Case Study: Sterling Savings Bank Currently employing over 2,500 people and holding assets totaling over $9 billion, this Washington state-chartered commercial bank provides full-service banking to its customers throughout 178 branches across Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, and California. When they turned to the experts at Advocate Consulting, the resulting price reductions funded an upgraded future-state network of signifi cantly higher bandwidth.
The Challenge:When Sterling Savings Bank began a core banking system conversion in late 2010, the executives and IT Infrastructure Services Director realized that their growing business would soon require an updated network with increased bandwidth and security.
The Goal:In order to future-proof their network and ensure that they would be able to continue to provide high-quality service, the bank looked to Advocate Consulting to create a Strategic Roadmap for their communications system. The key project deliverables:
Analyze and Benchmark the current WAN proposal
Deliver Best in Class communications services
Reduce communications expenses and improve service
Increase capacity data lines to regional offi ces
Expand bandwidth to meet future demand requirements
The Result:Following the assessment and benchmark, the Advocate team executed on the Strategic Roadmap by working closely with the bank’s subject matter experts to create, present, and negotiate the development of executable documents according to the specifi c demand set regarding contract terms, conditions, commitment structure and pricing.
A new contract was completed achieving the following results:
Price reductions of 18% (about $2 million) on like-for-like network – beating the benchmark
Increased bandwidth by about 2x their previous network
Signifi cant contract fl exibility in regards to circuit and term commitment
Ability to maintain high quality of service through system conversion
Increased capability to effectively implement and utilize emerging technologies
