What is glass corrosion?

Who is unfamiliar with clouded areas and spots on windows and external glazing. This is caused by strong alkalis such as lime water or cement deposits. Rainwater runs over concrete and alkaline water splashes back from the windowsill or runs directly onto the window pane. Elements of the glass come away and clouded areas and spots appear over time. These cannot be removed using ‚normal‘ cleaning agents. These are not ‚residues‘. Material is missing from the glass. Something has been washed away.

Previously:

• Such damage used to be treated using diluted hydrofluoric acid. However, it is extremely hazardous and is no longer normally used these days.

• Another solution involves the use of time-consuming polishing with diamond paste and expensive special equipment.
