ADAMGROUP– TheHistoryThefamilyfirmofADAMJEELUKMAJEE&CO,wasestablishedin1883.AsthefamilygrewanddiversifiedtheADAMGROUPOFCOMPANIESwasfoundedbyourChairmanDr.SAGulamhusein.

The initial business of the Adam Group was supplying Tea chests, Panelsand Batons to tea estates in Sri Lanka. These components were importedfrom Malaysia. There were 10 employees at the start and this business wasconducted under Adamtex established in 1970

In 1972 Adam’s Expo was incorporated in a 1000sq ft office at No.57,Chatham Street, Colombo 01 with a staff strength of 20 with 3 telephonelines. Initial business was export of tea, coconut products and spices and alloverseas communication done via cable and telegram.

In 1973 Adametals was incorporated in our own premises at 279 Vauxhallstreet with 05 wire nail machines and 01 Barb wire manufacturing machine.Raw material was imported from South Africa.

In 1978 Adam Apparels was started at 26/2 Wardy road, Dehiwala about10km away from the capital of Sri Lanka with 35 sewing machines and 45employees to manufacture garments for export.

In 1980 Colombo hardware was incorporated (Presently calledAdammetal sales Center) to carry out sales of imported hardware items to thewholesale & retail market.

In 1982 Adam Gems was Incorporated with 02 gem cutting machines and 5employees. Initial operations were the import of rough diamonds from Indiawhich were then cut and polished and re exported to various markets.

In 1993 Spice of Life was Incorporated to process, pack and export SriLankan spices.

In 1993 Giorgio Morandi (Pvt) Ltd was incorporated with an Americancollaborator to manufacture high quality garments for export. This factory wassituated in the Central province of Sri Lanka and consisted of 550 employees.

In1995theAdamGroupboughtcontrollinginterestofoneoftheoldestpublicquotedtradingcompaniesinSriLanka,Ceylon&ForeignTrades(CFT)whichwasestablishedin1949andbecameapubliclyquotedcompanyin1978.Locatedona480perchwarehousingcomplexintheheartofColombo’scommercialhub.CFThasbeentradingforover50yearsandexportstocustomersinAsia,Australia,Europe,theMiddleEast,SouthandCentralAmerica,RussiaandtheUnitedStates.

In2000theAdamGroupboughtAdamjeeExtractionsPvtLtd.Astateoftheartsolventextractionplant(aoneofitskindinSriLanka)fortheproductionofvariousvegetableoils.

In2002NetworkCommunicationsPvtLtdwasincorporatedforthepurposesofVOIPterminationofnationalinboundvoicesservicesandoriginationofSrilankanvoiceservices,afterthegroupacquired1of32licensesissuedtooperateanexternalgatewayforinternationaltelecommunication.
