2 Sustainable Tourism Plans(participative approach- stakeholdersworkshops, interviews, advisory boards)

plans includes: visions, goals, activities and key partners, indicators, monitoring plan, financing needed for sustainable tourism and tourist zone

communication and promotianalmaterials

Sustainable tourist infrastructure

Eko Partner as environmentally responsible management program for small tourist facilities has been promoted (20 new members)

energy saving equipment (solar panels, water reducer, home-compost boxes, LED light bulbs..) installed in private camps (NP Telašćica and Lastovo islands)

Education and interpretation

two interpretive pathaways are installed: land pathway on Lastovo and submarine pathway on Telašćica

workshops training “interpretation of values of protected areas “ were organized for tourist providers-agencies, guides, tourist boards

workshops themes: interpretation, promotional materials, joint marketing

evaluation -high satisfaction with the theme and mode of operation

Leave No Trace education

• Leave No Trace workshops trainings for active tourism guides

• outdoor ethics is important part of thetourism in nature especially in protected and NATURA 2000 areas

• principles of leaving no trace (practical advises and guidelines for guides and tourists )

• promotional material: brochure and video “Be Natural Be Active”

Recommendations

Tourism and nature/environment protection sectors need to cooperate during thepreparation and implementation of tourist season:

joint planning – common clear visions, activities, agreed responsibilities

joint implementation and monitoring –adaptive management

permanent education - raise the capacity of the nature conservation and tourism sector related to the theme of sustainable tourism (communication, promotion, interpretation, planning, visitors monitoring, green certificates...)

create sustainable tourism products in and around protected/ natural areas (services, accommodation, travel programs) based on cooperation with local tourism stakeholders (tourist office, tourist service providers)

support to local tourist providers ↔ active participation

Together we can create sustainable tourism in practice
