A scene from the Dogri play Mangoo Di Shabeel staged by Svaraj Productions at Abhinav Theater on Wednesday. -Excelsior/Rakesh Listless adaptation of Dinu Bhai Pant’s ‘Mangoo Di Shabeel’ disappoints Lalit Gupta JAMMU, Mar 20: The list- less presentation of Dinu Bhai Pant’s long poem ‘Mangoo Di Shabeel’, staged by Greenhorns under banner of Svaraj Productions, not only raised misgivings about the impartiali- ty of the selection process, but put a kind of damper on the much hyped ongoing Dogri Theater Festival, at the Abhinav Theater, today. ‘Mangoo Di Shabeel’, adapted by Rajneesh Gupta, and directed by Kumar Binny, is a scathing critique of money lenders, who in Pre- Independence India, took advantage of misfortunes of the poor and the downtrodden and kept them and their coming gen- erations in perpetual state of debt through the institution of usury. Notwithstanding the wel- come fact that the cast of young actors hailed from moufassil, today’s production banking upon cliched and hackneyed techniques, fell short of repre- senting an artistic rendering of the pathos and helplessness of the gullible masses so admirable portrayed in the progressive poetry of Dinu Bhai Pant, one of the stalwarts of modern Dogri Renaissance. The cast of the play includ- ed Ajay Kumar, Mohit Sharma, Aman Baghat, Ravi Kumar, Aman Kumar, Sanju Nandan, Kannu Baghat, Divya Sharma, Deep Mala, Deepakshi Nandhi. Music was designed by Ajay Rajapuri, lights by Ravinder Sharma, and make-up by Divya. Lalit GuptaJAMMU, Mar 20: The list-

less presentation of Dinu BhaiPant’s long poem ‘Mangoo DiShabeel’, staged by Greenhornsunder banner of SvarajProductions, not only raisedmisgivings about the impartiali-ty of the selection process, butput a kind of damper on themuch hyped ongoing DogriTheater Festival, at the AbhinavTheater, today.

‘Mangoo Di Shabeel’,adapted by Rajneesh Gupta, anddirected by Kumar Binny, is ascathing critique of moneylenders, who in Pre-Independence India, tookadvantage of misfortunes of thepoor and the downtrodden andkept them and their coming gen-erations in perpetual state ofdebt through the institution ofusury.

Notwithstanding the wel-

come fact that the cast of youngactors hailed from moufassil, today’s production bankingupon cliched and hackneyedtechniques, fell short of repre-senting an artistic rendering ofthe pathos and helplessness ofthe gullible masses so admirableportrayed in the progressivepoetry of Dinu Bhai Pant, one ofthe stalwarts of modern DogriRenaissance.

The cast of the play includ-ed Ajay Kumar, Mohit Sharma,Aman Baghat, Ravi Kumar,Aman Kumar, Sanju Nandan,Kannu Baghat, Divya Sharma,Deep Mala, Deepakshi Nandhi.Music was designed by AjayRajapuri, lights by RavinderSharma, and make-up byDivya.
