“251 coins in the pile, and none in my tummy. 252 coins, and none for me. 253 coins…” said Jimmy the penguin on Pepper Island. He was counting chocolate coins, the island’s treasure, but he wasn’t allowed to eat any. Instead he was making a great big pile just as Captain Patch had told him to do, but today Patch was about to give Jimmy a surprise.

“I’m not going to wear this eyepatch anymore,” said Captain Patch and she took it off . To Jimmy’s surprise, she didn’t need it. “You’ve got two eyes!” exclaimed Jimmy.

“I wanted people to think I was a big scary pirate so I wore the eyepatch,” replied Patch. “Why do you want people to be scared?” asked Jimmy. “You could be a nice pirate.”

Patch frowned. “All pirates are meanies! I really want us to be penguin pirates but we haven’t got a ship. I know! We could join the Night-time pirates!”

How does the sea say goodbye? It doesn’t, it just waves

The Night-time pirates were the scariest of all the pirates. You could only see them at night if you stayed up really late and then it was hard to see them as their ship was like

a ghost ship. It was black, with black masts, and no one was

sure if it even had sails. Patch remembered

where she’d seen them. “They sometimes

pass the wrecked ship in the bay at midnight.”

Jimmy was a bit scared, but he also knew pirates have lots of food and he was hungry from counting but not

eating chocolate coins. “Let’s do it,

Captain,” he said, “but we must hide

the treasure first.”

Patch and Jimmy tried to hide the coins in the trees

but they couldn’t climb them, so instead they buried them in a big hole in the beach and covered them up. Then they waited for the Night-time pirates to come.

Lion-Pirate Shivermetimbers was known throughout the Pacifi c as the meanest lion of all, and that’s why he was the head of the Night-time pirates. It was breakfast time on his ship. “It’s ice cream and sausage pizza,” said the chef, “your favourite food!”

“My second favourite food,” growled Shivermetimbers. “Ice cream and sausage pizza is good, but it’s not as good as chocolate coins! Those are my favourites!”

The ship’s chef didn’t have a recipe for making chocolate coins. She had tried every type of fi sh, seaweed and even bits of boat to make them but it never worked. “I’m sorry, I can’t think of anything else to try,” she said sadly.

“Well, if we can’t make them,” said Shivermetimbers, “then we’ll have to steal them from Pepper Island! When it’s midnight we’ll land at the wrecked ship bay

and I’ll take them all!” Then he laughed a wicked laugh and went off to brush his mane.

Why are pirates so evil? They just aaaarrrggh!

Colour in the Penguin Pirates

Just then, the chef saw someone hiding on the ship. “I am Clembbra, a very brave and famous explorer,” he said, “and I smuggled myself on board so as to get to Pepper Island. I want to fi nd out how to make chocolate coins.”

So do I!” cheered the chef. “I know every recipe except the one for chocolate coins, so I’m coming with you!”

Page 10: Adventure - Weeblythetakeawaystoryshow.weebly.com/uploads/2/2/2/0/22200990/... · 2019-09-11 · WRECKED SHIP BAY “251 coins in the pile, and none in my tummy. 252 coins, and none

At ten minutes to midnight, Patch and Jimmy were hiding near the shore of the wrecked ship bay. They used telescopes to look out for the Night-time pirates and when they saw the ship coming, Patch and Jimmy got close to the sea’s edge to get ready to climb on board. Suddenly, they saw a shark!

“Help me!” begged Hector the shark. “I was trying to get to the chocolate coins I saw you burying on the beach, but I’ve got stuck as the water is too shallow.”

Patch and Jimmy didn’t like the shark for trying to take their coins, so they poked it back and forth a hundred times.

As the Night-time pirateship moored at the wrecked ship bay, Shivermetimbers saw what looked like two penguin pirates fi ghting a shark and he was impressed. “I am Shivermetimbers,” he said to Patch and Jimmy, “and I’m here for the chocolate coins.”

Page 11: Adventure - Weeblythetakeawaystoryshow.weebly.com/uploads/2/2/2/0/22200990/... · 2019-09-11 · WRECKED SHIP BAY “251 coins in the pile, and none in my tummy. 252 coins, and none

Shivermetimbers thought about it. Then he said “Why don’t I just eat you?” and Jimmy quickly replied “Don’t do that! All penguins cook brilliant fi sh and chips, let us make you some then you can go and look for coins!” Shivermetimbers didn’t know where his chef had gone when his ship landed, so he decided to eat fi sh and chips, fi nd the coins and then cook the penguins later.

“Oh no,” thought Patch, “I can’t tell him where they are.” So Patch put on her meanest pirate voice and bravely said “I be Captain Patch of the Penguin Pirates, and there be no chocolate coins here on Pepper Island.”

Shivermetimbers was suspicious and pointed to where Patch and Jimmy had buried the chocolate coins. “That mound looks like it’s covering freshly buried treasure, and why does it have a sign saying ‘Don’t look at me, I’m not chocolate coins’?” he asked.

“Because it’s not chocolate coins and there are none on this island,” said Patch, and then still feeling brave she said “Let’s make a deal. If you fi nd any chocolate coins on Pepper Island before dawn, then you can have them and you can also have us for your pirate crew. And if you don’t fi nd any, then we get your ship.”

What did the pirate say when his wooden leg got stuck in a freezer?Shiver me timbers!

Page 12: Adventure - Weeblythetakeawaystoryshow.weebly.com/uploads/2/2/2/0/22200990/... · 2019-09-11 · WRECKED SHIP BAY “251 coins in the pile, and none in my tummy. 252 coins, and none

“Do you know how to make chocolate coins?” asked the chef. “You have to milk a chocolate tree!” smiled the Purple Awooh Monster. The chef and Clembbra got in a sand truck and drove to where the chocolate trees grew, and the Purple Awooh Monster sang a sea shanty about climbing the high trees as fast as you can, moving along the branches, picking the leaves and rubbing them together to get milk. “Then you lick it up and it’s really nice,” he said, “and the drops you don’t lick get turned into chocolate coins! The penguins look after them for me. I like penguins because they can’t reach my toes to tickle them. AwwoooOOOOHHH!”

The chef had run off with Clembbra and they were also searching for chocolate coins. “I’m only a little bit brave,” said Clembbra, then he screamed and hid as he heard a really loud “AwwoooOOOOHHH!”

“It’s a giant Purple Awooh Monster!” said the chef. “Don’t be afraid, they’re the friendliest monsters in the world!”

“Yes, we’re very friendly and we’re also really ticklish, ha ha hee hee ha hee!” laughed the Purple Awooh Monster as the chef tickled his toe.

“So the penguins do have the coins!” growled Shivermetimbers, who had been listening. Seeing a lion was too much for Clembbra and he ran away screaming “I am not brave at all!”

“I’ve been all over Pepper Island trying to fi nd the chocolate coins before dawn came up,” said Shivermetimbers, “and now I’m going to get the coins, then I will get your penguin friends, and then I will eat both of them!” He got in his Night-time plane and fl ew back to his Night-time ship.

Patch and Jimmy were waiting on the beach for dawn to rise when suddenly Shivermetimbers ran in and dug up the buried chocolate coins. “I knew it!” yelled Shivermetimbers. Patch was disappointed at fi rst but then remembered the deal. “We’ll have to join your crew now!”

Page 14: Adventure - Weeblythetakeawaystoryshow.weebly.com/uploads/2/2/2/0/22200990/... · 2019-09-11 · WRECKED SHIP BAY “251 coins in the pile, and none in my tummy. 252 coins, and none

Shivermetimbers led Patch and Jimmy onto the Night-time pirate ship. “Yay! I’m a pirate!” shouted Patch and she danced around. “You stand on the bridge,” said Shivermetimbers whilst licking his lips, “and I’ll see about making you dinner.”

“What’s for dinner?” asked Jimmy. “P… p… pizza,” said Shivermetimbers. “Ice cream and sausage pizza.”

“What’s the sausage made of?” asked Jimmy and Shivermetimbers said “Pe... pe... pepperoni.”

“What fl avour of ice cream?” asked Jimmy. “Pe… pe… penguin!” roared Shivermetimbers, “I’m going to eat you!”

The chef came to get Patch and Jimmy and took them to the kitchen. “Don’t worry,” she said, “I want to stay on Pepper Island and make chocolate coins, so we’re all going to escape!”

Shivermetimbers decided he would save the chocolate coins for dessert, so when the chef brought him his pizza he gobbled it very quickly. But it wasn’t pepperoni penguin pizza at all, instead the chef had cooked a sea monster’s toe, which tasted like penguin but had a special side eff ect.

“What’s happening?” yelled Shivermetimbers as his tummy went in and out and he span round and round. His arms disappeared, then his mane disappeared, and he turned into a shark! Patch and Jimmy laughed and poked him back and forth. “How do you like that? We’re going to keep your ship and run the Night-time pirates!” said Jimmy.

What do you call a shaking ship at the bottom of the ocean?

A nervous wreck?

Page 15: Adventure - Weeblythetakeawaystoryshow.weebly.com/uploads/2/2/2/0/22200990/... · 2019-09-11 · WRECKED SHIP BAY “251 coins in the pile, and none in my tummy. 252 coins, and none

“But you were right, Jimmy,” said Patch. “I don’t want to be a mean pirate like Shivermetimbers, I’ll be a nice pirate like you said. Let’s give chocolate coins to everyone!”

The Purple Awooh Monster ran onto the beach and said “Yes, give them to everybody! I didn’t know people liked them on other islands, and with the chef helping me we can make you lots and lots of chocolate coins for your ship! AwwoooOOOOHHH!”

Patch gave a coin to the shark, and was amazed when it turned him back into Shivermetimbers. “But I’m a good pirate now, because chocolate is all good!” he said. “If we’re going to give chocolate coins to everyone then we should replace my old ship, let’s use my new underwater boat!”

So the Night-time pirates became known as the Jolly Penguin Pirates, and Captain Patch, Jimmy and Lion-Pirate Shivermetimbers sailed the seas giving chocolate coins to everyone. And at long last, even Jimmy was heard eating some! “251 coins in my tummy, and none in the pile. 252 coins, and no pile. 253 coins…”
