Introduction

• In our Institute the Following Instrument’s Are Available Related With Pharmaceutics Branch

HomoginizerFreeze Dryer

• Dissolution

• Dissintegration

• U.V.Spectrophotometer

• Hot Air Oven

• And Many More

Homogenizer

• Homogenization is a process of achieving homogeneity through out a product by particle size modification.

• In 1899 Auguste Gaulin obtained a patent on his homogenizer. The patent consisted of a 3 piston pump in which product was forced through one or more hair like tubes under pressure

• it is characterized into three major categories:-

A. Ultrasonic pressure homogenization

B. Pressure homogenization

C. Mechanical homogenization

Application

• Application of homogenization are

• in food industry

• chemical industry

• pharmaceutical and chemical industry.

• Most important use of homogenization process in food industry is in milk homogenization.

• Selection criteria of homogenizers depends on particular application.

Freeze Dryer

• Freeze drying can be used to stabilize samples for storage, preservation, or shipping

• It is particularity useful for heat sensitive samples. Compared to other types of dehydration, lyophilization causes less damage and allows for retention of structure and some activity or viability

• Lyophilization is appropriate for many biological samples including microorganisms, vaccines, pharmaceuticals, blood fractions and proteins. Conversely, mammalian cells cannot be freeze dried and are usually destroyed by lyophilization.• Three Stages: a) Pre-freezing b) Primary c) Secondary

Factors Affect On Freeze Drying

• The time required to freeze dry a given sample is dependent on the

• Sample surface area

• volume, and thickness

• the vacuum obtained,

• the temperature of the collector

• the eutectic point and solute concentration of the sample

• Water contain

Sr.no. Name Description

1 LCD Display Displays system operating parameters, setupparameters and alarm messages.

2 Menu Switch This switch is used to change the displayfrom operating system parameters to set-upparameters.

3 Select Switch Used to select set-up parameters

4 Vacuum Switch Used to start or stop the vacuum pump whenoperating in manual start-up mode

5 Sr.no This green LED indicates that power is beingsupplied to the vacuum pump receptacle onthe back of the Freeze Dryer.

6 Manual RefrigerationSwitch

Used to start only the refrigeration module.

7 Manual OperationIndicator

When lit, the green LED indicates the FreezeDryer is being controlled manually by theoperator.

Page 13: Advanced instrument’s in school of pharmacy

8 Auto Mode Switch Used to start or stop the refrigeration andthe Auto Mode process.

9 Auto Mode Indicator When lit, the green LED indicates that theFreeze Dryer is in Auto Mode. In this mode, the vacuum pump will start when thecollector temperature reaches –40°C.

10 Vacuum GraphDisplay

This display indicates the relative systemvacuum level. The highest LED indicates thatthe vacuum level is above 2.0 mBar.The lower green LED flashes when thesystem vacuum level is 0.45 to 0.12 mBarand illuminates steadily below 0.133 mBar.

11 CollectorTemperature GraphDisplay

This display indicates the temperatureof the collector. The highest LED indicatesthe collector temperature is warmer than10°C. When the collector temperature is40°C or lower the green indicator will light.

12 Alarm Indicator This red LED indicates that a system alarmhas occurred. Press the Menu Switch todisplay the alarm message on the LCDdisplay.

13 Main Power Switch Turns the Freeze Dryer on or off. (Notshown, located on the left side of thecabinet.)

14 Defrost Switch Used to defrost ice from the collector coil.

15 Defrost Indicator This green LED illuminates when the FreezeDryer is in defrost mode.

16 Purge Valve Switch Used to open or close the purge valve. Theinstrument in SR421 does not have thisfeature.

17 Purge ValveIndicator

This green LED illuminates when the purgevalve is closed.

18Vacuum ChamberSwitch

Used to operate the heater on the vacuumchamber.

19 Vacuum ChamberIndicator

This green LED illuminates when the shellvacuum chamber heater is operating.
