Strategies for Success in AccountingWe recommend enrolling in general education courses in the fields of communication, ethics, analytical reasoning and computer science. earn good grades, because gpas are very important and serve as an indicator of your competence and work ethic.

We recommend spring internships rather than summer internships. Join beta Alpha Psi, the honorary fraternity for accounting, finance and information professionals. learn to work well in teams and actively partici-pate in student organizations to develop leadership skills. communication skills are extremely important to be successful in this field.

What Makes Our Accounting Program UniqueWashburn’s business students consistently score in the 95th percentile on the Major field Test (mft) in accounting. This national, standardized exam is given to more than 600 u.S. business schools and reflects the high quality of our accounting program. Washburn’s faculty are also actively involved in connecting students to employers who need interns and/or full-time employees. What’s more, by taking an additional 26 hours of related coursework you will be eligible to sit for the cpa exam.

Declaring a Business MajorAfter you decide to pursue a major in business, your first step will be to complete a declaration of major online through the “Students” tab on the MyWashburn page at Washburn.edu or in the School of business office, 114 hc (henderson center). This is especially important if you wish to apply for a business scholarship. it’s also important for all b.b.a. students to be advised by a member of the Washburn School of business faculty or by an academic advisor in the School of business office.

once a student has completed at least 54 hours, the seven pre-admission business courses with a c or better and has a cumulative gpa of 2.0 or higher, he or she can apply for formal admission to the Washburn School of business.
