National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET is the national level examination for admission to

MBBS & BDS courses. The NEET scorecard forms the basis for allotting about 54,000 medical

seats across the country.

NEET exam is a gateway for admissions into medical & dental UG courses offered by various

government and private medical colleges of the country. From the year 2016 onwards, AIPMT

exam has been replaced by NEET examination. All medical institutions consider NEET score for

providing admission in MBBS/BDS courses.

Ÿ The exam will comprise of 180 objective

type questions (four options with single

correct answer) from Physics, Chemistry

and Biology (Botany & Zoology) to be

answered on the specially designed

machine-gradable sheet using Ball Point

Pen provided at the test centre

Ÿ Each correct answer will be awarded 4

marks. Maximum marks are 720

NEET

Candidates seeking admission into technical

institutions like National Institute of

Technology (NIT), Indian Institute of

Technology (IIT) and reputed tech institutions

across the country have to appear for Joint

Entrance Examination (JEE).

JEE is constituted by two different

examinations – JEE Main and JEE Advanced.

The exams are of objective pattern. JEE

Advanced is regarded internationally as one of

the most challenging undergraduate

admission tests.

Other institutes like The Indian Institutes of

Science Education and Research (IISERs), Rajiv

Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology and

Indian Institute of Science also make use of

JEE to fuel their admission process.

JEE Main, which replaces AIEEE, is for

admission to the National Institute of

Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of

Information Technology (IIITs), and some other

colleges designated as "centrally funded

technical institutes" (CFTIs).

JEE Advanced, which replaces IIT JEE, is for

admission to the Indian Institutes of

Technology (IITs). Only the students selected in

JEE Mains are eligible for appearing in JEE

Advanced. It is used as the sole admission test

by the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

There are 31 NITs & 23 IITs taking admission

for JEE Main & JEE Advanced.

JOINT ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (JEE)

WHAT IS JEE?


Ÿ Candidates should have been born on or

after October 1, 1993. Five years relaxation

is given to SC, ST and PwD candidates, i.e.,

these candidates should have been born on

or after October 1, 1988

Ÿ A candidate can attempt JEE Main a

maximum of three times & JEE Advanced a

maximum of two times in consecutive years

Ÿ Candidate should have passed their Class

XII (or equivalent) exam by taking atleast

five subjects in 2016 or 2017

Ÿ Candidate who are appearing in their Class

XII (or equivalent) exam in 2018 (their

admission will be final only if they clear the

marks criteria)

Ÿ For appearing in JEE Advanced 2018,

Candidates should be among the top

2,24,000* (including all categories) in

Paper-1 of JEE (Main) 2018

Ÿ Date of Exam: 8th April 2018 (Pen and

Paper Based Exam) & 15th and 16th April

2018 (Computer Based Exam)

Ÿ JEE Main 2018 will be conducted for

admission to undergraduate engineering

courses

Ÿ The examination will be held through

online or offline mode. A candidate will opt

for either Pen and Paper Based or

Computer Based examination mode

Ÿ JEE Main Paper 1 will contain questions

from Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics

subjects

Ÿ It will contain a total of 90 objective type

questions. Weightage to all subjects are

given equal. Total 30 questions will be
