULTS (Two per year)

• Maize: Average increase of 30% by direct planting as opposed to conventional tillage

• Soya: Average increase of 15% by direct planting as opposed to conventional tillage

Fundación CIDETER

PRODUCTION RESULTS & ADVANTAGES

• 46% reduction in fuel consumption

• 45% reduction in repair costs

• ¼ the Amount of man hours as opposed to

conventional Tillage methods.

More Results• The technology used for direct planting surpassed the

conventional by 46,9% in high potential yields and 22,7% in low potential yields respectively.

• A 1.93% increase was shown in high potential yields when increasing the number of seeds from 60 to 80 thousand whilst in Low Potential yields an increase of 7.77 % was present when an increase of 45 thousand to 60 thousand seeds was made.

Increases in exports to South Africa

Results of experimental farms made between Grain S.A./INTA

• Local developments at Settlers farm

• Demonstration of erosion in direct planting and conventional tillage.
