2.South African Police Service

Specialist Legal Officer, Organized Crime (1 of 11 appointed in the country). Supervision of all organized crime operations and investigations. This included tendering advice on all applications made to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in respect of undercover operations (section 252a of the criminal procedure act 51, of 1977), interception and surveillance, search and seizures, schedule 5 and 6 bail applications, extraditions, international contracts, forfeiture of assets, more especially on preservation orders, issuing of section 51 notices in terms of the prevention of organized crime act, confiscation orders, court procedures in relation to these applications, and what is required for a successful application, etc

Strategic decision making to ensure that all organised crime dockets where court ready and would lead to successful prosecutions.

One of the key requirements of this position was to have knowledge of legislation (especially the Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977, and the Prevention of Organised Crime Act) and case law, and the ability to correctly, and legally interpret these sources of information to ensure that they are correctly implemented by the specialised units within the Police. Relationship building and Stakeholder management, especially in respect to other government organisations (Asset Forfeiture Unit, NPA, Correctional Services, SARS, etc)

4.Chief Executive Officer, Business Against Crime SA (2012-date)As CEO of BACSA, I was afforded the opportunity to make the organisation a transformational one. During the last two years all government departments, at the Ministerial and DG level have formalized partnerships with BACSA. The Presidency has also become one of BACSAs key partners as a result of current leadership. I have enabled BACSA to become a key strategic partner within the Presidency, as a result of which the former will now form part of the Business Work Group in the office of the President. The CEO, is accountable to the Board of Business Against Crime SA. Some of the key functions include the following:

The CEO is a critical facilitator in ensuring that the organizational strategy is relevant and appropriate for the environment in which it operates, and that the executive capacity is able to implement the strategy.

The CEO is also responsible for the effective management of the complex interface between government and business (requiring a deep understanding of, and relationships with, each domain) and the effective mobilization and management of business support to prioritized areas of engagement.

Core functions and responsibilities of the position;

Leadership:

Provide credible and ethical leadership relative to BACSA staff, BACSA structures and the Government and Business stakeholders.

Strengthening the partnership between Government and BACSA:

The unique partnership between Government and BACSA to be deepened and maintained. This partnership to extend both the political and executive levels of government, focused on, but not limited to, the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster Departments. Whilst the BACSA Board members could be called upon to assist in this positioning, the BACSA CEO is expected to facilitate and enable such engagements.

Strengthening the partnership between Government and BACSA:

Maintain, expand and deepen the partnership between the business community and BACSA.

Sustainable funding support from business for BACSA:

Three year funding support for BACSA to be secured from the business sector. This requires that BACSA is seen to be a value adding vehicle in the interface with government, resulting in tangible impact on the capacity of government, and business, in dealing with crime.

BACSA Governance:

BACSA to be recognized as a highly effective, output orientated and accountable organization. The various structures, such as the Board and its various sub committees (of which there are six) are seen to be making a valuable contribution to the efforts of the organization.

Brand and Media management:

Effectively manage and promote the BACSA brand and engage with the media constructively.

Project delivery:

Ensure complete value add of BACSA initiatives to national crime fighting landscape. Effective delivery requires the close strategic and operatonal management of the core resources and capabilities of BACSA including access to exceptional problem identification, solution design, solution selling, project management systemic change management, business transformation and performance measurement.
