Research Group Profile

The history of scientific research in the area of technologies begins once with setting up in 1949 of a section of Tools, Devices and Apparatuses. Landmark moments in scientific research development were in 1953 and in 1964 when have been established the specialisation and Faculty of Machine Manufacturing Technologies, respectively. Within „Manufacturing Engineering” Department the research tradition goes on in the area of technologies. Relevant are the scientific achievements of professors Sauer L,. Secară Gh. and Roşca D. M in the area of cutting processes and tools, as well as professor’s Stănescu I. and Vasii-Roşculeţ S. ones in the area of manufacturing devices. Remarkable contributions in the area of manufacturing technologies had professors Drăghici G. and Ivan N. V. Professor Ivan N. V. added more features to scientific research by approaching in nineties new domains – CAD, CAPP, CAM and their integration. The prestige of the Effective Manufacturing Technologies and CAD/CAPP/CAM Systems group was recognized and strengthened by gaining numerous national and international research grants. These grants allowed developing a high performance research infrastructure. The research infrastructure of the group developed permanently, being added to it CNC machine-tools, data acquisition/distribution devices, high performance measurement equipment, and a modular set for devices building. Total investments in research infrastructure after 1990 overcome the amount of Lei 3 million. In 2013 the research group counts six PhD advisers, who coordinate thirteen PhD students.

R&D products, patents, use cases

1. Diţu V., DiaconuŞt. Combined drill. Patent #90 799/8.09.1986. The patent is a consequence of studying the thermocurrent at cutting process. The novelty is a drill having a cutting edge made of two different materials: HSS inside, and metal carbide outside. The length of cutting edge was optimized.

2. Stamate, V.M., Thermo-baro-polymerization inductive apparatus. Patent #RO126523 A2/2011, issued by

OSIM Bucureşti. The apparatus polymerizes composite materials in controlled temperature and pressure environment. The novelty of the apparatus consists of using a special way to warm the work liquid. The work-space and subsequently, the liquid warming are based on self-induction principle.

3. Stamate, V.M., Warming, melting, and modelling electric device. Patent#111888 C1/1998, issued by OSIMBucureşti. The device can be used in dental technique and in pasting parts on the electronic boards. Its, main characteristic feature is the ability to adjust the temperature of work head.

4. SanzVico, J., Stamate, V.M., Procédé et dispositif pour fabriquer des cigarettes par remplissage de tubes en papier avec du tabac. Patent request registration 10/01595 - 15/04/2010, 75 INPI-Paris 26

Completed and ongoing research projects at national and international level

1. Project CCSDetInfoCenterfor Economic Evaluations and Developments of Computer Aided Technologies. Project funded by World Bank and Romanian Govern, carried on between 1998 and 2002. Project manager: prof.dr.eng. Nicolae-Valentin IVAN; value: $150,000. The main objective of the project was reshaping the engineering high education in Romania, in the context of aligning to the European requirements. The output of the project was thought to be high performance educated graduators that ensure the competitiveness of the Romanian economy. Theresearch team:

Project CETOS Researches on the thermo current at turning the main Romanian steel marks with carbide inserts and identifying the main opportunities to apply it in practice.. GGrraanntt CNCSIS #33459/17.07.2002, CNCSIScode638. Within the project researches on the thermocurrent at turning were carried out. The main concluding was the way the output of the researches can be applied in production and in further researches on cutting processes. A database was created as well. The research team:

3. Project IMANInnovative Manufacturing Network. Project type: P-CD, MATNANTECH Grant #41/ 7.10.2005; The grant was performed in partnership by Technical University Cluj-Napoca (coordinator), Transilvania University of Braşov (P1) and Politehnica University Timişoara (P2) and had a total budget of Lei 1,420,000 (Lei 172,900 UTBv). The project has run between 2005 and 2008. The main objective of partner Transilvania University of Braşov (UTBv) was to create, develop, exploit, and disseminate a coherent and unitary program of scientific research and innovation in manufacturing, with wide application from industry to medicine. Project aims to establish a national network dedicated to innovative manufacturing. Particularly, partner Transilvania University of Braşov, focuses on applying the concept of constructive-technological entity in integration of CAD, CAPP, and CAM.
